This is not the dumbest generation. Things are just a lot different than they were a few decades ago. The world today is moving at a much faster pace than it ever was. This generation is not many dumber than any other generation that came before it. Technology has become a necessity in our everyday live. Mark Bauerlein, writer of the novel “The Dumbest Generation” refers to the population of people 30 years or younger to be the dumbest. What is considered important to know and what is thought to be irrelevant is always changing.
First, (Bauerlein) states that this generation has a decline in intellectual habits. But this generation is only taking advantage of the new technologies we now have and using them to their full potential. Making something

Analysis: The Dumbest Generation

...the under-thirty generation really the dumbest generation? This question is debated among numerous of sources such as Mark Bauerlein’s The Dumbest Generation and Nicholas Carr’s “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” The criteria for intelligence is considerably large, but sources’ arguments mostly align by the idea of common knowledge, necessary life skills, and literacy as the main criteria. To an extent, the claim of the under-thirty generation being the dumbest is true with the inadequacy in some life skills and common knowledge, but it is wrong due to the general rise in literacy and intelligence quotient among the under-thirty generation. According to the older generations, the under-thirty generation lacks to the necessary common knowledge...

Digital Media

...Digital Media: A Better Way to Learn Educators and parents have legitimate concerns about the effects of the Digital Age on learning. Digital media has changed dramatically since the development of the Internet and improvement of wireless technology. John Palfrey, Professor of Law and Urs Gasser, Executive Director of the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, both employed by the prestigious Harvard Law School, have written about how the world has been reshaped because of this new digital world in Born Digital. They found that this period “is the most rapid period of technological transformation ever, at least, when it comes to information” (3). This transformation of digital media over the last twenty-five years and the introduction of tools like the iPad create a clutter of information that threaten the ability to think deeply and concentrate, which has made the current educational system obsolete and ineffective. This same technology can be utilized to create the school of the future, by improving learning in the Digital Age. Digital natives, ”born after 1980,” do not know the world without the Internet, cell phones, computers, tablets and everything else that networked digital technology has provided (Palfrey 1). They “study, work, write and interact with each other in ways that are very different from the ways” their parents and grandparents grew up. (Palfrey 2). Palfrey and Gasser found that digital natives are comfortable with this new technology and experts...

Millennials in the Workplace.

...Boomers and some of the issues that organisations face in their efforts to effectively combine this generation into the existing workforce. The overall structure of the essay will follow in such an order where by it will start with the brief overall definition of Millennials and Baby Boomers for a clearer picture, followed by mentioning some of the defining characteristics of how Millennials behave in workplaces and the implications of it for Human Resource Managers. Lastly, this essay will conclude by reinforcing the stand that Millennials should be managed differently with the main points of argument highlighted as well as the future directions that HR managers can look to. 1.1. Millennials versus Baby Boomers To understand the significance of Millennials in the workplace, it is important to first define Millennials and its characteristics. The term ‘Millennials’ or more commonly known as Generation Y, is defined as any individual born after 1981 (Leyden et al., 2007). Other terms which refer to the same cohort include, Nexters, Echo Boomers, Baby Boomblet, Generation Why, and the Digital Generation (Belkin, 2007)(Chester, 2001)(Martin and Tulgan, 2006)(McDonnell, 2006). On the other hand, a Baby Boomer is defined as any individual “born between 1946 and 1964” (Kupperschmidt, 2000). To borrow the explanation for the term Baby Boomers, Kupperschmidt stated that, the “generation is referred to as baby boomers because of the...

Retrieved [date] from http://edrev.asu.edu/essays/v10n6index.html. Abstract I review the book IQ and the Wealth of Nations, written by Richard Lynn and Tatu Vanhanen. I critique the authors’ major assertion that a significant part of the gap between rich and poor countries is due to differences in national intelligence. The authors claim that they have evidence that differences in national IQ account for substantial variation in per capita income and growth of a nation. This essay review debunks their assumptions that intellectual and income differences between nations stem from genetic differences. This critique provides an extended review of the research literature that argues against these assumptions and presents a different picture from that presented by Lynn and Vanhanen about the concept of intelligence, what IQ measures and does not measure. The essay exposes the racist, sexist, and antihuman nature of the research tradition in which the authors anchored their studies and the deep methodological flaws and theoretical assumptions that appear in their book. The low standards of scholarship...
