The Warcraft Iii Adventure

...The Warcraft III Adventure June 7, 2013 PROLOGUE: The Adventure Begins When this homework was assigned last Saturday, I knew then that this was going to be an adventure. I have never played Warcraft-DOTA before but, I am aware that it is an addictive game. I know this because my 20-year old nephew, still a third year industrial engineering student up to this day, was an excessively avid player. Two years of his college life were wasted because of his addiction with the game. He could have been graduating this year if not for the addiction. Thus, when I heard from Professor Nicart that the game has been lauded by no less than The Harvard School of Business because of its contribution in developing management skills, I was intrigued. Then, she said we have to play the game at least 30 minutes a day for the next 5 to 6 days, I was amused and thought to myself that my nephew would have a blast when he hears about this. Hence, the adventure for me began even before I would play the game. CHAPTER ONE: Acquiring The Warcraft-DOTA File I had a very busy schedule ahead of me this week. I thought that in order to have this homework done, I had to finish it as soon as possible. So, as soon as I got back home last Saturday, which was about 7:30 PM because electricity in our area only came back around that time, I immediately searched if the “Warcraft-DOTA” file was installed in our computer. It was not. I also searched the other laptops we had at home and I didn’t...

...Mar 2014. Web. 21 Jul 2014. The new research shows that online social behavior is not replacing offline social behavior in the gaming community. Instead, online gaming is expanding players’ social lives. This article shows several tracking results to prove this point. “Gamers are not the antisocial basement-dwellers we see in pop culture stereotypes, they’re highly social people,” says Dr. Nick Taylor, an assistant professor of communication at NC State and lead author of a paper on the study. “This won't be a surprise to the gaming community, but it’s worth telling everyone else. Loners are the outliers in gaming, not the norm.” Indeed, in recent years, a lot of players of massively multiplayer role-player games such as War of Warcraft (WOW) took an in-depth survey about their offline social lives. At the same time, researchers tracked the offline behavior of these players. The result showed that most of these players had high social skills both online and offline. It means online gaming do not affect players’ offline social behaviors, however, online gaming can even improve players’ social ability. As a WOW player, I do absolutely understand reasons of this situation. First, massively multiplayer role-player games almost create real social environments to let players talk, drink and chat online. It is just like communicating with people in a coffee bar but not face to face. What’s more, when players fight with the boss as a team, social skills become more important....

Argument

...1. When I began reading the chapter, I thought of argument as conflict between two or more party over a problem. However, once I had finished the chapter I believe that argument mean to solve a problem with no string attach. 2. One example of issues are everywhere, is at the store and you are deciding rather to buy banana or apple. Another example is Election Day, rather to vote for one candidate over the other. For an visual argument example: Unknown. “Just Do It.” Photo. A traditional argument example is the public debate among candidates for public office or among other individuals view. Another example of tradition argument is Courtroom argument, with lawyers pleading before judge and jury. Consensual argument can happen in college class as your professor try to guide you to the final idea. Another consensual argument can happen in political science, because in politic science, you will need to take part in academic inquiry to come to a conclusion. 4. For an argument to work best, you will need claim and support. 5. For an argument to fail, it might just be not enough true support, false facts, and cannot claim anything. 6. Advantages of Video Games

...Should Parents Allow Their Children to Play Video Games? Video games can best be defined as an interactive electronic game that requires players to control the movement of the character by using a controller and gain points and money, to say the least. Almost all video games require a medium for it to process the movements and actions of the player. The medium can be in a form of a game console, a disc where the game information is stored, a computer and sometimes both disc and console put together. For example, the Xbox or the Playstation require both the console and disc where as some games can be downloaded through the internet. The first form of video game that appeared on departmental store shelves was ‘Pong’ where basically the game was ping pong in an electronic appearance. The game had 2 straight lines that represented the paddles and a dot that represented the ball. The rules of the game was similar to its real counterpart, of that if one player did not hit the ball, the other player would gain one point. Before the game was introduced in a home version, the game was in arcades where children and adults would come and play (Winter, 2010). And ever since the video game was created, it would be surrounded by controversies where people always pointed out the negative effects of it just to get their kids off video games. Today, the video game has evolved rapidly and there are games developed for adults and games are played worldwide. Game consoles have evolved through...

Video Game Addiction

...Online Game Addiction Technology is one of the major assets in today’s world. Some human being living in this world surely uses technology in their everyday living. Nowadays, technology does have many uses and advantages yet one cannot deny, it also has some disadvantages and one of this is video game addiction. Cause and effects of the video game addiction recommends some solutions” Video Game Addiction is excessive or compulsive use of computer or video games that interferes with our daily life. Instances have been reported in which users play compulsively, isolating themselves from other forms of social contacts and focusing almost entirely in-game achievements rather than broader life events and “Studies have indicated that males play video games more frequently than females. Television program producers and video game manufacturers may produce violent shows and games for this audience. This demand for violence may not arise because of an innate male desire to witness violence, but because males are looking for strong role models, which they find in these shows and games” (Clark, 1993) Playing video games has become almost as popular as watching television. The vast majority of school children play video games; they are part of the daily routine of 65% of American households. Video games account for 30% of the US toy market and the annual earnings from video games approaches nine billion dollars, which is more than the gross sales from box office tickets for movies. Violence and Video Games

