The site’s organization constituted of a central office headed by the Chief Project Officer. The central office consisted of a planning team with one chief planning manager and 4 assistants working with him, an accounting team and one administration personnel. The project, being of very high value, was divided into four packages, each headed by a Project Manager. The CPO (Chief Project officer) who shared an excellent rapport with all the four project manager has just resigned from his post and a new person has been posted in his place. This new CPO carried with him, an image of being a “theory x” type of leader. He was portrayed, by his previous team, as one of the typical “psycho” bosses who didn’t have any accord to the personal emotions of the team working under him.

...delivery methods such as On-line Learning (OL). The result is that many institutions of higher learning have adopted on-line education as the next logical step in educational delivery systems. These systems are being promoted as the educational pedagogy of the future. Some experts have gone as far as to predict that the "residential based model," that is, students attending classes at prearranged times and locations will disappear in the near future (Blustain, Goldstein, & Lozier 1999; Drucker 1997). However, one overriding question that must be addressed is how will these new educational delivery approaches that move away from the basic face to face relationship between a professor and students impact student learning and student perceptions of learning. Online learning can be defined as an approach that utilizes Internet technologies to communicate and collaborate in an educational context. This includes technology that supplements traditional classroom training with web-based components and learning environments where the educational process is experienced online. OL is a form of education that is conducted through indirect student teacher interaction and independent study via a variety of media. OL course can be carried out by mail, radio, television and –increasingly nowadays – by way of online learning over the internet. OL is becoming more common with...

For example, when one meets a Muslim person, or sees someone dressed as a Muslim on a flight, one automatically perceives him/her to be a terrorist, and is suspicious or unreasonably “sure” that the Muslim person intends blowing up the plane. The negative perception was based purely on perception of the Muslim person‟s religious belief, and not by knowing the person personally etc., thus stereotyping deals with ill-informed description of people whilst prejudice is based on unjustifiable feelings towards someone. Social conflicts can be generated by racism, prejudice, and stereotyping; therefore efforts need to be made to reduce racist tendencies and prejudice in order to correct stereotyping. Ways of achieving this include more awareness education, and contact between the stereotyped and those who form stereotypes, as well as the accurate portrayal of individuals and groups in literature. ii) Stereotypes Stereotyping takes place when we conjure mental categories where one deposits people, items or events into conceptually specified groups. Stereotypes are formed as a result of the overload of experiences we have, and...

Sensation, Perception, and Attention

...Sensation, Perception, and Attention Outline Mary Bazile Psychology/300 October 6, 2013 Carlton Bowden Explanation of Sensation, Perception, and Attention The recommendations for the authority sensations, perceptive, and attention to learning would be like if a person would sit down to study, the person would not be bother by the distracting environmental stimuli. Why? Because some people and certain other people cannot lie in the difference of ability to focus and control each other attention toward their own perceptive processes derived from sensations. A report says that (Kowalski & Westen, 2009) acknowledges that the human sensory systems, visual, auditory, olfactory, gustatory, touch, proprioceptive, vestibular, and kinesthetic all specialized cells that respond to environmental stimuli called sensory. A short term for olfactory is small. The term for gustatory is taste. An example for touch is pain. Proprioceptive is sensory information about body’s position and movement. Vestibular is sensory information on position of body in space by sensing gravity and movement. Kinesthetic is a sensory information about movement and position of limbs and other parts of the body relative to one another. All the words are transformed...

How Team Leaders Show Support–or Not

...more deeply into the different types of leader behaviors that appeared, and to look at how those specific behaviors influenced people's perceptions of leader support and, ultimately, their creativity. What do leaders do to make employees in creative functions feel supported or not? That was one of the research questions posed by Harvard Business School professor Teresa Amabile and colleagues in what has turned into a penetrating study of creativity in organizations. By analyzing nearly 12,000 daily diary entries from employees working on creative projects—everything from making a new high-strength fabric to developing a database for a global hotel chain—they were able to chart how and why team leaders have enormous impact, positive or negative, on creativity. Amabile et al.'s findings were published in the February issue of The Leadership Quarterly as "Leader Behaviors and the Work Environment for Creativity: Perceived Leader Support." Amabile, an influential scholar on creativity, conducted the research with Elizabeth A. Schatzel, Giovanni B. Moneta, and Steven J. Kramer. She recently discussed their findings with HBS Working Knowledge. Q: You make the point that you see "support" as not just emotional encouragement but also practical help in solving problems. Why do employees' perceptions of a leader's support or lack thereof make a difference in their creativity? A: We found that employees' perceptions of team leader support were more...

Leadership Styles

...Running head: ASSIGNMENT 1 1 Leadership Style: Lieutenant Colonel Daniels Daniel’s leadership style can be summarized as either directive, or production/management. He demonstrates high direction, but low support towards his subordinates. Daniel’s priority is completion of the task requirement and little acknowledgement towards consideration for his followers. He also falls within the third tier within Maxwell’s leadership pyramid, which is production or the level of results (Maxwell, 2013). Daniels is noted for his accomplishments and contribution to the project. The issues are his main focus and he easily leads to resolution, but there is a tampering off for execution. Several traits contribute to characterizing Daniels’s leadership style. His love of problem solving and servant to society’s needs classifies him within the Myers-Briggs indicator as INTP. Part of Daniel’s personality is overall introvert intuition (IN); an abstract, creative thinker that perceives and understands the future possibilities (Owens, 2014). This is evident when he put together a “think tank” to brainstorm all the possible outcomes related to the evacuation. The IN aspect means that Daniel works by gaining insight into not just how things will happen, but the significance and meaning behind the results. Another example is when Daniel recognized that the women and children have more “unique requirements” and integrated female soldiers in response. The positive property of the IN...
