Whose Fault is it Anyway?
Death is an element of life. Somewhere on the planet, someone just died. There is always a reason for death: a carcrash, a sickness, murder, etc. In Ray Bradbury’s short story, “The Veldt”, the parents of the two children, George and Lydia Hadley, die. It is known that they are slaughtered by lions but does not say if it was an accident or not. The fault lies on the parents because they did not involve themselves in their children’s lives enough. They let the Happy Life Home raise their children and let their children do whatever they wish. The bad parenting in the story, is the reason for the characters’ violent deaths.
Letting their Happy Life Home raise the children, leads to George and Lydia Hadley’s deaths. When George and Lydia are talking about the house, Lydia states that the “house is wife and mother now, and nursemaid. Can I compete with and African Veldt? Can I bathe and scrub the children as efficiently or quickly as the automatic scrub bath can?” (Bradbury 78). She is admitting that her children have been raised mostly by the Happy Life home and not by their mother. George has been working since the time period is the story takes place in the 1950s. The parents let their house raise their children which, ultimately led to their deaths.
Additionally, the children are not disciplined or punished by the parents, which leads to the parents’ deaths. When George Hadley warns his son, Peter, that he needs to behave or the house will be turned off Peter tries to stop him saying “would I have to tie my own shoes instead of letting the shoe tier do it? And brush my teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath?”( Bradbury 82). Peter is not used to being punished and tries to fight it to keep his normal freedom. The Hadleys do not punish their children often, leaving their children terrified to be punished. The scarce warning of being

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein: Who Was The Real Monster?

...How you may ask? The creature did indeed kill William and then plant the locket on Justine. That wouldn’t have happened if Victor didn’t create the creature with his unhealthy obsession of making life, though. Then, when Justine had her trial, Victor could have spoken up then and said it was his fault. He didn't though because he thought they were going to call him a madman, which they probably would have, but he didn't have to say the creature did it. He could've taken responsibility and said he did it himself. If he did that, he wouldn't even have to deal with the guilt because he would be executed sooner or later anyway. Poor Justine had to deal with the consequences of Victor’s actions. If Victor had actually took a moment and thought about the long term consequences, he might not have left the creature. I think the thing that let's you know that Victor knows the creature is the Devil, is that Victor hasn't even told Henry or Elizabeth about it. The creature isn't at fault because I'm sure anybody who's refused love and affection would not turn out to be a good person. However, the creature did commit the murders, but it wasn't his fault. He didn't have anybody to tell him it was wrong. He learned from all the hate he...

Who's Responsible For The Tragedy Of Romeo And Juliet

...Who’s Responsible for the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? We all know Shakespeare wrote it, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. Who is really responsible (play wise) for all of the hardships Romeo and Juliet had to face? I’d say it’s Romeo who’s to blame. He should’ve thought about what a relationship with a Capulet might lead to. In the play, it does state “Being held a foe, he may not have access/To breathe such vows as lovers use to swear,” (Shakespeare, 401). If the solution of avoiding her altogether truly wasn’t an option, he could’ve at least avoided killing himself. If he had really cared for Juliet, he would have stayed alive for her. He would’ve lived on to tell of her beauty and magnificence. More depth on my first...

Past Life

...university, I stayed in an old building, the NARRA Residence Hall. It's an exclusive dormitory for male students of UP Diliman. Anyways, I was with Leo yesterday and he told me that he will go to UP Diliman to bring something for Kiko. Because of not having been there for a long time, I decided to join him and went there from Las Pinas. It was really a tiring ride from the almost southernmost part of Manila to the northernmost part of the region. Leo and I were able to get a cab from Las Pinas and it cost me a lot for the fare... Well, we arrived in UP Diliman at around 8:30 in the evening. We waited for Kiko at Philcoa Jollibee Branch. Just after 15 minutes, I guess, we saw Kiko outside waiving at us with Anton. I felt happy seeing them again after a long time. They told me that Narra is having their OPEN HOUSE that night. Leo told me that he informed me about it but I cant really remember him telling me that. Anyways, I felt a bit bad because I didnt bring my camera with me...and I was only holding my very cheap Nokia 1110i and left my phone camera in my condo. So it was a little frustrating though...I kept on blaming Leo and Leo kept on telling me that he infomed me about it. I guess it was my fault...I'm so damn deaf! Moving on...Leo, Kiko, Anton and I went to a nearby Jeepney Station from Philcoa. While walking towards the station, we saw Christian who's a former dormmate of ours too. I think Kiko informed him about the activity in Narra so he decided to come too. So we all went...