...Jeffery Horswell ENG 101-001 04-09-2014 Violent Video Games and Their Alleged Effect Douglas A. Gentile writes that there are positive and negative aspects of video games. If you take video games that do not involve violence, but education instead, you find a positive outcome. Video games could very well be the new form of education to a certain degree. Things like coordination skills, memorization, and even learning a foreign language could be possible outcomes. Violent games on the other hand are a different story in and of themselves. Violent video games are defined as, any game where players can self- inflict harm on something (or someone) in the game. Time is also a huge factor. Putting a school aged kid in front of a violent video game, and allowing him to play for hours a day, will most likely decrease their ability to fulfill academic goals. The answer to this problem is to just limit the amount of time in front of a screen to one or two hours a day (non-academic). Also, limit the amount of violent games and encourage the more educational ones. “The conclusion I draw from the accumulated research is that the question of whether video games are “good” or “bad” for children is oversimplified” (Gentile). The discussion on whether video game play affects sociable behavior could be...

Death Penalty

...Evan Davis May 14, 2015 American institution Prof. Pro Con Capital Punishment Capital Punishment is a highly controversial and emotional issue which most people seem to have strong arguments for and against. The use of Capital Punishment in America has become a controversy among Americans. Controversy whether to ban Capital Punishment or not has become a top priority for most politicians. On one hand it brings justice, yet on the other its taking a life. These two mind set lead to numerous debates and disputes on the topic and even be linked to other controversial topics like abortion or gun laws. If someone was to believe that capital punishment was just and deserved to the law breaker, they are viewed as mad or blood thirsty. While if one was against it they are called weak or not American in some minds. With both views come valid points but also hard issues. The economic argument that is always seems to come up is the cost of the death penalty opposed to just life in prison. According to California state records, the operating expense to finance the penalty costs tax payers more than $114 million annually (Tempest). A 2005 report from Newsday concluded that New Jersey tax payers have spent a total of $253 million since 1983, which is an incomparably greater cost than if capital punishment was idle (Newsday). "A 1991 study of the Texas criminal justice system estimated the cost of appealing capital murder is around $2.3 million. In contrast, the cost of housing a...

...Computer Game Addiction - Symptoms, Treatment, & FAQs By Dr. Brent Conrad Clinical Psychologist for TechAddiction What is computer game addiction? Computer game addiction generally refers to an excessive, unhealthy amount of playing computer games. Rather than engaging in the real world, an addicted user devotes the majority of his or her time to gaming. The addicted gamer often isolates him/herself from others, ignores more important responsibilities, and is often obsessed with obtaining higher status / rankings / achievements in his/her favorite computer game. Is computer game addiction a diagnosable disorder? According to the DSM-IV (the current manual for classifying emotional, psychological, and mental disorders), no. Although there have been calls from some mental health professionals (and parents) to recognize computer game addiction as a "real" disorder, it has not been granted official diagnostic status. As more research on the effects of excessive gaming is conducted, many believe that it is only a matter of time before computer game addiction is classified as a compulsive behavior similar to gambling addiction.   What are the symptoms of computer game addiction? Because there is no official diagnosis of computer game addiction, there is obviously no universally agreed upon list of symptoms. Psychologists and other mental health professionals initially adapted the diagnostic criteria for gambling addiction and used this as a rough assessment tool...

While we are becoming very dependent on it, social web is a major part of our lives, and most used aspect of the web. Social Web is a set of social relations, a relationship between two or more individuals, which link people through the World Wide Web. It continues to expand and new sites, connections, and ways to connect are introduced all the time, it is intriguing and a new approach to the traditional ways to communicate. As Americans we are always looking for the next big thing, and social web gives us a way to connect with virtually anyone, easily. In the past thirty years, technology has changed a tremendous amount, especially in the category of Social Web. It all began in 1979 with Tom Truscott and Jim Ellis, who posted news articles and the concept of Usernets was conceived. Usernets were the precursor to Social web because it set the example and showed the use of internet incorporated into our lifestyles online. From there Usernets evolved into BBSs (Bulletin Board Systems) this came around in the late 70s early 80s. It was the new advancement in social web, the only catch being only one at a time could log on. Being the, “next big thing,” everyone was getting involved and although most used it for respectable purposes, some ruined it for the rest by hacking, posting illegal things, and inappropriate material. ...Smoking  Definition Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. Casual smoking is the act of smoking only occasionally, usually in a social situation or to relieve stress. A smoking habit is a physical addiction to tobacco products. Many health experts now regard habitual smoking as a psychological addiction, too, and one with serious health consequences. Smoking risks Smoking is recognized as the leading preventable cause of death, causing or contributing to the deaths of approximately 430,700 Americans each year. Anyone with a smoking habit has an increased chance of lung, cervical, and other types of cancer; respiratory diseases such as emphysema, asthma, and chronic bronchitis; and cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke, and atherosclerosis (narrowing and hardening of the arteries). The risk of stroke is especially high in women who take birth control pills. Smoking can damage fertility, making it harder to conceive, and it can interfere with the growth of the fetus during pregnancy. It accounts for an estimated 14% of premature births and 10% of infant deaths. There is some evidence that smoking may cause impotence in some men. Because smoking affects so many of the body's systems, smokers often have vitamin deficiencies and suffer oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that steal electrons from other molecules, turning the other molecules into free...
