The problems and difficulties which the Shimerdas were going through were social and financial. When they first arrived to Nebraska they faced troubles because they could not communicate with other people there since they do not speak English. Another problem which they face is the issue of the money. Fuches tells Jim and his grandparents that he saw Mr. Shimerda hunting and wearing a coat which he made from the rabbit's skin. He also adds that the Shimerdas have just one coat and they wear it in turns:
The Shimerdas do not have enough money since they did not take into consideration the amount of money they will pay and lose on their way to Nebraska. But what makes it harder on Mr. Shimerda is the feeling of humiliation and weakness as
