Moving to Canada was a big change for her. In India she always had her family around her. When she moved to Canada, she no longer had the servants to work for her. Her family was busy with their jobs. After a few months, her parents had to go back to India due to personal problems and her sisters were constantly going back and forth due to their relationships. She never thought that she would have to live without her parents. When she got to know that her family has to go back, she was very stressed because she never lived alone and now it was the time she could actually go out and explore things by herself. For example: going for groceries or going out with friends. She thought it would be very difficult for her to manage all the things by herself, as she was the youngest, who knew nothing about the house chores. She always used to have negative thoughts in her mind that she has to live alone rest of her life, which created insecurities. Myra never wanted to go out alone, as she was very afraid of the world. And she was scared to travel on the buses and used to think that, some day she will get lost. She never wanted to live without her family. One day she went for groceries and was very scared. When she went out everything was perfect for her and she was not very afraid. Than day by day her fear of living alone was gone. And she realized that she could manage all the things by herself. It was not as bad as she used to

Essay On The Odyssey Hero's Journey

...The Hero’s Journey Imagine what it would be like to be a hero on a grand quest, what if I told you many of the stages of a hero’s journey are a part of every teenagers life. This is a very important view, as it focuses on the understanding of the life and journey of a teenager. This point of view will allow for three different stories to all be explained by the same general idea. There is the story of growing maturity of Holden in Catcher in the Rye, king Odysseus’ heroic journey home, and the tale of the mighty Gorgon slayer, Perseus. 1. Herald comes and greets a fool who will soon become a hero In the Odyssey Athena, the goddess of wisdom, is Odysseus’ mentor and guide. Athena disguises herself as many different people trying to make things go right for Odysseus on his way home. Since Odysseus is Athena’s favorite mortal, she even gets him out of many troubles that the Gods put him through. Athena did everything she could to see Odysseus succeed because she knew he was capable of amazing feats. Both mentors knew that their students could do amazing things, but it is the student that must do the work. In Catcher in the Rye, Mr. Spencer in the beginning is like Athena, even though Mr. Spencer was not the one to go to...

The Hobbit Hero's Journey Essay

...each combatant is often lost to the annals of history. In other works such as All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Remarque or The Metal Gear Solid series by Hideo Kojima, the spotlight shines on the brutish and hellish landscapes of war. However, J.R.R Tolkien in The Hobbit instead focuses upon the heroic journey of growing up and passing into adulthood that occurs from the adventures of war. J.R.R Tolkien incorporates the hero’s journey and claims that through the adventures of war, children grow into men as their experiences shape and permanently change their lives. The adventure begins in the normal world. Bilbo Baggins lives a simple life in his...

Essay On My Hero's Journeys

...Fate We hurriedly made our way through the overflowing sea of people. The chaos of it all is quite extraordinary, really. Never before had there been such excitement over a luxury ship such as this one. I look ahead as my sisters rush onto the so called, unsinkable ship. However, I have always been a bit of a pessimist, so I’m not one hundred percent on board with the whole idea of being on the ship’s first voyage, mind the pun. My sisters, however, are the complete opposite. Always ready for an adventure, even when it may end in tragedy. Now i’m not saying it’s going to sink or anything, because everyone else sure doesn’t think so… but how can anyone be so sure? Nobody knew our mother was sick. Not until she sent me a letter saying she had been diagnosed with influenza. My sisters and I instantly planned to go visit her. We didn’t know how much longer she would be able to withstand the pain, and we still don’t. That’s when we heard the news about the Titanic. Now here we are on April 10th at 11 a.m. checking in on the most luxurious, well known passenger ship in the world. “Nancy Smith. Second class,” I vouch, handing him my ticket. My sisters, Molly and Violet, follow close behind. Molly, being only 5 years old, doesn't quite understand our cause for suddenly picking up and leaving her daily life behind. She knows she's going to see her mother, just not the entire reasoning behind it. To her, it's an exciting ship filled with interesting new people, and overall, an adventure...

