St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals mission statement
“The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay.”
Business Strategy and Global Competitiveness Plan.
Located in the heart of Memphis Tennessee is an internationally recognized not-for-profit hospital that is known for pioneering research for finding cures and saving children with catastrophic diseases and cancer. They treat patients from around the world in all 50 states, never requiring families to pay for treatment that isn’t covered by their insurance and with regard to their ability to pay. St. Jude is currently ranked number one in Children’s Hospitals for the cancer care and is the first and only pediatric cancer center selected by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 2010)
The Board of Directors and Governors for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are responsible for establishing the objectives and policies. They select, appoint, support and review the performance of the Chief Executive Officers, approve annual budgets, strategic planning, accounting, ethics and compliance, insuring the availability of adequate financial resources and compliance, and performance of the organizations (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 2010).
The middle tier of their operations consists of the Chief Executive Officers, the Executive Committee and the Senior Management Team who oversee the operating core. The heart of St. Jude and their operation are the physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, certified nursing assistants (CNA’s), psychologists, child life specialists and families who work together to offer suitable family-centered care. The principal fundraising organization ALSAC, the environmental service employees, the administrative group, the cafeteria, and the public relations department have advocated the endeavors for the ALSAC fundraising, the Ronald McDonald houses, the Target and the Grizzly, staff, volunteers, legal and ethical committees help throughout the hospital. This techno-structure consists of a specifically named Adjunct Faculty and Faculty who standardize research in partnership with attention given to patients. There is also an outside counseling board that ensures that protocols are standardized and ensures they are straightforward and stated clearly to be disclosed worldwide. This large techno-structure of employees that work throughout the hospital to standardize the care with concern to each patient in the research studies.
Any abnormalities from standardized care are supported through the research performed on the St. Jude site. For this reason, St, Jude is classified as a Machine Bureaucracy whose elements are compelling in their performance and sanctioning regarding the campus.

SWOT Analysis
There are a number of strengths and weaknesses that provide chances for both threats and opportunities to be seen. St. Jude is strong in their social following and familiarity in general. There are a variety of emotional stories that can be used in their marketing efforts. The greatest weakness for St. Jude is that their target market, teens, don’t really know who they are. There are some great opportunities in the digital atmosphere that is untouched. The greatest threat to St. Jude is their competitors and empathy exhaustion of their donors. (Armitage, T. J. (2014, May).

Assessment
St. Jude is “dedicated to providing the best care for our patients”. To achieve this, it is important for them to be on the cutting edge of the latest research and medicine to help in the fight against life-threatening pediatric diseases, like cancer, while delivering families from the weight of the costs for these life-saving healthcare costs. (Our unique operating model. (n.d.).
Strategy formulation, implementation and monitoring
It is important for St. Jude to plan for the needs of today and tomorrow. They must do this even when there are instabilities in the economy and to accomplish this, they need to maintain a reserve fund. This reserve fund is comprised of restricted funds that cannot be used and are legally required according to unrestricted funds and donor stipulations. Unrestricted funds are used in times of economic pressure, which ensure that St. Jude can meet the operating costs for the hospital for up to 1.5 years. (Our unique operating model. (n.d.).
With the availability of the funds, St. Jude can embark on a collaboration with Washington University in St. Louis in an impressive research effort on the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project which will ultimately change our treatment, understanding and diagnosis of cancer. The treatments invented by St. Jude have increased the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% in 1962 to more than 80% today.
St. Jude holds their patients, families and donors in high regard and this enables them to stand by their Mission. St. Jude has outlined a specific set of values and standards that guides their decisions and daily actions. To guarantee loyalty, St. Jude provides ongoing training and evaluations. Their standards consist of: providing supportive family centered care, high quality medical treatment, respect of ethical, cultural, religious and lifestyle differences, uphold a culture of excellence, innovation and creativity in all they do. They continue to maintain an environment of success, honesty, accountability, trust, teamwork and respect. By continuing to adhere to their Mission, values and vision there is an increase in the survival rate of all pediatric cancers, high quality care, and cancer care, meeting the established financial obligations and continued rating as the number one hospital for pediatric cancer care. Since the hospitals inception, these values have remained extremely important and remain so as more patients enter their hospital doors who have maxed out their lifetime insurance caps, or lack the finances to pay for the endless hospital bills. (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 2010).
Board of Directors

(Boards of Directors and Governors. (n.d.)).
Organizational Business Structure

(CCSS Organizational Structure. (n.d.)).
Ethical Issues and Recommended Preventative Measures
St. Jude is well known as a leading pediatric oncological research institution. They provide excellent care and meet the needs of the children who come to their hospitals. Regrettably, the internal politics are negatively impacting the atmosphere at St. Jude. The egos of the doctors and private investigators often clash with the development of improved medical practices and the science of research projects. The HR department is subject to the whims of upper management and their only real function is to protect the image of the institution. St. Jude receives a large part of their donations from the association with Hollywood stars and there is a perception that this association is the most important thing to the management team. There are ethical questions about how the money is being used by directors, management and the private investigators. It is recommended that St. Jude return to the foundational purpose of the institution and focus on improving the quality of care given to their patients who come to them with catastrophic diseases as well as, improve the working environment for their employees. Happy and motivated employees will improve the research results in a shorter window of time and if there were cross training done, it would enable employees the opportunity to advance and move within the organization. Also, efficiently investing the money being donated back into the hospital instead of it being used for the personal wants of management is critical. (2008, June 11).

LInux and the CLI

...discussed as factors in your decision. Formatting using the CLI, while works fine for simple forms, is too limiting for complex documents. We have not gotten far enough to input things like pictures/graphs/diagrams ect, but when using a GUI I know from personal use that it is relatively simple. I will say, however, that when dealing with formatting from version to version of a program (lets say from a .doc to a .docx) can be frustrating. I have had times that there was no way that the file could be fixed, and that I had to make a whole new document, because the newer program would just not accept the old file in its original format. This is an advantage when using the CLI. .txt is .txt no mater what program it was created on, or platform that you were using. This is a HUGE advantage that using the CLI has over the GUI. If I am using Open Office on a Linux system to create a document, and then you want to open that same document using Microsoft Word on a Windows system there are huge problems in the “conversion” process. Even if you save said file using Open Office as a .doc file, when opening with Word, Its just not right. I think we have all ran into this issue, and it can be vexing. So I think that using the CLI to create and manipulate files is, overall, more efficient; we will always be visual beings and want to have our pretty buttons to...

Chapter 9 Law Paper

...Facts: Oklahoma State University provided Professor Eric Angevine with a computer linked to the university network, and through it to the Internet. Angevine used this computer to download over 3,000 pornographic images of young boys. After viewing the images and printing some of them, he deleted the files. Tipped off by Professor Angevine’s wife, police officers seized the computer and turned it over to a police computer expert who retrieved the pornographic files that the professor had deleted. The Oklahoma State University computer policy states that: The contents of all storage media owned or stored on University computing facilities are the property of the University. Employees cannot use University computers to access obscene material. The University reserves the right to view or scan any file or software stored on a computer or passing through the network, and will do so periodically to audit the use of University resources. The University cannot guarantee confidentiality of stored data. System administrators keep logs of file names, which may indicate why a particular data file is being erased, when it was erased, and what user identification has erased it. The trial court held that federal agents did not need a warrant to search Professor Angevine’s office computer because he had no expectation of privacy. The judge sentenced him to fifty-one months in prison for “knowing possession of child pornography.” The professor appealed. Issue: Did Professor...
