This portfolio project covers four companies from four different sectors, which have their own advantages. The four companies that I choose for this project are Toyota Motor Corporation (-TM-), The Coca-Cola Company (KO), Bank of American Corporation (BAC), and Marriott International, Inc. (MAR). The reason that I choose The Coca-Cola Company (KO) and Marriott International, Inc. (MAR) is these two companies have a stable historical price movement. Stable return of the portfolio is the first goal for all the investors, which can gain a stable profit. ...An artistic movement whose influence on film has been as profound and enduring as that of surrealism or cubism on painting, the French New Wave (or Le Nouvelle Vague) made its first splashes as a movement shot through with youthful exuberance and a brisk reinvigoration of the filmmaking process. Most agree that the French New Wave was at its peak between 1958 and 1964, but it continued to ripple on afterwards, with many of the tendencies and styles introduced by the movement still in practice today… French New Wave The New Wave (French: La Nouvelle Vague) was a blanket term coined by critics for a group of French filmmakers of the late 1950s and 1960s, influenced by Italian Neorealism and classical Hollywood cinema. Although never a formally organized movement, the New Wave filmmakers were linked by their self-conscious rejection of classical cinematic form and their spirit of youthful iconoclasm. "New Wave" is an example of European art cinema. Many also engaged in their work with the social and political upheavals of the era, making their radical experiments with editing, visual style and narrative part of a general break with the conservative paradigm. Using portable equipment and requiring little or no set up time, the New Wave way of filmmaking presented a documentary type style. The films exhibited direct sounds on film stock that required less light. Filming techniques included fragmented, discontinuous editing, and long takes. The combination of objective realism...

...Successful Failure Micheal Stout 4 February, 2015 By and large, the inability to collect, report, process, disseminate, and act upon intelligence gathered by our military forces has been the cause of numerous failures in military operations. Operation Ivory Coast, a daring raid on the prisoner of war (POW) camp Son Tay during the Vietnamese war, was one such operation. Considered by many as a stunning tactical success, this mission was a failure from an intelligence standpoint, and the ultimate goal of the operation, to rescue the POW’s held at Son Tay, was unsuccessful. Operation Ivory Coast Background and Planning In the spring of 1970, intelligence gathered from the United States Air Force through analysis of aerial imagery confirmed the presence of fifty five American POW’s, a handful of which were in a condition requiring urgent rescue, located at a compound near Son Tay, 23 miles west of Hanoi. Planning was finalized in August of 1970 to conduct a raid to rescue the POW’s. It would be a joint effort between Air Force search and rescue teams and Army Special Forces. Col Arthur “Bull” Simons was given command of the ground forces. With just over a hundred service members for the ground force, a mock site was built at Eglin Air Force Base, and the joint force conducted roughly 170 training missions in preparation for the operation. Air Force pilots flew over one thousand hours at different locations in the southeastearn United States, practicing the dissimilar aircraft...

...Energy Solution Faces Economic Obstacles By STANLEY REED Published: November 28, 2012 LONDON — Until last month, the Don Valley Power Project in northeast England looked like a winner. In July it topped a shortlist for a share of as much as €1.5 billion in E.U. funding for innovative low-carbon electricity schemes. But then came a blow. When the British government published its own selection of potential recipients of a slice of £1 billion, or $1.6 billion, in funding in a national competition for carbon capture and storage projects Oct. 30, Don Valley was left off. That means it is not eligible for a share of the E.U. money — equivalent to $2 billion — either. The government is not commenting on why Don Valley lost out, but a key reason appears to be its hefty £5 billion capital cost. Don Valley looked well conceived. The plant would burn coal — normally a huge polluter — but 90 percent of the carbon dioxide would be removed and piped 250 miles, or 400 kilometers, to the North Sea. There the company would inject the gas into two oil fields to assist recovery of oil, helping to offset the expense. But the program cannot go ahead without the support of the British government, the project’s sponsor, 2CO Energy said. Carbon capture and storage could be a boon for the gas and power industry because — if plants could be built economically — it offers a way to use fossil fuels like coal and gas to generate electricity for decades while also meeting greenhouse gas targets...

