There are many different techniques used to elicit information from people. Some people in captivity get interrogated, others get threated or inflicted with severe pain, and in extreme cases some people do get tortured. Although torture is illegal throughout the world, its practice is far from uncommon. By definition, torture is the act of causing severe physical pain as a form of punishment or as a way to force someone to do or say something. Torture became a big topic of discussion when it became known that the United States were using “waterboarding” as a form of interrogation in order to get answers and information from suspected terrorists after the attacks on September 11, 2001.
