...help. School days will be longer to make up for the day that is lost to make a three day weekend. The four day school week will mess up many things with a regular school day, some of these will be longer classes, sports at a later time, makes less time for kids to do their homework, and go longer into the summer.. The longer classes are to make up the day that was lost for the three day weekend. They could have an earlier start time to make it to where the school would still end at three o'clock. Secondly with the longer classes will make sports go later on into each evening. This gives less time for kids to do their homework or any chores that they have to do at the end of the day and after school. Kids will have to go more weeks in the school year because it is required for all students to go 180 days for a school year. This will cut into families summer plans. When 2,700 schools were polled 67% said that it was...

...For my project, I ran Coffee-Roma, a coffee shop located in the business district of a large city. My simulation ran for 60 days. Over this timeframe, I hired 7 employees and earned gross revenues of $89,984.20. From those revenues, my net profit totaled $14,046.83. Below are the details of how I attempted to best run my business. What adjustments did you make to try and improve performance? The primary adjustments that I made to improve performance included proper staffing procedures and inventory control procedures. With respect to staffing, I found that I initially had trouble serving customers quickly enough during peak hours. Customers dissatisfied with their queue times often left the store, resulting in lost sales. Accordingly, I hired additional personnel and ensured that at least three employees staffed the coffee shop during those hours considered to be peak. I found that these staffing changes led to a dramatic increase in customer satisfaction, at least as far as wait times were concerned. Perhaps the most important adjustment was implementing an inventory control procedure. When I first opened the shop, I had no idea which of my products customers would most frequently purchase. Over the first few weeks, I came to understand that customers purchased donuts and muffins at extraordinarily high rates, and they also consumed milk, cream, and sugar – accessory products – quickly. In any instance where one of these products’ inventory levels dropped...

...Once arriving at University of Phoenix School of Business MBA program with possible concentrations later, a person has reached this point for three reasons. Either to further their current career, start a new career, or achieve a personal goal. In this current program of management I am learning about where I am currently and how to advance within the companies I represent. Internships seem to be the key in what my undergrad has sent me. I have had internships with the city council government and then with a major company Lost Weekend NYC. I am also working on furthering my career with CVS Pharmacy with the possibilities of entering the Pharmacy level again or upper management. The two functional areas of business that interest me with my current positions are Marketing and Human Resources Management. This is based on advice from my previous employers in management, my emphasis in my undergraduate, and my strengths in the career interest profiler and career plan building competencies. The current Marketing Firms, in my mind, has changed here at home in the states and with the international exchange. With our current economy being in recession, most of the world and the country has seen us borrowing money and outsourcing jobs. “We also argue that through the enabling factor of marketing capabilities young firms can capitalize on their speed of internationalization to obtain performance advantages. Furthermore, the performance impact of marketing capabilities, should be more...

Six weeks ago, I was on my way out of town with some friends for a weekend. I had my laptop with me. It was a four-hour journey to our destination. So, to engage myself, I logged on to one of my psycho-drive games. After an hour of driving on the highway, the car suddenly screeched to a halt. Since we were driving at a great speed, the driver lost control of the car and car somersaulted before falling into a ditch. As the car fell into the ditch, my head hit against the roof of the car and everything blacked out. I don’t remember what happened to me after that. I was told that I had slipped into coma and only a miracle had brought me back. Another miraculous thing happened to me. At the time of the accident, I was in the midst of a game. Although, I entered it I couldn’t come out of it. Somebody stole my lot of games while I was in the hospital. Some of those were bought by a person called Michael, who rescued me and got me out. So, indirectly he is my saviour. I am planning...

...Let’s Get Together Our leadership at Mountain Christian Church, Joppa, Maryland, has worked hard to create a mission-first, team-first staff culture. We work hard to facilitate, encourage, and protect this culture with existing staff, but we work extra hard to ensure prospective staff understand, buy in, and fit in with our culture. In fact, we believe selecting new staff to join our team at Mountain is one of the most important tasks of leadership. Few decisions have a longer-term impact on a church’s health and mission than the people it hires. Selecting wisely can move the mission forward and heighten a positive staff culture. Selecting poorly can derail or deter the mission, hold back a given ministry area, or create negative energy within the entire church. We always enter the hiring process by stating clearly that we want what God wants. If God is directing us to hire someone, we believe we can determine his will through a deliberate process. This includes face-to-face contact and the involvement of discerning people. Getting a Clear Picture Our goal is to get a clear picture of the candidate’s “four C’s”: character, competence, chemistry, and calling. Character is the heart and integrity of a Christian leader. Competence includes the skill sets, gifts, education, experience, and leadership required to fulfill the responsibilities. Chemistry is the degree to which a person fits within the staff team and staff culture. This includes the specific team in which the...

...With longer days but a shorter school week, students and teachers will miss less class time, because classes would be longer. As an example, if I had an orthodontist appointment during school hours, I could be back sooner in schedule than if hours were only fifty minutes. Likewise, students and teachers have a higher chance of not missing school at all. When the students and staff of SWMS need to schedule an appointment, friday provides a non-school day to have it done. This way, mine and everyone’s appointments can be done without even missing school. Unfortunately, with the five-day school week, students and staff of SWMS must miss valuable time from their school week or their weekend when they have appointments and such. WIth a four-day school week, this would not be the case at...

