These expatriates are familiar with management theories and practices based on value orientations very different from those in India. Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck's Value Orientations Framework is used to provide an overview of the different types of cultural values an expatriate manager will confront in Indian society. Using the value theory as a foundation, we wanted to know whether Americans and Indians are focused more on completing tasks or maintaining relationships. It is important for managers, leaders, and working professionals to reflect on their relationships with people of different cultures and examine how differences in context can lead to cultural misunderstanding for overseas employees living or working in India or the United States (Cavico and Mujtaba, 2011).
