Critical and Creative Thinking

...Thinking in Society Short Essay l and Creative Thinking in Society Short Essay A situation of public interest that comes to mind is legalizing marijuana. So many people thing that legalizing it is a great thing because of health reasons but what about what kids think about it. Some people feel that legalizing marijuana should have a more critical thought process to it. Some children feel that since marijuana is becoming legal in so many states “because of medical reasons,” they think that it is ok to smoke. Not only is it not ok it is illegal, in the way that they are using it. Children think that it is their free will (make unimpeded choices) to smoke marijuana because it is accepted by society. It is the children opinions (their thoughts not factual) that smoking marijuana is the “cool” thing to do. Truth – fact or belief that is accepted as true Knowledge – familiarity and awareness Three hindrances in critical thinking are: problem solving, making decisions that benefit everyone, not just you and good thinking strategies. A way to overcome some of these obstacles is to slow down and do not be so quick to respond. Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and think of the choices based on what the outcome would be as a whole. A message in advertising that some people struggle with is the lost weight advertising. It gives people the thought that if they take these pills or eat this certain meal that they will instantly lose weight which is not true. It is...

Healthful Eating

...Healthful Eating This essay is intended to convey information about healthful eating. This essay helps one determine the kind of diet one would want to follow. Finding recipes that support the diet one would wish to follow. Planning an exercise regimen that one will enjoy. Setting goals, and helpful hints that will help one reach one’s potential. The first step in starting to eat healthier is to determine what kind of diet one would want to follow, it needs to be one that one can stick to and includes favorite foods. The diet one chooses to follow needs to be well balanced and have a variety of foods so one does not get bored eating the same foods over and over. According to americanheart.org (2009) fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrients and fiber-and they are low in calories. Whole-grain foods are also rich in fiber and can be very filling which will make it easier for one to maintain a healthy weight. Try to eat fish twice a week “Choose lean cuts of meat, low fat dairy, and use fats sparingly. One can have some dessert occasionally; just do not have a large serving. Use herbs to add flavor to foods instead of salt. One also needs to determine how many calories one should consume each day to stay healthy but also that will allow one to reduce or maintain a proper weight. It is recommended that women consume 1500 calories a day and men consume 2000 calories a day, these amounts may vary; consult a doctor to know for sure what would be right for one’s...

Fad Diets

...following essay will help give you a better understanding of why fad diets are not the answer for becoming healthy. Most fad diets and healthy lifestyle changes are both based on reducing the number calories that you take in every day. Unlike healthy lifestyle changes fad diets usually recommend severely reducing the number of calories below the recommend daily amount. According to the Medical New Today website http://www.medicalnewstoday.com, the average adult male should consume approximately 2,500 calories a day to maintain his weight and 2,000 calories for an average adult female. These numbers can change depending on age, gender and the amount of physical activity a person performs daily. In the past I have gone on several fad diets that were asking you to reduce your calorie intake to as low as 600 calories a day, way below the recommended amount. Yes you will reduce your weight quickly, but you will also be losing muscle tone as well and as soon as you increase your calorie intake the weight will come back on. Some fad diets have you eliminate certain foods from your diets. For instance the South Beach diet wants you to eliminate certain fruits like pineapples, watermelon, and raisins because they are higher in sugar. On the Medifast Diet they are asking you to eat 5 of their Medifast products each day kind of like the slimfast diet. The cabbage soup diet is based on eating their cabbage soup every day and following their crazy 7 day meal plan. On day one you are to only...

A List of Good Argumentative Essay Topics About Health for College Students

...concerned about their health and ways to keep fit. You can tell by seeing how people act; they go the gym all the time, they eat less food and they might even take diet supplements to maintain a ‘healthy’ body. However, is that really what health is all about? Are people under some sort of misconception? When you are writing an argumentative essay in college, you should think of different topics related to health. It might be difficult to come up with some great topics, but here are a few to get you started: Should people take diet supplements as part of their diet? Diet supplements are supposed to be natural, but many manufacturers add artificial ingredients in it to enhance the effects of weight loss. However, this comes at the cost of the person’s health. Indeed, the person will lose more weight for sure, but his health will also deteriorate due to the ingredients. Do you think this is ethical? Should this be illegal? You have plenty of things to talk about in your essay! Is gym hurting or helping our body? People go to the gym all the time nowadays. Not that it’s bad, but are the effects really that useful? It is true that you are burning off more calories but that comes at the expense of your physical body as well. Your body is not meant to be working so hard and sooner or later, it will wear down. That’s going to take a toll on your body and it might not be ideal. What are your views? Express them in your essay. Should people stop taking fewer medicines and let our...

But the 21 century, the century of speed, no one has time to lose countless hours in the gym so we started looking for some help. We tried different chemicals but in the end we realized that the answer was still in Mother Nature. And so Raspberry Ketone was discovered. Fat a Feminist Isse

...Tiana Jackson Essay 2-Short Essay September 29, 2014 “Fat is a Feminist Issue” Obesity is an increasing epidemic in the United States, in fact an estimated fifty percent of women are overweight (page 448). Being fat is not just a feminist issue, most women do not have control over their weight gain or inability to be fit. To say fat is a feminist issue is sexist and bias. However the pressures placed on women in American society to maintain a certain imagine is increasing through everyday media. Therapist, publisher and author Susie Orbach wrote “Fat is a Feminist Issue” in 1978, one passage of the book Susie states “fat is a social disease, and fat is a feminist issue. Fat is not about lack of self-control or lack of willpower. Fat is about protection, sex nurturance, strength, boundaries, mothering, substance, assertion and rage. It is response to the inequality of the sexes. Fat expresses experiences of women today in ways that are seldom examined and even more seldom treated…..” (Page 449). Some may argue that obesity is a woman’s disease, I would say this is primarily true, obesity is a disease that affect men as well but in today’s society media plays a big role in our everyday lives. The things that are highly favored by majority can reflect our own lifestyles. However the pressure to look a certain way, and ...
