Setting goals is the foundation of providing a clear vision for what you are trying to achieve. Our goals are desires of how we fulfill our purpose is in this world. Having success in achieving our goals requires us to bring our dreams and ambitions to life. Getting my bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies is one of my goals, followed by my second goal, of being successful in the field of my degree. At this moment of time, I am not certain as to how God will use my passions to impact this world, but I am confident he will guide me through this journey. Successfully pursuing my academic education at Colorado Christian University is my third goal, but the first step in fulfilling my dream. Even though achieving goals can be difficult, having passion, faith, and dedication is enough motivation to overcome any obstacle. …show more content…
These obstacles have the ability to redirect my focus and cause distraction, but with a positive mind set I am able to defeat the challenges with confidence. A difficult setback I often have to confront is balancing my time between school, family, and other commitments. It can draw concern at times as to whether I am giving proper attention to a specific area of my life. This may be irreconcilable for some, but for me, it is motivation to persevere through the stumbling block. James 1:12 states, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” (English Standard Version) Accepting these challenges as a slight interruption in my plans, is enough encouragement to continue to overlook the circumstances. These tests are opportunities for me to embrace my challenges and experience

Christian Faith Research Paper

...Before attending college here at Seattle University, I never necessarily thought that I would be interested in learning about religions other than my own. Throughout my life I was raised to follow the Christian faith. Everything that pertained to my life revolved around my faith. Although I do not regret being born and raised in a Christian home, some occasions have risen where I felt a sense of being “forced” into the religion. This caused myself to ultimately grow a disconnection from my faith. Coming to Seattle University with a sense of disconnection from my religion in actuality provided me the motivation and inspiration to possibly learn about different religions in order to compare and contrast their views from my personal ones, which...

Famous Thinkers

...Famous Thinkers While scanning the articles of the all of the famous thinkers in the electronic reserve, I picked the two that I felt were most similar. Once I started looking at the choices we had to choose from, I told myself that I was not going to do the stereotypical thing and go with Dr. Martin Luther King. Even though I knew he was a famous thinker even before looking at the list, I chose not use his articles. On the other hand, I was disappointed that there were no articles pertaining to President Barack Obama. Knowing that he won a Nobel Peace Prize just for his ideas alone, I thought that he would be among this list. The first article that caught my attention was, “Why I am Not a Christian”, by B. Russell. The next article I chose was, “Not a Minute to Hate”, by Cornell West. Bertrand Arthur William Russell was born in 1872. He was not brought up in the traditional education forum, instead, Bertrand Russell was taught by tutors and governesses. Being taught by tutors and governesses allowed him to gain knowledge of French and German, perfectly. Bertrand Russell was very well versed in politics and philosophy. He had a very outspoken set of morals and during the years, these morals landed him in prison as he gave lectures around the country. In 1927, Russell opened a school for children, as he continued to give lectures around the country. He had over 25 principal publications published beginning in 1896. Russell also received the Nobel Peace...

Personal Narrative: Living In Grand Rapids

...resources?” (Guy et al., 2015). Living in Grand Rapids comes with its pros and cons. I have been surrounded by believers my entire life in an area where i can profess my faith without worry. I think there will be a big shock for me after I burst out of the GR bubble and into the world of finances and the tough decisions that go along with that. I have heard countless stories of people struggling to continue their faith and even lose their faith after they leave high school and their parents. I have always thought to myself, “Is that going to be me?”. I have taken a lot of time to think through the different situations that will...

CBU Personal Statement

...CBU Personal Statement When I was around 12 years old, I found my strength and will in Jesus Christ. After being bullied, for being weird and overweight, for a majority of my grade school life (ages 7-15), in 7th grade, I overheard a conversation taking place between a girl I had once known, And a kid that was also going through tough situations. He was also being bullied as I was. She was telling him how Jesus Christ our lord and savior loves him very much and how he has a place for him in the kingdom of heaven. The more she talked about the endless love God gives us, and how she gives him love in return, the more I started to be intrigued by the topic. A while later I had asked her to tell me about her religion. She told me she was Christian....

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Tyler Blalock Liberty University Online The Romans Road Summary of Method – The Romans Road is a method of evangelism and is considered an intellectual method. It is a plan of salvation that utilizes various verses derived from the book of Romans. These verses are often memorized and used by evangelists to form a cohesive explanation of the need of salvation. Advantages of Using This Method – There are several advantages to the Romans Road method. One is that it is an easy way to explain and share the Gospel. These various verses, when put together, depict a clear and easy presentation. Another advantage is that it very much Biblically based. In explaining salvation, it is literally using Scripture in sharing the faith. Disadvantages of Using This Method – One disadvantage is the fact that all of the sources in this method are Scripture. While this is a great thing in reality, for a non-Christian who does not assume the Bible to be God’s word, it can come across as less credible from his/her perspective. The Romans Road method is a path to salvation and clearly uses Scripture as support and sources. This method has the potential of leading into a discussion on the credibility of the Bible, which can become off topic in leading someone to Christ. In other words, for a non-believer who wants to refute the word of God, it can potentially become a distraction from the discussion of salvation. Silence by Jd Shuduku

...Dr. Chan Thrs 231 Jannie Or Paper1 I disagree that the best way to study religion is learning from a page from the World Almanac. The information is not accurate and not adequate when comparing the world non-Christian on a few paragraph. First, Among all those ambiguous religion questions, one of them is very difficult to answer- who is the founder of the religion? According to the informative paper: "Founder of Hinduism--The Aryan invaders" which actually in the modern history people consider that there is no single founder. However, the religion is originally established by God Himself (dharman tu sakshad bhagavat pranitam) which claimed by the ancient scriptures of India; as well, "Islam's founder is Muhammad" who is known as rasul Allah, or God's Messenger to the Arabs, and to all of humanity. In my opinion, it is very difficult to specified the founder of religion into a particular person. The sacred text is difficult to conclude in some religion. For example, Buddhism's "sacred text is the Tripitaka" however, Buddhism's sacred text might include not only The Tripitaka, the Mahayana Sutras, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. I need to think the reason why only list The Tripitaka as Buddhism's sacred text might be it is because The Tripitaka is the most important one. Another problem is how to classified the most influential sacred text, the information is not very precisely stated. For example, the sacred text of Hinduism can...

