...signify the beginning of the end of one’s high school career and transition into college life/ adulthood. When I thought about what to put on my class ring I thought about what meant the most to me in high school. I also thought about classes and groups of interest that helped me get to where I was at that point in school. When it was my turn to create my ring I chose three main things that meant the most to me; the first being the cross in the center of my stone. Believing in God helped me make it through school. When I was transitioning from junior high to high school I felt scared because I did not know what to expect. Coming from a small school into a huge high school was very over whelming I had not been in a school with so many people; I didn’t know and I did not know how to open a locker. Mid-way into my junior year my Grandpa was diagnosed with cancer and my grades began to drop tremendously. I ended up failing chemistry and had to take it again in credit recovery. By the grace of God, I passed chemistry with a C. Unfortunately my Grandpa lost his battle with cancer and passed away two months into my senior year. It took a lot of faith and a lot of prayer just to get me though the rest of my senior year. I just thank God that with him, I pulled though it all and I graduated. The second thing I chose is a symbol for friendship. I didn’t think I would have ever met so many people my age from my community if I had...

...202 August 31, 2014 The first event that I choose was graduating high school. The reason I choose this event and experience is because no one in my family had ever graduated high school. My mother, father, nor my brother ever got a high school education. Although, my mother and father never married I can remember them both saying that they didn’t finish high school. My father got a GED but my mother still to this day doesn’t have either a high school diploma or GED. My brother just quit school at the age of 17 and took to the streets. So this was very important ordeal for me. I can also remember other family members say that I wasn’t going to graduate high school or I would come up pregnant while in high school because my circumstances was different than everyone in the family. I proved them all wrong and graduated high school without becoming pregnant and most of the one’s that was downing me their kids ended up pregnant in high school and didn’t graduate high school. The second experience I choose from my list was joining the Army when I graduated high school. The reason I choose this experience was because after I graduated high school I felt like I still had something that I had to prove to others. Just because my surroundings and environment was different from others doesn’t mean that I was going to succumb to my environment or surroundings. While in the Army I learned discipline, respect and courage. I got to see many places that some people will never...

...My High School Experience for College High School experiences are one of the most wonderful experiences that a person can have in their childhood. I did so many things while I was in high school that I can imagine myself doing them now as a grown man. In high school classes are not as hard as in college because the teachers do not treat you like and adult and they take things easier than a professor in college. For me high school was a great experience because I had the chance to make friend because it was the time when I arrive to this country. Also, I was a different person back then because my mind was thinking as a child, which it is not now. Classes in high school made me feel comfortable I think that was because I could do whatever I wanted, but when I put all those little things together I recognize that it did help me to get ready for college. First of all, when I was in high school and the teacher specifically my English teacher was going to teach a new subject she used to say “kids pay attention to this subject because it is important for classes in college.” Her class helped me in different ways because when I was presented to the FCAT writing I was able to get a 4.5 on my paper I just applied everything I was taught in her class. Material is almost the same the difference is how it is presented. Right now my English professor is teaching how pronouns work. I remember some details from high school and I recognize that is the same thing, but I have found some problems...

...Moving on to high school was mind blowing. Coming to high school as a freshman was tough. When I was in the eighth grade, I thought it would be simple an easy but I was wrong. Throughout my freshman year I started to catch on to how high school was different from middle school. Even though I got used to the flow, of high school I never would have thought that high school would be complicated, frustrating but motivating. Throughout my ninth grade year was very challenging and I became frustrated. My ninth grade year was frustrating when I went into my class and was told about everything that we were going to go over. I had no clue of what my teacher had said because I never learned any of it. I got even more frustrated when they gave us and...

...high school and college It is helpful to have an education in today's society especially if you want to be successful. High school and college work hand and in helping students obtain an education. School can differ in a variety of ways such as time, finances, and campus size. High school was mandatory, and I did not like attending! Dropping out was not an option, and I was so happy when I when I graduated. Therefore, my preference is college because it is a choice I made for myself. First, I prefer college because I can set my own schedule. So, when I schedule my college courses, I have more available time and high school was set. Now, that I am enrolled in college, I can go in the evening time. In contrast to high school, I could only go in the morning. I college I have to study more, but in high school, I barely studied. Next, in college can be expensive, but I did not have to pay for my classes and books when in high school. Now, in college I have to pay for all my classes and books. Transportation was free in high school, because I rode the bus. Yet, in college I have to drive my car and pay for gas and maintenance of my vehicle. Finally, the difference between high school and college is campus size. In high school I could walk to all my classes because they were closer together. As for for college, my classes are spread throughout the campus, so I have to drive to my classes. The high school I went to did not have a lot of parking and the spots were designated for...

