...The most influential person in my life has often stated that “taking risks and overcoming obstacles promotes important discoveries in your life and work.” The most important experience in my life sought me out. It happened to me; I didn’t cause it. However, I am so grateful for that experience because it has changed me in a magnificent way. I have discovered many things about myself as well as others that have benefited my maturity. As I sat at the dining room table one Tuesday night awaiting dinner, I felt as though my world was starting to crash down around me. School, work, friends, and just life in general were stressing me out, not to mention thoughts of the future. I was suddenly faced with the most devastating news of my life; or so I thought. My mother has always been my most adamant supporter but as she sat there, telling me that I would have to pay for my college tuition, I couldn’t help but feel nothing less of hatred for her. The lack of my parents’ financial support has motivated me to prove that I can and will achieve my dreams. As a result of this experience, I am currently in school while holding two jobs at the same time which takes a great deal of responsibility and a considerable amount of time. Working two jobs and staying in school is not exactly what I call fun. However, it is worth the trouble knowing that I get a lesson about responsibility out of it. All this hard work has taught me how to be responsible. I can use this example now and put it into use...

...An Influential Person Maneashia Lane English 121 Adam Deutsch February 09, 2015 Introduction Today I would like to introduce you to the most influential person in my life. Her name is Carla Simmons. She is my 41 year sister from Talladega, Al. According to her, growing up she never had a plan or a blueprint for her life. As a result, she never completed anything she started. Consequently, she accomplished her goals later in life. In 2005 she received her Real Estate license. It was a struggle because she was a single mother of two and worked a full-time job. She worked from 6 A.M-4:30 P.M. She went straight to class after work and didn’t get home until 11 PM. She was tired but she was persistent. In 2014, she received a Bachelor degree in Organizational Management from Historical Talladega College. She is now pursuing an MBA in Organizational Management. She knows when to be serious and when to have fun. She surrounds herself with positive people, makes time for herself, does things she enjoys doing, and she constantly thinks about being successful. She is an optimist at heart and she has a very positive outlook on life. First of all, she taught me how to surround myself with positive people because negative people gripe and complain, and have nothing good to say. And no matter how one tries to convince them, they cannot and will not accept that way of thinking. Keeping a positive attitude can be difficult if your audience is negative people, and they are constantly...

...teachers would assign books to read, I never really had an interest in sitting down and reading them. However, the one book I specifically enjoyed reading was White Oleander by Janet Fitch. Even though this was a fiction novel, I loved how real it felt while reading it. There was so much emotion involved in the story that it helped me feel connected to the main character as a reader. It was hard for me to put this book down because I was so invested in the story. When it comes to non-fiction, I do not remember reading any in school that I really enjoyed except for Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. In this book, Mitch Albom discusses his relationship with his college professor Morrie. After Mitch graduated...

...machines. Among 40000 printing presses in the United States, excluding the top 25 accounted for 25% of industry volume and 500 printers accounted for another 25% of industry volume, the remaining 50% are accounted for small companies. Among these 20000 small presses, considering the Xerox's market share is 50%, I estimate the 80% of this market choose the Xerox's machines and compute the number is 16000 through direct sales. By establishing service centers, Xerox would enter into book production business and face some uncertain factors. According to Table E, the number of books is 624 million and on demand conversion potential is 37%, the volume that could be converted to "on demand" is approximately 231 million. The operating costs without (R&D) could be covered at production volume of 250000, if the Xerox occupies the 100% market share, I estimate the number of machines required is 924. So I think the number of machines that would be sold is no more than 900. What' more, If it makes success in book production industry, the share of machine market would be positively influenced on that number. However, if it fails in that area, the sales might be declined somewhat. I favor the first option that selling the machines through direct sales. First, it's more effective because Xerox has already owned the fixed customers and large share in the market and access to them easily. Second, establishing service centers need a large volume to cover the...

...Professor Donna Manley MKT 100 October 28, 2012 Is Bookstores History? Well everyone knows what a book is and how much information you can get from a book but, are bookstores becoming a thing of the past as technology advances and we have e-readers and online stores like Amazon who sell book at bargain prices (Bosker, 2010). E-readers are now replacing bookstores so you no longer have to travel to a bookstore to wait for your books. E-reader might cost a hefty penny at first but it saves space and you can have multiply books at once without worrying about having a bookstore in your house. So the question is are bookstores becoming obsolete and if so what countries would benefits from having bookstores instead of e-readers. The current target market and demographics for bookstores would be readers of all ages and sex as they use bookstore to purchase all types of books; for their personal enjoyment or research. Bookstores are declining in popularity because technology is making it possible for consumers to read book on their e-readers and laptop computers. While technology is taking over this generation people are becoming more concise of the environment and being green. When readers are into green products they realize e-readers are more useful then book and going to a book store. Also when you have places like Starbucks and Panera Bread that give you that bookstore feel you no longer are in need of a bookstore. Readers are able to purchases books online, which save them...

...Anisa Ellis-Smith Ms. Rochman English 12 January 2, 2013 Forever: An Overly Sexual Abomination or Coming of Age Novel? The first amendment of the Constitution has given every American citizen the right practice freedom of speech. Yet and still, it seems that literary censorship, which is “the act of changing or suppressing speech or writing that is considered subversive of the common good,” (Merriam-Webster, 2012) has been more prevalent in the past 100 years than ever before. People all around the country have been affected by the parameters of censorship. Author Judy Blume once said when asked her opinion about it the topic, “It’s not just the books under fire now that worry me. It is the books that will never be written. The books that will never be read. And all due to the fear of censorship. As always, young readers will be the real losers.” (NMSU Library, n.d.). Blume, herself, is no stranger to censorship. Several of her writings have made ALA’s list of 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books. Her 1975 novel Forever was both challenged and banned in over 10 different states because of its descriptively sexual content, disobedience to parents, “lack of moral tone,” and use of profanity (Censorship & Judy Blume, n.d.). Forever is the story of two high school seniors, Katherine and Michael, and their journey throughout their relationship. The teens meet at a party and fall in love from there. Eventually, Katherine loses her virginity to Michael and they promise each...

...One hundred years ago people did not have the technology that we have today. People prefer the technology that we have now. Daily life has improved over the past 100 years because of the way technology has changed reading, playing games, and communication. Technology has changed the way we read. Back then books were rare, and now we can get them on our phones through the internet. Books are less expensive and easier to get. We have more choices on what topics to read about. In the early 1900s, there were few books, but now with the internet we read books online. Books look different now. Books started out as paper, but now they are computer files. Technology has improved reading by making it available. In the past hundred years,...