...Response Paper H. J. McCloskey Article Shawna Upchurch Liberty University Summer 2015 PHIL 201-D18 H.J. McCloskey had written an article called On Being an Atheist that was publish on February, 1968. In this article he speaks about if God is real. Even though we cannot see God in person does that mean he is not real? There are some that does not have a belief in God even those there is no proof stating there is not a God. This does not mean that one should not listen to others then they try to tell you that there is not a God. But the best thing to do is listen to them and see what proof that they can show to state as to why they think that way. Then there are some that believes that there is a God but does not believe in all that is said that he had done. McCloskey stated in page 62 that, “Philosopher colleagues attribute to much importance to the role of the proofs of the existence of God as a basis for religious belief, that most theists does not come to believe in God as a result of reflecting on the proofs, but come to religion as a result of other reasons and factors.” (McCloskey, 1968) McCloskey used three arguments to support his claims; these three arguments are cosmological argument, teleological argument, and Argument from design. McCloskey had went on speaking about the cosmological argument and about the universe. McCloskey was more into the idea of a big bang. This can be broken down into three ideas from Evans and Manis on their non-temporal form of cosmological...

The way we see and think about life, death, education, faith, world, money, morals, values, and every other aspect of life. There are many things that influence a person’s worldview. Our culture and religion are major influences on how we view life. When we think about life in very many questions come to mind. Some of us tend to ask things like who are we and how did we get here? How should we live? Why are we here? What happens when we die? Is there life after this? The answers to those questions will vary depending on the type of worldview you hold at that point in time. Integrity

...Student Integrity For one of my classes, I have found a website that provides free flashcards with a question or term on the front and when you click the card, the answers are on the back. I have been using this site since I started my courses for studying purposes. One week, I could not find the right information for that particular module on the website. Hoping to find a different study method, I typed in my course name, the week and the topic into Google’s search engine. When I hit the search button, I was actually quite surprised at what came up. Right there in front of me, I saw numerous websites with the actual quiz and quiz answers; some you had to pay for but some were free. I thought to myself, it is not a forum or a summary, its simply true or false answers; how would someone know if I cheated? I know what you are thinking, and no, I did not look at the quiz. This goes to show how easy it is to cheat, I was not trying to cheat but the opportunity, literally, popped up in front of me. Technology in our generation is getting so complex, so fast that I can’t even keep up with it. In this generation, it is so easy for students to fall victim to plagiarism in the simplicity of technology, but in some results, technology has also made it easier to avoid the incident and help professors catch it after being done. In “Instructing Student’s in Academic Integrity” they discuss why and how students cheat, methods they use in attempt to control plagiarism and the results from...

Evan 101 Testimony Paper

...Alexis Chapman EVAN 101-D06 July 13, 2015 My Testimony I grew up in a Christian home with Christian examples all around me. I attended a Christian school; Liberty Christian Academy and I now go to a Christian college, Liberty University. Being surrounded by Christian people all my life, I know what it means to truly believe in God, and what it looks like to be a saved person and live for Christ. I personally know the challenges and struggles a Christian can and will face, but I also know that living for God is worth it because in the end I will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Accepting Christ to live in your heart requires four steps. The first step is to agree with God that you live a sinful life, you are not a perfect person, but Jesus was. The second step is to believe that Jesus is God, and the Holy Spirit. You must also believe that any other idol in your life, money, food, work, another person, etc. is a sin. God should be the center of attention in your life and you should strive to know Him more everyday and grow a strong, personal relationship with Him. The third step is to really believe that the only way man could be saved from our sins is when Jesus was crucified on the cross. If Jesus had not given His own life, man would have to suffer for our sins. The last step to having faith in God believes that he rose from the dead three days after dying on the cross. This proves to us that not only can Jesus conquer spiritual death, but also physical death...

Nietzsche Critique on Christianity

...Nietzsche critique on Christianity Nietzsche speaks immensely upon the idea of God/super natural being. At the time of Nietzsche's writings Christianity was widely practiced in Eastern Europe. Hence it was the main religion practiced by those reading who were reading Nietzsche. Before we can approach his critique of Christianity we need to understand the man himself a little. Nietzsche was born into a family who was extremely Christian, his uncle and grandfather were both Lutheran ministers and a majority of his family were devoted Christians. At a young age Nietzsche was exposed to life's greatest tragedy, his father died from a brain ailment and shortly after his younger brother passed away too. Fast-forward a little Nietzsche enters the University of Bonn as a theology and philology student. He later leans towards the study of philology, as his academic study progresses; this would later be the main tool for him as he uses it in his interpretation of the biblical text. Now that we have a better understanding of some of the more important events in Nietzsche life we can start evaluating his criticism on Christianity and God. One of the most famous quotes from Nietzsche's “God is dead”. Nietzsche states that there is no need for God in the world that we live in; God is not relevant anymore to anyone. For Nietzsche there is no need for a God, and while he understands the draw to the wanting of a God and an afterlife Nietzsche forces us to question everything we hold...
