Junichi came to the class quite confident in his skills to communicate. He was a keen communicator and a confident speaker from the onset. With practice, Junichi has improved in every aspect of his skills and ability. However, he was not responsive to various kinds of corrective feedback. This is possibly due to the lack of follow up work he did during the lesson. Most of his notes were directly written into his computer, and homework assignments were rarely completed on time. Compared with the group, Junichi showed little improvement in written communication or grammatical accuracy. His reading comprehension has improved, but his dictation has deteriorated. These negative points all added up to a poor communication result in the second half of the term. Junichi is a motivated communicator and positive influence on the class. He was usually first to answer with constructive comments, and was competent in directing questions during meetings, negotiations, and presentation Q&A time. However, over the second phase of the course, his communication ability improved which resulted in improved confidence, which compounded his learning ability. He now has a better balance of skills. His strength is in written communication; reading and writing. His focus on getting it right adversely affects his fluency, and consequently his speed and participation in discussions. Unfortunately for Kohei, he was absent during the meeting skills and presentation skills lessons, which has become evident in his poorer result in that area.
