Introduction
The business environment offers a lot of challenges for every individual looking to penetrate this field especially for women as it is a field dominated by males and gives men an unfair advantage over women. Women are still very largely underrepresented in leadership positions in the business environment since women started to be visible in the environment during the late 1970’s. Adler & Izraeli (1994: 89) state that, “although women represent more than 50% of the world population, there is no country in which women represent half, or even close to half of the corporate managers”. Therefore in this essay one shall attempt to discuss the leadership challenges facing women in the business environment by firstly defining leadership …show more content…
Socio cultural stereotypes are the perceptions in which societies and cultures determine or judge on how one is to behave, which roles you are to perform and what is expected of a certain gender or race for example women in the business environment. Hereby presenting a major challenge that really affects the process of equality amongst men and women in leadership positions of the business environment. Verifiably, authority has conveyed the thought of manliness and the conviction that men are better pioneers than women is still basic today. Despite the fact that the number of female leaders has expanded, they are regularly named as an untimely idea. The societal traditions in regards to sex and initiative customarily bar females, and top authority is seen as a manly area. The social development of initiative in itself induces contrast and this is just now being changed or challenged as ladies obtain entrance to administration positions.
