...Why I Decided to Return Back To School 6/19/14 Kathy Davis Professor Nancy Segovia Returning back to school was a very natural decision for me. It seemed to be the next logical step in my personal and careers goals. My ultimate goal is to be healthy and happy and be a good role model for my family members. I am more mature with my decision to return back to school now. The initial thought I had about returning back to school was that of apprehension due to the fact that I struggled a great deal throughout junior and high schools and had a false belief for years that I would not be successful if I attempted to go to college. I let my twenties, thirties, and my forties pass me bye with this belief firmly in me in my thinking and there was no one or anything to convince me of anything else, because I allowed my fear of failure to rule me all these year. I wanted to do something that was really going to have a lasting impact to someone’s life. Immediately thought about my children, letting them know it’s never too late to get a degree from any college. Going back to school can be a tough decision but being positive and having confidence can lead to success. Now that I am stable in life than I was when I finished or even years ago when I was considering going to school again I am more mature with why I decided to return back to the decisions I made forward toward...

...Returning To School Sheena Alexander ENG 121 Jennifer Williams 03/10/13 Returning To School With the current requirements for certain jobs available and the increase in job losses I have decided to return to school to obtain my degree and allow myself a higher chance at landing the job that I really want. My name is Sheena Alexander and I am 29 years old with a husband and two beautiful children. If you had asked me 7-10 years ago if I had any intentions on returning to school I would have said I don’t know or maybe may be not. It was an idea that I played around with a lot in my head. It was back in February of 2009 when I finally made the decision that it was best for me to return to school and obtain a degree. I have been working since I was 16 years of age and with all the jobs and experience that I have under my belt I have never seemed to be fulfilled with any of my pass jobs. I noticed how some of my co workers would get better opportunities within the company before I did simply because they had a degree. I would often wonder if I went back to school and got my degree that could be me but I just could not fathom the thought of sitting in a classroom or just going back to school. I remember working for a company called Orkin Pest Control and anytime they would post management, leadership, or trainer positions I would get so excited at the chance to apply. After being with the company two years I always figured that it would be easy for me to...

How many people do you know that have went to college and can honestly say that they are still working in general to graduate? Personally, there are not many people that I know who have graduated from a college which is why we see most people going back to school after so many years. There can be many reasons why a person does not finish school the first time around. May it be because of money issues, their interest were elsewhere at the time, a change in career directed their focus elsewhere, but whatever that may be it happens more than we would like to think. I just so happen to fall into this category of people going back to school after I had been once before but never finished. Throughout this essay I will inform readers on why I am returning back to school, my purpose behind it all, obstacles that have gotten in my way because I am returning and my ambitions that drove me to even consider going back to school. There are many reasons that I am going back to school. One main reason that I am going back to school is because I needed to further my education in order to receive an Associate’s degree in early childhood development. By pursuing to earn this degree I will be that much closer in achieving my long term goal of becoming a day care owner. When I complete this long term goal I will be able to give back to my community where the people in the community...

Or could it be the fact that I had a hard time when it came to graduating from high school and maybe I’m here to prove my family wrong. Maybe it my kids and wanting a better life for them then I had for myself. Or it could be the fact that I just want to be here. There are many reasons why I should be here. Returning to school was something that took a while for me to decide to do. Mainly because I said that after all I went through to leave high school that I wasn’t going back to school. I had to do night school, summer school, American school that’s where they mail you the work and you mail it back. And even went back to do a half semester the following year. So once I went through all that I said I was done with school. I was happy I did it, but it was all just a little much to be going through for a simple piece of paper. But after years of doing nothing and having a child I knew that I wanted to be something if not for me for her. Growing up I was looking for a role model and for some reason I just couldn’t find it. And then it felt like no time ever seem to be the right time and there was always a reason to put it off until the next time. Then having another child just made me come up with every other reason why I should do it...

...Why BSN? Returning back to school to complete a BSN is often the last thing many nurses would consider. Why would anyone want to do this? How do I come up with the money? Who will take care of my family? How do I manage with my kids? These are few of many questions what will raise when thinking about going back to school. There are three main reasons why I choose to go back to school to obtain my bachelor of science in nursing. For me it has never been a question not to continue advancing my education. When I finished my ADN (associates degree in nursing) I always dreamt about one day getting my bachelors degree and I have never given up on this goal. There are many reasons why I want to complete my degree. First and the fastest approaching reason is to secure my job and give myself option to practice in different states. Second is being able to continue advancing my education along with evolving myself. Job security is very important to me. In some hospitals it is already a requirement to have a BSN in order to get hired. When I got my job, I signed a letter that I will get my degree within five years of employment. Also having completed the BSN it gives me greater job mobility, increased salary and more job opportunities. It is a stepping stone closer to NP (nurse practitioner) and a future requirement to improve healthcare quality. I have always enjoyed learning new things. I feel that I am missing out if I am not taking a class or reading up on unfamiliar subjects...

...Creating a Returning Student Concierge position would be beneficial for Chattahoochee Technical College Angela C. Reisen SNHU HEA 520 Abstract Chattahoochee Technical College (CTC) would benefit from having a Returning Student Concierge in several different ways. A Returning Student Concierge “is the single-point of contact at a college or university who helps returning adult students navigate the application, enrollment, and registration processes and overcome barriers to college success” (Education, 2010). Through my research, the amount of material I found on this subject was limited, but what I did find has shown me this position is well needed at CTC. Being that I work with current students on a daily basis I feel this is what our college needs to keep our retention rate up for the returning population of our student body. After reading my point of view, I hope you will be persuaded to believe in the importance of this position as well. I am looking forward to the knowledge I will gain and the ability to implement that knowledge into my everyday life. In the past year, I have been searching for advancement opportunities with my current employer. I have found that the majority of available positions that I am interested in require a degree. Although not all open positions that I’ve applied for have required a degree, a significant number of the applicants had already obtained their degrees, and those were the individuals who were selected for employment. I have come to a point in my life where I realize that in order for me to get the career I want, I will need to obtain my degree. Although my primary reason for returning to school to continue my education is for employment opportunities, being a positive role model and influence for my daughter is equally important. Each day I strive to make decisions that will have a positive impact on my life, as well as hers. I stress the importance and value of education to her constantly. ...Why I decided to go back to school I would honestly have to say that my decision of going back to school has to be the most adult decision I have made. So many pros and cons were involved in this decision. Although going back to school can certainly be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, it is not a decision that I could make selfishly. A solid support structure is one of the keys to seceding in this journey. I needed to know that my fiance was willing and able to support me in the decision I made. I also needed my family’s support to know that the decision I made was the right one. A huge advantage of returning to school at an older age is that I will appreciate learning in a way that was not possible before. This life experience will give me a perspective of what life is really about. I fell like this time around I will enjoy learning and my grades will be reflective of this. I needed to complete what I set out to do when I was younger. That is why I decided to finish school and actually finish something I have started. My parents also had a big part in my decision. I know that they worked really hard for us to go to school. I know that they will be very proud to see any of us finish school and show for it. Another big denominator in my decision was how now a days you are only worth anything if you have a degree. My decision was made because I want to make something out of myself, and I know that I am capable of doing it. I don’t want to have a regular...
