Genetic testing a medical test carried out to identify changes within genes, proteins or chromosomes. Genetic testing is done on participants who are known to be at risk or a particular genetic condition or disease. This information can be seen within an individual’s family history. This test is useful to determine the change people passing on or developing a genetic disorder. Genetic testing is voluntary. The three main types of genetic testing include; Molecular genetic tests, chromosomal genetic tests and biochemical genetic tests.
Genetic screening is a test carried out primarily on unborn children (embryos) to identify a current genetic disease or early detection of a genetic disease. This test is available to a transection of people …show more content…
Genetic screening, one of its many uses includes its primary use of screening embryos. Through a screening it can be identified whether the child is, healthy of has a genetic disease. In many cases where the embryo has a genetic disease the parents decide to get an abortion. Personally, I think this is the right decision as you would only ant the best life for your child and would not what them struggling through life with everyday tasks. I am able to see the opposing argument of it is still killing a living thing, however in the end it is assisting their child by them not having to suffer through a miserable, problematic and most cases short-lived …show more content…
New Technology, allowing a three-parent baby to be born without serious genetic defects.
The new technology is called Mitochondrial genome replacement. Which combines DNA of a couple incapable of producing a healthy child of their own- with a female donor egg. The donors eggs accounts for less than 1% of the child’s DNA.
Mitochondria DNA is inherited only for the mother. Abnormalities in this DNA can cause the serious problem for the child. The abnormal DNA affects the heart, nervous system and may cause epilepsy, blindness, deafness and a form of mental deficiency in severe cases it affects numerous organs leading to early death.
This new technology aims to solve this problem by combining the DNA of a woman who is at risk with a donors healthy mitochondrial.
