Segregation had taken up most of America including Little Rock, Arkansas. Everything was segregated to water fountains to schools and even in buses. Segregationist fought back not only in courtrooms but on the streets, hurting and even killing African Americans and others supporters who spoke up for equality, from “On the Front Lines”. ...Annotated Bibliography Annotated Bibliography Jones-White, D., Radcliffe, P., Huesman, R., & Kellogg, J. (2010). Redefining Student Success: Applying Different Multinomial Regression Techniques for the Study of Student Graduation Across Institutions of Higher Education. Research in Higher Education 51(2),154-174. doi: 10.1007/s11162-009-9149-4. Associates with Research in Higher Education conducted a study in collaboration with the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) to test a hypothesis that higher education degree attainment was based on many factors beyond the institution where the program originated, the primary category assessed by the Student Right to Know Act (SRK). Conducting their study over a six-year period, with the help of the NSC database and its 93 million student records, the researchers found that demographics, pervious academic ability, social integration, financial contribution, and gender all strongly affected student persistence. The singular focus of assessing degree attainment based solely on the originating institution was thusly challenged. The data supported a similar finding by the Higher Education Research Institute whose 2005 study indicated race, gender and type of learning institution were all contributing factors for degree attainment (Astin & Oseguera, 2005). Evaluating collective data, it appears multiple factors must be assessed to determine graduation attainment for students in higher learning institutes. Evaluating...

...Joseph Watts EN1420 Raspante May 6, 2013 Annotated Bibliography Mackenzie, M. H. (2012). Let Women Fight. Foreign Affairs, 91(6), 32-42. An essay is presented on women serving in direct combat roles in the U.S. military. The author presents a case for changing U.S. law to permit women in all military roles. She notes that many women have served in the U.S. military, including in war zones, and says that the distinction between combat and non-combat roles has eroded in the context of contemporary warfare. She discusses the main arguments against women in combat, including their performance and effect on unit cohesion. Author Megan Mckenzie, in the article, “Let Women Fight,” from the journal Foreign Affairs, discusses the ability of women to serve in full combat units. She is avid about changing the laws to allow women full integration into combat infantry units, due to the history of women serving in combat roles in the U.S. Military (McKenzie 2012). McKenzie, argues that the lines that once existed, dividing combat roles from non-combat roles, in the U.S. Military has become blurred with today’s combat (McKenzie 2012). Due to this phenomenon, women have found themselves in the heat of combat, making them natural candidates for the allowance of women to fulfill these roles on a more permanent basis (McKenzie 2012). Simons, A. (2000). Women Can Never `Belong' in Combat. Orbis, 44(3), 451. Presents views on the debate over the exclusion laws in the United States which...

It is our hope that this information will be used to improve legal outcomes for juvenile sex offenders, and uphold the purpose of the juvenile justice system as a rehabilitative, not punitive, system.
