Administrative Tasks

Author Note This research is being submitted on August 18th, 2013, for N234/CET2810C Section 01 Microsoft Exchange Server course.

Administrative Tasks There are a lot of task and duties to be performed by an Exchange Server administrator. I have put together a few tasks that I feel that an administrator will due throughout his career either during set up or on a daily basis. The first on my list is implementing security, by implementing security I mean keeping all software up to date by running Microsoft update on all servers. Also it is very important to keep all client computers up to date along with all antivirus software and Anti-Spam filters, with the anti-spam filters the administrator would have to manually do by installing content filter updates from Microsoft Update. The administrator would also need to run antivirus software on all mailbox servers and client computers. Second on my list would have to be creating mailboxes. With this task the administrator would have to use the Exchange Management Console (EMC). Make decisions on what kind of mailbox it’s going to be such as a User Mailbox, Room Mailbox, Equipment Mailbox or a Linked Mailbox. Then decide if this is going to be a new email for a new user or a new email for an existing user in Active Directory. Then specify the mailbox database he’s going to use and choose the correct archive settings for the user mailbox. Another task an Exchange Server administrator will find himself doing a lot is monitoring and seeing to that everything is replicating and backing up correctly. Also planning back up procedures, the mailbox server backups are the most important tasks I think the administrator will have to do to regularly to prevent data loss. These are just a few tasks among many I think are required to successfully administer Exchanger Server 2010.
