What is the difference between medicine and public health? Medicine saves one life at a time, yet public health saves millions. In the result of a zombie apocalypse, no one ever knows what will happen. The role of the Director of Health is to be prepared for all possible contingencies. He prevents the spread of diseases, responds to disasters, assists communities in recovery, and assures the quality and accessibility of health services. You will need water to stay hydrated and nourished. Food is a big deal because everyone has to fend for themselves. You should bring enough for you and your family. Flashlights are needed just in case the electricity goes out so you will need a source of light. Everyone needs their own first aid kit. The first aid kit needs to contain bandaids, medicine, ointments, alcohol wipes, and whatever you think you will need. The first idea that comes to mind is to clear out a hospital and fortify it for safety. This appears to be the most logical decision because the equipment and space needed to treat patients would be in this location. The second choice is to create a makeshift clinic that could be packed up and moved wherever necessary. This mobile clinic would consist of tents that would be enclosed in a safe location that would be chosen based off of the surrounding environment. The capability to be mobile would be immensely beneficial because it would not be limited to one area. If necessary, the clinic could be moved to any area in which survivors were incapacitated or too sick to get themselves to the clinic. And arguably the safest, but fairly difficult to execute, is to use a large ship to keep patients away from the zombie threat. A rigorous factor in this plan however, is how to transport people on and off of the boat safely. It would require a second, smaller boat that would preferably be easy to row due to the difficulty of obtaining fuel for a motor. However, this plan also comes with a potential risk. If the patients that are being carried onto the boat are not carefully evaluated before they are brought on, then there could be a major security breach.