Hero's Journey Rhetorical Analysis Essay

...“Hero’s Journey” Analysis The advertisement “Hero’s Journey” by Kia Motors America is effective at persuading the audience to invest in their cars. The star of the commercial, Melissa McCarthy, comically demonstrates how the 2017 Kia Niro is integral in her efforts to be an “eco warrior” (Kia). This commercial successfully takes advantage of timing, humor, and its audiences concern about the environment to promote the vehicle. Part of the commercial’s success is due to its use of pathos: the rhetorical strategy that influences emotion (Aristotle). Pathos, in the form of humor, is used to hold the attention of the audience. When Melissa McCarthy gets catapulted into the side of a boat while trying to save the whales, the audience gets drawn...

Beowulf Epic Hero's Journey Essay

...Beowulf Essay Before the integration of written text, stories were transmitted exclusively through word of mouth, and, consequently had a short lifespan. Beowulf is a striking departure from these faltering stories, even as such it did not reach us unaltered. Beowulf edited by M.A Roberts, as a modern text, has obtained many attributes from the people who relayed the story, possibly so much it barely conveys the original authors intent. These unoriginal attributes are present throughout Beowulf’s epic hero journey, manifesting themselves within his resurrection, restitution and hubris. In the location and time where this story emanated from, Christians were oppressing and attempting to convert pagans, who were, in the Christian mind, a great evil, sometimes even thought to be a manifestation of the devil himself. Enter Beowulf’s conquering of an apparent evil, the dragon. Beowulf willingly sacrificed his life to spare and avenge humanity from the damage afflicted by this wretched worm who was aggravated by a sinful peasant. This Relates to Jesus dying on the cross freeing all people from their sins. As Beowulf dies he instills the dragons hoard upon Wiglaf. “’Now go quickly and gaze upon the hoard beneath the white rocks, beloved Wiglaf, now that the worm lies low in sleep’”(Roberts 86). This is Beowulf’s resurrection, reaching his low point when his liegemen abandoned...

Essay On Ethan Frome Hero's Journey

...The hero’s adventure describes someone’s transition into something more than themselves through trials that must be overcome. Ethan Frome is the story of a failed hero that was removed from his own story around the time that he met his mentor the kind, older professor. Edith Wharton wanted us to understand how Ethan Frome veered off course, how he failed to acknowledge the circumstances of his life, and failed to understand his failure, so that we can gain a better insight toward the depths of humanity, how we are all the heroes of our own story, failed or otherwise. Ethan fails to realize that in his own journey he has already failed, even said by the author that he thought so. “He was too young, too strong, too full of the sap of living, to submit so easily to the destruction of his hopes.” (Wharton, 71). He is unable to find happiness because he is on an adventure he is unable to complete. Frome is derailed from his adventure in a succession of three examples of mortality, the first being his father’s death, which pulled him out of Florida and back to Starkfield, the second being his mother’s sickness...

George Lewis A Hero's Journey Essay

...Five Issac Newton “Newt” Mapes Sheriff 1929-1933 George Lewis had a record. He had been arrested for robbery and sent to the Missouri Penitentiary. Once released, he left for Illinois where he committed more robberies. With the law on his trail in Illinois, he made his way to the Ozark area. Together with two other men, Lewis continued to rob and steal. His two companions were later captured, and bonded out of jail but Lewis avoided arrest and continued his robbing spree. On a tip, Sheriff Newt Mapes set up an ambush near cave 12 miles west of Ava where he had heard Lewis was hiding his plunder. The tip paid off. Along with Deputy Lige Reed, Deputy Otis Bush of Billings, Sheriff W. F. Givens and his Deputy Raymond Ridenhour, they waited for Lewis. “I think he’s coming down the trail Newt!” said deputy Lige. It was dusk and the woods were about to turn dark. “Quiet! I see him!”. As the 25-year-old who they believed to be George Lewis neared the cave, Sheriff Mapes hollered from his ambush point. “George Lewis this is Sheriff Mapes! I have you surrounded! Lay down your weapon and raise your hands high above you head!” “BAM! BAM! BAM!”. George Lewis had told his comrades he wouldn’t be taken alive and he meant it! Lewis began firing at the Sheriff’s and his Deputies. The lawmen fired back. Less than a minute later, it got quiet. The firing had stopped. Smoke filled the thick timber. “Wait here boys, I’m going to check on Lewis”. Pushing his way through the brush and limbs...

