My daily role and tasks alternated between two departments; I was both a Nesbitt Burns Administrator, and a Personal and Commercial Administrator.
In my daily tasks, I utilized my keen attention to detail to maintain the filing system, specifically through accurate records and reporting discrepancies in client documentation. One challenge was to host a game booth at a night market to fundraise for local charities. Under a tight $100 budget, I developed a business plan and understood the importance of planning and flexibility. From gathering prizes, setting up the booth, to running the games, I showed leadership as the accountant of the team. I became more adaptable as I recognized the difference between our planning and actual operation of our business. When we saw our booth was not running profitably, I proposed new strategies and incentives, such as offering group deals. I realized my leadership qualities were essential to the project’s success, especially in leading the team in gathering ideas, planning a filming schedule, and delegating tasks. Also, when speakers from the City of Toronto came to introduce their 20-year Parks and Recreation Facilities Master Plan, I demonstrated critical thinking when brainstorming ideas on building accessible recreation facilities including the ice rinks, weight rooms, and sports fields.