...In this paper, I want to focus on Immigrant Students in Secondary Schools. As a previous high school immigrant when I first arrived in United States, I have experience numerous difficulties in school that I would never forget. In addition, I believe immigrant students of secondary school can face major difficulties in learning English and succeeding in school. Since these students do not have a lot of time than elementary students to learn English, and they have to pass several test that require English skill such as the ACT and SAT. Above all, most secondary school texts and materials require a sufficient English reading ability to understand, which will even make learning experience becoming even tougher for high school immigrant. Before going into detail, lets take a look at the statistics of the United States’ immigration in the past few decades. According to U.S Bureau of the Census 1997a statistic, over a million immigrants, legal and illegal, entering the United States each year. And since the passage of the Immigration Act of 1965, which eliminated national origin quotas. Europe is no longer the main sources of newcomers to the United States but instead of Asia and Latin America. The largest groups come from Mexico, China, Cuba, and Vietnam. In the fall of 1997, 9 million (about one in five) elementary and secondary school students had a foreign born parents. With over 90% of recent immigrants coming from non English speaking countries, schools are increasingly...

...I received high school education from three institutes: firstly a traditional Chinese high school, then an international school in China, and finally an American public high school. The three systems are very characteristic in their own ways. Traditional Chinese high schools seek excellence – a system that mold every teenager into the exact perfect figure of an “A student.” International schools encourage individuality, where students create their own study routine with minimum school interventions. American high schools aspire for balance, where students follow a well-rounded class schedule that covers everything from science to physical educations. During the four years of high school career, it took me sufficient amount of efforts in transferring...

...From middle school to high school a lot of people experience immense changes in themselves. For me transitioning into high school was one of the biggest changes I have ever experienced. At first, this change was scary but once I realized the positive impact it would have on me personally, I was more open to the ideas. This change gave me many new skills and experiences that I could never have experienced in middle school. My move from middle school to high school has changed my personality, interests, and standards for academics. P1: Being placed in a new unfamiliar environment has made me more social and has improved my attitude towards life. My middle school years were the worst years of my life. This had to do with the fact that I switched...

...JC WA#4 Draft #4 High School Experience The teenage years are some of the most important stages in everyone’s life because that’s when we all start a new chapter in our lives, which is difficult and very interesting at the same time. The teen years are exciting because that’s when we begin to somehow take control of our lives by making our own decisions and making our own choices about what we’d like to do or how we want things to be according to where we are, and where we want to go in the future. When we enter the teenage years and we start going to high school, we feel more independent and want to do things our way, like changing the way we dress, act, hang out with friends, and the way we communicate with our family. I remember my teen years in high school, and how much fun I had, the things I learned, and how much I changed. I went to Hayward High, high school in Hayward California, a nice school in the Hayward hills (APP). I am proud to say that I loved being going to this high school because it has great teachers and helpful staff. My high school experience was, and forever will be a very exiting and magnificent stage in my life that I will never forget. One great thing that happened to me was being able to meet my best friend, Refugio. When I started going to high school, I didn’t know anyone because I went to a different high school from the rest of my middle school friends, so I was totally alone on the first day at the new school. I remember when I went...

It was interesting to go back to school and see all the things that have changed sense I was back, but it was more interesting to enter into an environment that for so many years was my place to learn not as a student. Taking myself out of the role as a student and into the role of a professional was much easier in grade school than it was in high school, but over all I really enjoyed my experience and gathered lots of information about what is affective in a classroom setting. The Students In a classroom setting how students interact and learn are big...

The first thing I adopt was the time because my classes star in the afternoon I don’t use to go to school in the afternoon or at night. When I was in high school you wake up early to go to school and you stay at the school for almost the hold day and even after school if you have after school activities, now you in college were everything if different, you don’t have to stay at school for the hold day, your classes it at a certain time and you have time between classes to whatever you want. It takes mea insufficient days to get use to the time because I remember one day I wake up I was concerned thinking that I miss my...

...In 2011-2012 the graduation rate from high school in the U.S. is 80%. Somethings I was told about high school was Freshman Friday, which is where seniors would push Freshman into lockers. In reality Freshman Friday is a myth. Another thing I was told that the teachers are mean and strict. When in reality they are super nice and good people. I wish I had known more truths when I came to the high school. There are a few actions 8th graders should take when they come to the high school in order to have a positive experience. First, students should be mature. Once someone comes to the high school they should act more their age. For example if students from the middle school came here and are screaming and running around, no one will try talk...

I am in high school going on a senior at Wichita East High School. I have many math classes and I still hate math. When I was a little boy, I was in elementary school so math was easy. ...Ridge Middle School. He was found eligible for special education services in September 2008 as a student with Other Health Impairment (OHI) and a secondary label of an emotional disability (ED). When student J was in his late elementary school years he experienced inability to interact with his peers and maintain social relationships, and was observed shutting down and displaying self-destructive behaviors. There were interventions and accommodations implemented in elementary school including a behavioral plan, which was revised each year he was in middle school, based on what his interests were which were used as the motivators and rewards he would receive for displaying appropriate behavior and completing work. Student J became academically successful and was showing great progress at the end of seventh grade. During his 8th grade year he went through the reevaluation process and was found continued eligible under the same primary and secondary labels. The areas of concern for Student J were identified as problems with using appropriate language, and the same behaviors of shutting down when he was experiencing frustration. This cased a lack of progress in content subject areas during his eighth grade year. Student J receives special education services through the inclusion settings in all core content areas. ACADEMIC PERORMANCE: Student J’s academic performance has showed adequate growth in terms of his present level of performance since the first time he was identified...
