...Art101 Assignment 8.1: Discussion on Contemporary Art Trends (Manjares) What trends do you see in art today? Have you found art that is being produced currently that speaks to your experience? Have you found art that has engaged, informed, and changed your view? The 21st century has witnessed the growth of many technological innovations that affect everyday life, such as the Internet and satellite systems. Satart is a new type of art that is done by a satellite. There is no brush or stroke done in this type of art. I think this is a wonderful way to capture art from all around the globe. At first I thought that art was just as boring as when you watch a move that had no action, but know that I have done this course I have found that art is interesting and fun to know about. As you explore for the facts it is like building a puzzle every piece helps you understand and to appreciate art. After this course I have changed the way I see art. Now I can see what the artist felt and what he was trying to express with the colors and lines. It has made me look at art in a different way like when I see a painting I like it seems to talk to me and I reflect myself in it. I have enjoyed this course as well as all of my fellow peers. Thanks everyone I have had lots of fun!...

...Teams in the 21st Cent SOC/110 November 4, 2013 Teams in the 21st Century From the time that you are a young child you begin to experience working in teams. Teams have become an important part of the 21st Century whether it be in education, athletics, or even at the workplace. In this paper I’ll discuss my experience working in teams, the advantages of being part of a team, and how having stronger team skills could really benefit you. I worked on my first team at the age of eight when I was on my first softball team. I never really knew what being part of a team meant until I played with those girls and that is an experience I have never forgotten even today. As I got older and in high school being part of a team became more common with the DECA club, Student Council, and the Dance Team. Each of these teams are all different in their own way but they each individually taught me skills that I still use to this day. Now that I am older I have realized that not everyone has the same idea or definition of what a team exactly is. As a student at the University of Phoenix working in teams is a big part of my school assignments each week. I have had some really positive experiences but there have been other times when my experiences were not so good. The one consistent problem I seem to have is getting everyone to do their part of the assignment on time or even at all which can be very frustrating at times. When I was younger it was fun to be part of a...

...The 21st century is marked by the advent of the Internet. It is followed by the freely-distributed information, which has fuelled public worries about offensive contents, terrorists, copyright infringement. Hence, an issue people are openly debating is whether we should censor the Internet. In my opinion, I am sided with those who oppose this regulation. One of the main benefits associated with the unrestricted environment on the Internet is that netizens can voice their points of view without restraints. The surfers can get the whole picture of a problem and determine their own opinion. Moreover, the driving force behind some websites being blocked is that Internet also serves as a governmental tool. Any contents which go against the political wills and aims will be blocked from the Net. Another main justification for an unregulated cyberspace is that a vast source of knowledge and entertainment can be accessed easily. With a click of a mouse, we can download a song, a movie or a book to the computer. Possibly no century witnesses more drastic changes in the recreation habits than the 21st century has done. Even so, this issue is fraught with controversy, with concern being expressed over the copyright violation. This worry is unnecessary, considering the fact that such download sites also contribute to promoting the art works and distribute them to much more customers. In addition, the artists still get their income through the revenues from selling music via iTunes, Amazon...

...other leaders, leaders of nonprofit organizations must help individuals and groupscreate a mission and value, set goals, and create a strategy for achieving them. However there arealso unique challenges for leaders of nonprofits. According to the text The Art and Science of Leadership , “The public -good mission of nonprofits, along with the voluntary participation of many of their employees, contributors, and other stakeholders create a particular burden onleaders of such organizations to lead through a collaborative and trust- based style,” (Nahavandi, Understanding Strategic Forces 6 2009. pg. 250). Challenges like this, as well as many others, demand that nonprofit leaders trulyhave a calling for the mission of the organization and that elements such as integrity, trustworthiness, and self-sacrifice are a part of who they are as leaders. Because the monetary profit motive is not nearly as great for nonprofit leaders, these leaders need to possess a callingfor civic duty to help keep them remain motivated and committed to the cause. One of the main challenges nonprofit leaders face is how to attract, retain, motivate andreward their employees, many of whom are volunteers, without having access to large funds touse as reward. This is why these leaders must possess an expertise in skills such as inspiring andmotivating their followers. Also, because nonprofits tend to have fewer resources, leaders arechallenged by learning how to utilize effective leadership skills...