How Does Holden Use Flashback In The Crucible

...time. He certainly was a bore about that. ‘About you,’ I said ‘About me for chrissake?’ ‘Yeah i was defending your goddam honor’” (54). Holden was lying about the fight being about Ackley. Holden felt the need to lie to Ackley when it was completely unnecessary. This reveals Holden’s character because lying became Holden’s second nature of communicating and he doesn’t even realize when he is doing it. It's not that Ackley deserved to be lied to, Holden just felt the need to do it anyways. Along with Holden’s lying, Salinger also uses hyperbole while talking to a women he just met about a boy who went to school with Holden. In the text it says, “Then i start shooting the old crap around a little bit… I nodded ‘That's Ernie. He wouldn't. That's the one fault with him- he's too shy and modest’” (62-64). Holden created a front with a random stranger like he had to prove something while talking to her. Instead of telling the woman the truth about her son, he exaggerated and said he was an amazing person who’s, “‘One of the most popular boys at Pencey’” (63). He got a kick out of the lady’s reaction and decided to roll with...

Personal Narrative: Working At Coney Island

...It has a total of 24 horses and two, two rowed benches. Isn't that enough? Well apparently not. Everyone just loves to compare ours to the one in Kings Island, but like if that one is so much better, you can walk past the games take the first left and then a right; it will lead you right to our parking lot. But I mean Coney is like half the price of kings, so who's really winning? You save money and Coneys fries are never cold, just saying. The amount of times children say “Wait don't start the ride, my friend is coming” and then I wait forever for no one because they got on a different ride is probably over 100 by now. Also kids love to help themselves to opening the gate when i'm doing the final check and circling around to make sure everyone is seated safely. They are just so independent and love to not even help themselves, but also let ten others kids on the ride. Kids are just so selfless these days! I always feel bad when the 8 left over kids don't have a horse to ride on. It was totally my fault that there's not enough horses. When the rides begins to operate, the kids love to show their parents their super cool tricks! One common one is to actually reach to the top of the roof and twist the light bulbs so they don't light up. It really helps the electricity bill go down! Okay as I said before, our fries are the best fries you can get for only two dollars I mean what a bargain! But sadly you cannot eat...

Cheating

...been looked down upon in society, but it still thrives in the classrooms of schools and universities. It doesn't seem to matter whether it is right or wrong, just as long as it gets you that A you were looking for. Cheating has grown over the past few years and the question is why? Who's to blame? I know cheating occurs in Bacon Academy. I'll even be so honest to admit that I have participated in cheating once or twice in my high school career. Even so, I know it's not okay; and there are serious punishments if you are caught: there will be a zero on the assignment, and a suspension if you plagiarize. Ouch, cheating definitely doesn't sound worth the risk. So why do we do it? Cheating is done for multiple reasons. Sometimes it's done just to help out a friend. Your neighbor asks about a question during a test and you reply with the answer just to be courteous, nothing more than that. There's no deeper reason, other than maybe one day your neighbor will be able to return the favor. Another form of cheating is the "!%#&, I forgot to study for this test, but the smartest person in the room is sitting right next to me" reason. Some people figure there's no harm because they're going to do poorly anyway. But some people cheat because they're lazy or just don't care. All of these reasons don't make it okay to cheat, and its recurrence in school is an issue. Bacon has all types of cheating, and it can be blamed individually on the teachers, the students themselves, or even on cheating...

Color of Fear Anlaysis

...Jessica J. Ordonez CSLG – 6145 Dr. Ceballos Color of Fear Analysis Paper Question #1 The 3 major themes that are highlighted in David’s utterances are the following: 1. White people are seemingly unaware of their White privilege and the fact that they are part of a group. Throughout the video David clearly expresses that he does not feel that being white makes him any special. He finds the topic of racism “extremely exciting” because he never really understood why “they” had to cause struggle and strife and why “they” couldn’t feel happy. ------------------------------------------------- And when the subject of racism was mentioned to me I found it extremely exciting because I grew up in this area with friends of all races and we would read in the news - see on the television of racial struggles in other areas and could not comprehend how that could be - why they had to cause struggle and strife for each other. Why couldn’t they be just like at home, happy and productive together? (Transcript) David’s comments clearly demonstrate how clueless he is about his own White privilege. In the beginning of his dialogue David explains that he has never felt that he was “in control” of anything. Yet, in the same statement he goes on to explain how he has owned vineyards and orchards that employed several minorities. David’s own words appear to be oblivious to him. It appears that he is speaking without even listening to himself. In one sentence he states...

There was nothing else he could do except cry so he just stared at the wall all night. Chapter 3 By the time it was morning his eyes were a little red and he had bags under his eyes. The Jenkinsons (one of his neighbors) came back later on that day. He told them what happened. They called the police. They asked Sage some questions but all he did was nod. Even if he wanted to speak he just couldn’t. As they were taking away the bodies he thought, “ Are they really gone?” It was a traumatising moment for him. Just as tears started coming out of his eyes he wiped them. He had to stay brave. What was going to happen to him? Who’s going to take care of him? These questions never came across his mind.
