...In 1955 when France pulled out of Vietnam the U.S felt like they had to take action in order to prevent South Vietnam from falling into Communism. Starting in 1955-56 the U.S started to send military advisors to assist the South Vietnamese army. The U.S was worried that Ho Chi Minh, leader of the North Vietnamese Communists would try to unify Vietnam under Communist rule. At this time president Truman viewed Communism as the greatest post-war threat and was worried about the spread of communism in Vietnam. Truman believed that the U.S should be world police and prevent the spread of communism. As the U.S tried to fight against the spread of communism the power of Communist rebels in South Vietnam kept increasing. As a result president Truman felt obligated to send more and more military advisors until finally in 1965 Truman sent a large number of American combat troops into Vietnam to prop-up South Vietnam. This war was obviously between North Vietnam, supported by its communist allies, and the government of South Vietnam, supported by the United States of America and other anti-communist countries. The United States played a big role taking the side of the South Vietnamese army but failed to have the support of the American people. The involvement of the United States into the Vietnam War was obviously not justified for many reason which I will talk about in the following. Since the American people didn’t support the U.S getting involved in war with communist North Vietnam...

...Military Intervention Ever thought about why the U.S. always has to ho help other countries during a war? They should just sit back and mind their own business until they’re being directed in the war. The troops are being deployed to different areas around the world. The president needs to just keep them all in one spot to decrease the killing that’s happening. The military shouldn’t get involved with other countries war because that’s causing deaths, lack of support from the ones who are really battling in the war, and funding for it (Romesh 1). When the troops try to ask the government for help they always turn them down. Instead, the government is willing to help other countries like Syria with their weapons instead of the U.S. It’s the...

Walking to my dresser, I pondered. Should I join them? I shook the thought as I remembered what kind of trouble I could get in. Here at Berkeley, the officials banned political solicitations for any civil right movements. If I didn't know this, the protesters would be like vultures to ensure I knew this. Somehow, I got here, at U.C. Berkeley,...

...and Ally both struggle throughout their life in school, but they both have friends that stand up for them and support them. An example in “Fish in a Tree” is when Ally’s friend Albert stands up for her when some high-school bullies come and tease her. An example from the book “Wonder” is when August’s friend Summer stood up for him when Julian (a bully in their class) was teasing him. In both books, the authors make the main characters have good friends that stand up for their friends differences. One difference between the two books is that in the book “Fish in a Tree”, the Ally’s brother has dyslexia too, while in the book “Wonder”, August is the only one with a different appearance. In the book “Fish in a Tree”, Ally’s brother gets to join in on the private lessons with Ally’s teacher. In these private lessons, Ally gets help from her teacher and slowly learns how to read with dyslexia. ...Previous attempts Do You Ignore Homeless People? We should not ignore homeless people on the street but to help them. Homeless people go unseen every day, as passersby ignore their existence on sidewalks, in parks, in subway stations. Based on the U.S. Conference of Mayors report from 2008, 19 of the 25 cities reported an increase in homelessness from 2007. More specifically, 16 cities reported an increase in the number of homeless families. Also, due to the recent foreclosures crisis, homelessness has been on the rise. In the U.S. Conference of Mayor’s 2008 Report, 12 of the 25 cities surveyed reported an increase in homelessness. There were some campaigns have been done after the increasing of the population of homelessness in America. Firstly, The National Center on Family Homelessness launched the Campaign to End Child Homelessness in 2009 to ensure that not one child in America goes to sleep for one night without a home. They believe it unacceptable for any child in the United States to be homeless. The Campaign's legacy will be that all children who are homeless will have stable housing, vital support services, and the same opportunities available to more fortunate children. The campaign plans to better address the needs of homeless children, improve programs and services to meet the unique needs of homeless children. Unfortunately, according to the America’s Youngest Outcasts 2010 State Report Card on Child Homelessness the numbers of homeless children increase by more...

...people who hold higher positions in the United States. So as of August 14, 2016, Kaepernick began to sit out the national anthem in protest (Sandritter). This led to a snowball effect of wrongful discrimination towards most NFL players because of what they did following the Kaepernick events, how the politics got involved, and how the public perceives the protest that took place. Following the events that took place during the 2016 NFL preseason with Colin Kaepernick, player all over the NFL slowly began to join the movement of kneeling during the National Anthem. “ By the start of the 2016 NFL regular season, 49ers safety Eric Reid, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane, and Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall had emulated Kaepernick’s kneeling posture during the national anthem” (Edelman 6). With the inclusion of these men to the protest, people had began to be disgusted by these actions. This led to a picture being painted about these men that shouldn’t have been said. These players were being discriminated all across america just because they were standing up for what they thought had been right. There response to discrimination, which was a perfect defense, was that they have a right to protest. “Under constitutional law, the strongest argument that certain NFL players enjoy a protectable right to protest comes from the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution” (Edelman 8). This seems to be a excellent counter to all the pro-flag activists...

No one knows how insane he is. No one knows how he hurts me, makes it harder for me to breathe, and then releases me, as if, even if I did suddenly stop breathing, he would laugh and say that it was a joke like he always does. But there was something that happened last night. And I don’t know if I should believe him or not, and I don’t know if he is worth trusting yet. I don’t know if he was serious, or if it was all a prank, or even if he knew that I was pretending to be asleep. But he said that he was sorry. And he said that he loved you, Ender. Does he love you? Why did I choose to go to Battle School again? Was it because I was a wimp? Stilson is nothing compared to what I’ll face here. Was I afraid of myself? Of Peter? I didn’t leave my whole family to be known as a bugger even in Battle School. I want to know what scared me, I want to know what made me come here again. ...8 *August 15–21 Cross-Cultural Missions Sabbath Afternoon Read for This Week’s Study: John 4:4–30, Matt. 8:5–13, Mark 5:1–20, Matt. 15:21–28, Luke 17:11–19, John 12:20–32. Memory Text: “ ‘Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the Gentiles’ ” (Matthew 12:18, NKJV). H ow interesting that Jesus spent so much of His earlier years in Galilee, known as “Galilee of the Gentiles” (Matt. 4:15), no doubt named because of the non-Jewish influence in the province. In this region, in Nazareth, Jesus spent the majority of His years before starting His public ministry. Thanks to its position, Nazareth was near major routes traveled by Roman army units, as well as merchant caravans. As a result, Jesus must have been in contact with non-Jews His whole early life (not to mention the time in Egypt). After His rejection in Nazareth (see Luke 4:16–31), Jesus centered His ministry in the cosmopolitan Galilean city of Capernaum. Contacts with Gentiles and their world significantly impacted His ministry and teaching. Even though He focused on Israel, the wider world was His concern. During the more than three years of His ministry between His baptism and ascension, on at least six occasions Jesus had direct contact with persons from Gentile nations. We will look this week at the Gospel accounts of these contacts. * Study this week’s lesson to prepare for Sabbath, August 22. 64 S unday...
