Many people assume that homeless are there because they are lazy freeloaders and indefinitely homelessness is a choice. In fact that is not the case most causes for homelessness is due to underemployment, unemployment, affordable housing, domestic violence, or rising health care costs. While they rarely admit as much, most people often take for granted the things that they are blessed with and look down upon those who have nothing. According to Alyssa Figueroa, “Nearly 40 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.” Basically, Figueroa is saying that 40 percent of Americans can be homeless within a matter of months after losing their job. Baby, Alyssa Shinn, was an example of this. Alyssa received an overdose of zinc after she was born 14 weeks too early. After being in the hospital for quite some time in neonatal intensive care, Alyssa was making progress and getting healthier day by day. Two other pharmacists failed to double check Goff’s work. The pharmacy technician who had filled the machine should have noticed that putting 48 vials of the medication should have been wrong or off.
