Interviewee: Nathanael Nova
Question 1 : * What inspired you to become a U.S. citizen?
Nathanael : I was inspired to become a US citizen because of the freedom that the united states offer. Also , because I would get a lot of benefits of going to college , having a right to vote and for me and my wife , Cassandra De Luna , can raise our family here and they can have the freedom we always wanted them to have .
Question 2 : * What steps did you have to take as part of the naturalization process?
Nathanael: First step I took was to fill out personal information filing to be an American citizen, then sending it to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration office. I waited about 3 months. Meanwhile, I studied the history of America so that I could learn the history and aspects of the US government. Then, they sent me a letter in the mail containing an appointment. They made me take a written test on civics, asked me a couple of questions about American history and offered me a chance to choose an alternative name, and they made me take an oath. I was also expected to speak , read and write English and know all rights and responsibilities of citizens. After the interview, they made me wait outside for my results and then they told me whether I passed or not. I passed so they sent me another letter in the mail with information for a ceremony. At the ceremony, they gave me my citizenship papers. Then, I called the passport agency to set an appointment to change my foreign passport to a U.S. passport. Then, they gave me an appointment to pick up my U.S passport.
Question 3: * How would you describe how you felt about the process?
Nathanael: The process was really tiring and tedious but well worth it because at the end of it all I can truly say I'm an American citizen.
Question 4: * How has gaining citizenship changed your life? Is your daily life different because of gaining citizenship?
Nathanael : Citizenship has changed my prospective of many things in life. I have learned to appreciate everything I have in life now because where I'm from people pass away everyday from fatal tragedies happening hourly , and you can never know what might happen to your valuables. So America has given me a chance to live my life the way I please and having freedom to do so .
Question 5 & 6 * Do you feel the process was worthwhile? Do you feel the process was worthwhile?
Nathanael : Although it was along stressful process it was worth awhile. I would do it a million times if I had to. Citizenship in the united states has opened up many doors and many possibilities in life so I can dream big .
Question 7 : * Can you imagine what your life would be like if you stayed In Honduras ?
Nathanael: I Definitely would not be as happy as I am now.it was very difficult making a living back in my hometown.i would not have a job that supports me and my family like I do now in the united states.
Write a two-paragraph reflection of the naturalization process.
If you want to become a U.S citizen, You have to go through the naturalization process . During this process you have to pay fees , give fingerprints , pay for services , answer questions and many other things. This process can be very long but worth it if you want to become an American citizen.
I believe that the procedure to becoming an American citizen is very well executed . The steps that you have to take are very well necessary. Although it seems like a lot, it does not include any type of discrimination against anyone. The benefits of becoming a citizen outweighs the fact that it can take years to complete. The benefits of becoming a citizen include voting, eligibility for government jobs and elected positions, and great eligibility for public benefits .
