(1). Based on the fact that the company is circulating laid off rumor, it is possible to have potential physical/task stressor, for example, lower back disorder and eyesight. In addition, it will cause the workers to have potential psychological stressors like lacks of predictability, interpersonal conflict, role ambiguity and hindrance-related stressors. Lack of control or predictability will actually make the atmospheres between co-workers become worse just like interpersonal conflict. Then, they will start to have conflicts between each other and will feel that they do not know what behavior should be expected in the workplace, which is role ambiguity. As they continue to have conflicts, it is very easy to involve violence or other abuse that can hurt …show more content…
It is not difficult to imagine that the employees worry about being laid off, they will be absence, lateness, drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse, accidents, violence, poor information processing, poor job performance. These behavioral consequences are caused because they worry about their future. They want to find another job as a safety net, use substances to help them reduce their stress and uncertainty. Because of this, the employees could not perform well and focus on their work. As they continue to think and feel uncontrollably about their life, they will start to have some psychological disorder such as depression and anxiety. These can also lead to other symptoms. For instance, emotional exhaustion, sleep problems, family problems and job dissatisfaction. It is a fact that our mental can easily affect our physiology. Therefore, in an upset, helpless and unpredictable circumstance, there are very likely chances to have a heart attack and digestive problem. We can set up appraisals for supervisors and colleagues and surveys for anonymous to evaluate behavioral, psychological and physiological consequences. A randomly selected sample of 200 employees from private and public banks shows that occupational stress is found higher among private bank employees compared to public bank employees.
