On the table of studies, I earned a 90, and this grade is similar to the grade I expected to make. However, I believe that I could have improved my grade. To explain, I did not put the title at the beginning of the study table in proper APA format. If I had proofread carefully, I could have identified and fixed the errors. Moreover, the most challenging part of the tables was the important points from the introduction and discussion sections. I wrote my notes in sentence form rather than note form; therefore, the notes are not as clear and concise as they could be. I found it difficult to accurately summarize the key points of the introduction and discussion in note form. However, being able to take clear and concise notes is an important skill, especially when reviewing and summarizing studies. Because I have various upcoming assignments, such as an undergraduate thesis, I need to improve my note taking abilities. …show more content…
To select the studies, I researched the effects of AAVE on children’s academic performance using the university library’s search tool. However, numerous studies, articles, and reports were identified as matching my search request, and many of the results were irrelevant to my topic. In order to narrow the results, I read the title of the article or study and the subject tags below the title to evaluate the worth of the article. If the article appeared to match my topic, I read the abstract to further evaluate the value of the article to my topic. Through this method, I was able to find four studies and an overview of AAVE in schools that discussed the effect of AAVE on the school performance of children. I believe this strategy for locating articles was efficient and effective because I was able to quickly identify if an article or study would be beneficial to my topic without wasting time reading the full

...APA Lecture Notes Module 1 Writing for the Behavioral and Social Sciences This module will introduce the history of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. It is designed to provide an overview of what the APA is about. This manual may seem complex to the beginning writing student; however, these modules will help break down the text and show students how to use the manual effectively with their writing process. The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association was published in 1929 and has evolved since then as time brought change to the rules of style. The rules of APA Style are developed from an extensive body of psychology literature, from authors and editors who are experienced in scholarly writing, and from recognized authorities on the publication practices. Before beginning the actual writing process, it is important to understand the considerations regarding a writer’s own research and about the scientific publishing tradition. Journal articles usually consist of reports of empirical studies, literature reviews, theoretical articles, methodological articles, or case studies. o o Empirical studies are reports of original research and include the following sequence of sections: introduction, method, results, and discussion. Literature reviews are critical evaluations of material that have been published before. Authors are expected to define and clarify the problem, summarize previous investigations in order to let the reader...