...PART A - Understanding the wind resource Q1 - Weather and climate [8 marks] a In less than 100 words, explain the difference between how climate and weather influence thewind regime of a given location.[4 marks] Climate is the long-term description of variations of temperature and wind while weather is the short-term description. Climate is classified as the average and typical range of different variables, while weather is the state of atmosphere for day to day. Climate is what you expect, weather is what your get. A designer use climate data to design the capacity of wind farm, actually weather determines the actual power output in a given period. b Consider Fig. 1. This figure is produced by taking a long timeseries of wind speed data fora given location and analysing it to determine what timescales (or frequencies) areassociatedwith the most prominent variations in wind speed. The x-axis measures period (or frequency)and the y-axis measures \Spectral Density", which in this context just means how prominenta given timescale/frequency is in producing variations in wind speed. In 100 words or less explain the shape of the graph. In 50 words or less, explain theimplicationsfor a wind farm operator.[4 marks] The spectrum – frequency diagram measures the variations of wind speed. The peak of the wave indicates a significant change in wind speed over the corresponding time period. The four peaks mean: seasonal wind speed change in a year, wind speed change in few days (4)...

...Hertz Ipo Case Analysis Executive Summary Hertz group had initiated an IPO in July 2006 when Carlyle group, together with Clayton, Dubilier &Rice, and Merril Lynch Global Private equity , three prominent firms had filed to take the firm public. However this action has come just seven months after the three had combined to purchase Hertz from Ford Motor Company for Approx. $15 million. Berg, MD of Vandelay Capital Management debated whether to invest in this IPO.The LBO sponsors had borrowed an additional $1 billion on top of the buyout financing to pay themselves a special dividend in June 2006 , being the biggest reason why the IPO generated widespread criticism along with the speed with which the IPO was conducted . In the face of this criticism, the demand for the Hertz IPO weakened, and the offer price was reduced from the initial file price range of $16-$18 to just $15. Berg must assess whether at $15 per share, Hertz offers an attractive investment for this fund. After detailed analysis on the sponsors' returns on their investment and the attractiveness of the $15 offer price to public shareholders, along with the circumstances surrounding the IPO, it was concluded and advised not to invest. Reasons behind the IPO One of the obvious reasons behind the IPO was Hertz’s strong brand equity that gave it strong pricing power since it was ranked as the top worldwide general use car rental brand and one of the largest rental companies in the U.S and Canadian markets...

...1. Describe the different approaches to waging war of Grant and McClellan, utilizing Grant's campaign in the West and McClellan's maneuvers in Virginia. During the American Civil War, leadership within the Union’s army was constantly an issue. Within the Union, various generals were found at times to be at odds with the political leaders in Washington. This was especially evident in the relationship between General George McClellan and President Lincoln. This tension was the result of McClellan’s approach to waging war. By examining the differing approaches to waging war of U.S. Grant and George B. McClellan one can gain a better appreciation for the decision making that was necessary by leaders like Lincoln, in selecting military generals who could effectively wage war to defeat the Confederacy. By all accounts, George B. McClellan had the makings of a great general. Graduating second in his class at West Point in 1842, he served under General Winfield Scott in the Mexican War. (McPherson, 1988, p. 4) He also served with distinction early in the war by assuring that Kentucky and the region that would become West Virginia, remained out of Confederate control. (McPherson, 1988, pp. 299-301) After the Union loss at the First Battle of Bull Run, McClellan was named commander of the Army of the Potomac, and by November 1861, he was the General-in-Chief of all Federal forces. (McPherson, 1988, pp. 348-350) McClellan’s approach to waging war was one of the cautious tactician...