...and schoolteachers don't understand them. Now they have been given top-grade academic ammunition to hurl at annoying adults before slamming the bedroom door and going back to bed - lying in bed for hours at the weekend is part of their inborn cycle of sleep and wakefulness. It's circadian rhythms innit. A US study published today in the journal Paediatrics found that early school starts were forcing students to perform academically at a time of day when they were at their worst. The researchers, from Northwestern University in Illinois, go so far as to describe the school day as causing an "epidemic of sleep deprivation among adolescents". They say the weekend lie-in enjoyed by so many young people is simply part of their natural cycle and should not be dismissed as laziness. Sixty students at Evanston Township high school in Illinois kept sleep diaries during school holidays and term-time as part of the study. Bright light was "administered" in the morning (presumably by flinging open the curtains?) in an attempt to normalise the timing of the circadian cycle. This made no difference at all. They showed that adolescents lost as much as two hours of sleep per night during their first week back at school week after the summer holiday and made up at weekends by sleeping longer. All the students performed better in class during the afternoon than in the morning, observed the researchers who gave them computer and paper and pencil tests. The young people reported being...

...of a percentage point from October. The decrease was the largest slip by Windows in the past two years and easily bested other recent down months, including May 2008 and December 2007, when Windows lost 0.51 and 0.63 percentage points, respectively. Apple Inc.'s Mac OS X, meanwhile, posted its biggest gain in the same two-year period, growing by 0.66 percentage point to end the month at 8.9%. November was the third month running that Apple's operating system remained above 8%. Vince Vizzaccarro, Net Applications' executive vice president of marketing, attributed Windows' slip to some of the same factors he credited with pushing down the market share of Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. "The more home users who are online, using Macs and Firefox and Safari, the more those shares go up," he said. November was notable for a higher-than-average number of weekend days, as well as the Thanksgiving holiday in the U.S., he said. Windows' share typically falls on weekends and after work hours, as users surf from home computers, a larger percentage of which run Mac OS X than do work machines. Notable in Windows' downturn was a dramatic drop in share of the aged Windows XP -- the largest decrease since January 2008 -- and a major uptick in Windows Vista's share. While XP lost 1.81 percentage points, Vista gained back 1.16 points of that, its largest move since last January. Windows 2000, the only other edition that Net Applications tracks,...

...er Easy A Easy A is a movie about a nerdy girl, Olive, who is in high school. She only has few friends, and usually lies to them to get out of hanging out with them on the weekends. She has made up so many lies. One weekend she tells her friend she can’t hang out because she is spending the weekend with a college guy. When she returns to school Monday morning, her friend wants Olive to tell her all about her weekend with the college boy. Just when she thinks she is alone with her friend in the bathroom, Olive makes up her own rumor that she “lost her virginity” to get her friend off her back. Little does she know that the most Christian girl in school was using the restroom and overheard this rumor. Although Olive didn’t really lose her virginity, Marianne, the Christian girl tells everyone in school about this rumor and wants everyone to know how bad of a person Olive is for doing this. It just so happens that during the same week this rumor is going on, the students were learning about the book “The Scarlet Letter” in English class. Everyone starts comparing Olive to the girl in the book because of this rumor. One of Olives guy friends comes to her house one day and asks for Olives help. Everyone in the school thinks that he is gay, and he wants to change this perspective while he is in high school so he doesn’t get harassed. He wants to pay Olive to go on a date with him, but she says no. Instead, she wants to “do it big” and have pretend sex with him. ...

...high school and continuing with my future have made me a stronger individual. It started when I was a young child of my parents getting a divorce. Many kids like me had experienced this. There were thoughts of whom I was going to live with, how it was going to work, and even the thought of having step-parents and siblings. I was so confused and couldn’t quite understand why it was happening and what I was to expect. Although I loved my mom, I was very much a daddy’s girl. When asked whom I would like to live with, it was obvious I chose my dad. There was no arguing or fighting involved, which helped out a lot during the time of this happening. My dad got joint custody of my sister and me and made it to where my mom got us every other weekend. It was definitely a big change, but after awhile it all worked out. After all, who wouldn’t love having two celebrations for each holiday and birthday? It had its ups and downs. I learned that if you got in trouble with dad, run to mom’s house! It was a change, but as I grew older I began to understand why they divorced. My dad got remarried, and being the daddy’s girl that I am, I couldn’t accept the fact that I had to welcome in a new family. It all seemed to happen so fast within the few years that passed. I got accustomed to it eventually, and it has helped me realize that my mom and dad were only trying to do what was best for my sister and me. It’s changed me in a good way to show me that even if things didn’t work out...

...Some like it Hot & Director Billy Wilder Some like it hot is a movie set in the late 1920’s about two broke musicians played by Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon living in Chicago who accidently witness the Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre and need to get far away from the gangsters who want to kill them since they are the only witnesses to the murders. The musicians decide their only chance of survival is to dress up like girls and join an all women’s jazz band en-route to Florida to get away from the mob. During the train ride they meet and get to know the other members of the band especially the main singer, sweet “Sugar Kane” played by the lead actress Marilyn Monroe. The musicians form a little crush on Sugar and all hilarity ensues. The film was made in 1958 for an estimated 2.8 million dollars and since being released on March 29th 1959 has grossed over 25 million in the USA alone and over 8 million in rentals according to IMDB.com. ...need to go outside for many reasons such as, restoring mental energy, stress relief, and improved concentration. This is why I should be able to go outside. Going outside helps restore mental fatigue. The tired feeling many students get near the end of the day is not physical fatigue, it is mental fatigue. “One study found that people's mental energy bounced back even when they just looked at pictures of nature. (Pictures of city scenes had no such effect)”(Business Insider). Being outside will restore the mental energy that has run out during the day. It will help bounce back the energy that has been lost and make us feel better. “Studies show that children who spend time in natural outdoor environments have a reduction in attention fatigue and children diagnosed with ADHD show a reduction in related symptoms” (NYSDEC). Not only does it instantly restore the mental energy lost, but it allows us to continue to be up in...