Essay On The Hero's Journey In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight

...tested Gawain's ability before crossing the threshold into the unknown by presenting to him the beheading game. This game tested Gawain's stance as a knight and also started his journey. If he could not have successfully beheaded the green knight then he would have been unable to set about the journey in the first place. This therefore shows how the green knight can function as a threshold guardian. Likewise, the porter is a threshold guardian since at the castle he asked Bertilak if Gawain can cross the bridge in order to enter the castle. The other threshold guardian is the guide that was sent with Gawain to the green chapel. When the guide questioned him and asked if he was certain that he wanted to encounter the dangerous man that lies in the...

Hero's Journey In Mosquitoland

...In the book Mosquitoland by David Arnold, the adventure of a 16-year-old girl Mary Iris Malone, or more often recognized by her acroname Mim, is featured. The plot follows the common storytelling pattern called the monomyth; others may call it the hero’s journey. The hero’s journey has eight steps, and most of the events in Mosquitoland fall into one of these stages. The primary stage of the hero’s journey is when the hero receives a call to adventure before he or she begins their expedition. In the case of Mosquitoland, Mim’s call to her adventure is when she discovers that her mother is sick, and she decides that her mom needs her. This news is her beginning phase of her campaign, which led to the expedition to find her sick mother, who is...

The Hero

...of the ‘Hero’ is one every writer should consider. The hero or protagonist is designed to keep the narrative moving and whose actions create progress for the plot (Morrow et al, 1997). Pearson (2001, p. 101) defines hero’s as “fearless protagonists who realise their own special power and go on to take great personal risks in order to change their reality. In day-to-day life, these powerful archetypes provide a structure that can release the ability of ordinary people to rise to challenges, take risks, break rules, and transform their lives”. There are many ways of defining what a hero is and what a protagonist is. A hero is usually the protagonist but this is not always the case and vice versa. For clarification purposes within this analysis a protagonist or hero is a character who drives the narrative and plot and who embarks upon a learning journey that changes them. Beowulf: An Archetypal Hero's Journey

...archetypal hero has some “…form of journey (the hero's journey archetype); these needn't be physical journeys like Homer's epics, but also spiritual journey(s)…” In the Anglo-Saxon poem, Beowulf slays dragons and monsters, as well as becomes king, and sails across vast oceans—however, Beowulf’s ultimate purpose to his journey is to be remembered for what a renowned hero he once was, as well as gain recognition from others for his heroic battles. Beowulf can be considered an archetypal hero because he possesses attributes that would be considered heroic, and also goes on a physical as well as spiritual journey. In the story of Beowulf, Beowulf has an ultimate journey that involves a call to adventure, followed by a refusal of the call, as well as reward (seizing the...

Traditions and Location

...some analysis here but it is very limited. ON the whole you are describing events and stories in animation in quite broad terms. Where there is some analysis it is very short and this needs developing further. Much of this is down to your choice of question. If you had picked a couple of Disney/Pixar films and analysed them in more detail in relation to Campbell, your essay would have been more focused. Outlining this narrowing in the question will help with this, as reading the essay, this is where the topic really lies. You need to be able to show Campbell’s theories working across more than one film for it to be a successful piece of analysis at this stage, and in doing so, it will help you reach a central argument about the use of Campbell’s theories in discussing these films – at the moment this doesn’t happen. This is the section you need to work on the most, to increase your word count and extend the overall discussion. Structure, communication, referencing/bibliography The structure is generally ok, with an introduction, and a conclusion. You need to work on some of the in between sections as the essay jumps between ideas of outlining theories, linking some of the theories briefly with The Incredibles, and then adding in extra facts about animation and box office sales. These discussions need linking further (see notes on analysis above). You are referencing well in the text, however, you need to make sure you are referencing all texts e.g. Christopher Volger’s work...
