The Director’s Council Gallery is a room that consists of the most elaborate abstract art, including two pieces by Morris Louis titled Dalet Kaf and Beta Mu. Dalet Kaf is made from acrylic resin (magna) on canvas and takes up the entire wall of which it is hung, as it is about one hundred inches tall and nearly one hundred and fifty inches wide. The wide range of colors which seem to flow from side to side, is what makes this piece so inviting to the eyes. The piece consists of lines of dark borders that are enlightened by bright rays of color, which makes this piece hang ostentatiously drawing the viewer in. The way the bright colors seem to push the dark colors to the outside of the piece creates the illusion of a flower blossoming in the spring, pushing the sun worn pedals outward, displaying a radiant glow from within. Beta Mu, another large painting by Morris Louis that inhabits the entire wall from which it hangs, with an alarming one hundred inch length by over a one hundred and fifty inch width, is almost the opposite of Dalet Kaf. Beta Mu is made up almost entirely of a bare white canvas, aside from thin vertical and horizontal lines that make up the side of the canvas and vary from dark and light hues. What might pique someone’s curiosity in this piece is the way that it is formed completely contradictory of Louis’ other work of art. If I were asked to curate a show consisting of four works of art from The Modern, I would select Cy Twombly’s Untitled Rome piece, Richard Serra’s Vortex, Michelangelo Pistolettos’s The Entruscan, and Roxy Paine’s Conjoined. The unifying factor of these pieces that fascinates me the most is the unification in them itself. Each piece ties in so well with the architecture of the building, as if the Museum were created for the pieces. Each piece seems to have reflective qualities and in different ways conjoin together to form unity which is why I would call this show “The Art of Coming Together”. Untitled Rome is made up of what appears to be two solid concrete figures that push away from each other at the top, but conjoin at the bottom, with no space between as if they were welded together for eternity. Vortex, made up of a copper toned Corten steel, stands over sixty seven feet tall outside of the museum. This piece has four steel figures that all stand apart at the bottom, but seem to be drawn together at the top by some force. The Etruscan is a bronze statue of a man looking into a mirror, reaching forward as if he is seeking to be one with his reflection. Conjoined is a piece made up of two stainless steel trees standing side by side, whose branches spread throughout and combine together in the open space between, as if they are two magnets being pulled together by a compelling

The dominant paradigm in most traditional art museums was the display of Great Works, aesthetic objects existing outside of time and space for the museumgoer's pure contemplation. Since such works were universal in their artistic appeal, they were expected to reach across barriers of time and space to speak to the patron's sensibilities. While they both specialize in art they both have drastically different web appearances. The atmosphere of these two sites is in contrast. These two websites do not compete for the same viewers. Different art venues are posted, along with information and history of the art piece and pictures posted of the piece. The Smithsonian is located in Washington, D.C. The Met museum is located New York. Not everyone has the opportunity to visit these two museums, so having an on-line presence is essential to keeping the education alive. ...Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit the Getty Center in Los Angeles for the first time. It was an incredible place and experience. The museum is isolated from the city, located at the very top of a mountain surrounded by breath taking panoramic views. The architecture of the Getty is very contemporary designed by Richard Meier. Many types of art, even if from different eras, can be not only different but also very similar. By going to a museum and learning about all the different types of art, you realize how different pieces of art can have a lot in common. I decided to visit both the Getty Villa and the Getty center museums to learn more about the artwork that we learned about in class. I went to the Getty Villa to find my work of art during the Neolithic era and I went to the Getty Center to find art from the Roman Imperial era.