...HUM What is you were a researcher in the year 2500 looking back 500 years. How would you describe the early 21st century. As I looked back over the early 21st century doing some research, many central values were evident. One was courage. During a period of economic hardship, government shut downs, and employee lay-offs, the people still faced each day one at a time. This type of courage lied in the belief that soon there would be change, and this too should pass. The people also possessed a strong spirit of compassion during this time. Knowing that there were some less fortunate due to job loss, people were able to ban together to ensure everyone had what they needed and lacked nothing. There were also some that were fighting for equality, but not from other races or gender, but in marriages. These persons were strong in their belief that God had made them gay, homosexual, or bisexual from birth and were demanding that they be recipients of the same spiritual and earthly benefits of those in true Holy matrimony. This was a time were the fulfillment of the flesh was the priority and not following the Will of God in their lives. As I probed further, a level of innovativeness was present amongst this group. Persons were trying to improvise and still maintain the value of independence. Despite the cut backs and government funding that had ceased in a lot of different areas, some people still attested to the fact that they did not want what was going on around them to lower...

...Question: How influential is Scientific Management in 21st Century? Please note: The referencing system used in this essay is NOT the Harvard System and therefore INCORRECT practice. Please ignore this style of referencing, the essay is shown as a model of good practice only re structure and analysis. How influential is scientific management in the 21st century? 1. Scientific management was originally developed in the 1800s by an economist, Adam Smith. He was interested in a factory that operated and produced pins, and through the breaking down of tasks e.g. division of labour he increased output from 20 pins per employee per day to 4,800 pins. However the greatest break through in scientific management came in the 1900s during the peak of the industrial revolution, and due to the emergence of the factory system more attention was being given to methods or factors that could contribute towards increasing output levels. It was here that Frederick Taylor began his studies into this field and his ideas were later furthered by individuals such as Gilbreth and Gantt. Despite each individual having a significant input into the study of scientific management Taylor was widely regarded as the ‘Father of Scientific Management’ and hence the term ‘Taylorism’ being introduced. 2. Technically Scientific Management is the “management thought concerned primarily with the physical efficiency of an individual worker”[1]. However George Ritzer defined Scientific Management...

...portrayed in a particular way. If all information was introduced from one point of view there wouldn't be space left for analysis and discussion. Everyone would just assume that this is the only concept to consider and acknowledge. Therefore it is significant that Media give us a choice and various options to compare and debate at. Unfortunately we are not always given that choice. It is commonly known that some Media only show what they comprehend as an important issue and the layout of the information is very often limited to one side. Also governments frequently control what can be and can not be published, like in China for example. John L. Esposito and Ibrahim Kalin in their book “Islamophobia:The Challenge of Pluralism in the 21st Century” argue that if Media continue focusing on negative aspects of Islam communities in Europe, the public influenced by these presentations will develop negative feelings and prejudice towards these communities. That is why I believe that pluralism is very important in Media. Different views and opinions should always be presented and displayed. If we have several arguments we also have an...

Our chore distribution isn’t based on gendered lines, we have a rule which goes ‘if its not in it’s normal state someone has to do something’ Said all that you can see that we are both responsible for our house, light now we don’t have a child but my step son usually visits us on weekends. Having this kind of relationship has enable both of us to work, go back to school and manage our small company with less tress and have enough tie to rest. In the 21st century we have seen a huge increase of working class women different from other centuries. According to Coontz With the emergence of a wage-labor system and a...

...Smart weapons 1. Should UCAV drones be considered a type of killer robot of the sort Lokhorst and van den Hoven discuss? I do not believe that UCAV drones should be considered a killer robot because while they can be used to kill, they are an instrument designed by humans to do a job. 2. Is UAV technology for military applications subject to the same concerns about technology and violence that Arendt raises for the technologies of the late 20th century? No, because the technology of the 21st century has become more advanced and should be held to a higher standard than it used to be. 3. Are Kaag and Kreps correct to say that the introduction of military UAV’s finally allows us to meaningfully consider how to wage a just war? Yes, because before many decisions were made in the heat of the moment and now we are able to step back and decide if it is really a morally or just way to wage that war. 4. Does use of UCAV’s by one nation increase the security for that nation? The use of UCAV’s do not increase the security for that nation because if a country has many technological advances other countries will consider them a larger threat than an underdeveloped nation. 5. Does use of UCAV’s by one nation improve the quality of life for anyone? No, because the country the UCAV is being used against has to live in fear of being killed and being thrown under a blanket term like ‘contingency threats’, while the country using the UCAV are now considered a...

...celebrities were largely responsible for instilling in people such made up facts about marijuana. “Reefer Madness”, the 1936 cult hit, depicted marijuana as the primary cause for turning two teenagers into sex-crazed murderers. Novels such as “Badge of Evil”, “Casino Royale”, etc were used as strong propaganda against marijuana causing it to be considered as a violence inducing drug. Currently, marijuana does not have the lethal drug status anymore. If we happen to see someone smoking marijuana in a television program, we will definitely not get embarrassed. Although marijuana is illegal in many states of America, it is so popular and a recent study reveals that one in fifteen high school students smoke marijuana almost every day. The 21st Century considers marijuana as a medicine for many debilitating diseases and relief for chronic aches. No doubt, marijuana is a best remedy to increase appetite and thus resolve the weight loss problem in HIV patients. Similarly, marijuana is best to alleviate the intensity of pain in cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy. Marijuana as a means to get high For the majority of users, the primary purpose of using the drug is to get high. Marijuana provides the users with a feeling of elation, increase appetite and reduce inhibition. The smokers of the drug start experiencing the effect in 15 to 45 minutes after inhaling it. Studies point out that first time users of the drug may not experience these effects and may...

...Causes of Poverty I saw a video clip of a teacher talking about how she struggled with scolding a student for not paying attention in class, when in fact the student was hungry. When we have the capability of producing cars that do not use fuel, books that can be downloaded in 60 seconds or less, why do we still have poverty around the world. Some of the causes of poverty are One: The lack of education - nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names. Two: Job salary – half the world lives on less then $2.50 a day. These two areas can negatively affect society, and the world. Hunger is a negative effect. In the article “causes of hunger are related to Poverty, by Anup Shah he quoted “to understand why people go hungry you must stop thinking about food as something farmers grow for others to eat, and begin thinking about it as something companies produce for other people to buy.” In other words, those who can get food are the ones who can afford to pay for it. Lack of shelter and lack of health services are two other negative effects of poverty. Over 640 million live without adequate shelter and more than 270 million have no access to health services. To try to eliminate poverty around the world, we can begin by trying to create new jobs that replace jobs that are no longer viable. We must find ways that healthcare can be available to all, not just to those who can pay for it. And we must find ways to increase food...

...today: How far have we come? In this century, women’s lives have drastically changed. Women of today have gained equal rights, social freedom, and are now financially independent individuals that have more responsibilities than just raising children and maintaining their households. Women of the twenty-first century now make up almost half of the United States workforce (The Harried Life of the Working Mother, 2009). Whereas, women of the twentieth century, had little or no rights, and accounted for only 18% of the United States workforce (Professional Women: Vital Statistics, 2010). For the first time, women of the twenty-first century are independent individuals who determine the shape of their own lives. A typical woman in the twentieth century was expected to devote their lives to their families, and maintain their household’s daily chores. Although their entire lives were devoted to housework and children their daily labor was much harder than what women of today endure. Simply because of no advanced technology in this time period, carrying out daily chores took much time and effort, whereas women of today have the ability to complete more tasks because of the technology available to them. Many women of the twentieth century married at a young age had many children, and relied on their husband’s for full financial support. However, many women of the twenty-first century take on more responsibilities than just caring for their...

...Changes in 21st century If I have the chance to make our world a better lining place, I would implement some changes which i think that would make the world better. The aim of this essay is to analyze and explain some ways to make a better world in 21st century. Firstly, I would stop the wars in all the place and at the same time I would reduce the production of weapons which are used. All the people in the world would be lovely. This is the first change because every year, we have too many deaths from wars. As a result, there would be not hatred between tribes and people. Moreover, more people die from an incurable disease. This is very plaintive because there are no treatments to cure all diseases. Surely, I would change that so there will be more medicines and treatments to prevent people to die from diseases. Furthermore, I would make an ecological world. Firstly, I would made changes to the cars. For example, people not used petrol on the cars but, the used water. Also, anything which produces flue would be stopped and replaced by those which produce steam, which is more ecological than flue. With that change I would stop the ozone hole to grow. In conclusion, these are the changes which i would like to make for a better world in 21st century. Obviously, there are more changes we can do, however, those mentioned above I think are more important in first...
