Bag Day Assignment
1.
These goggles represent my love for swimming. Ever since I was little, my parents pushed me into all these lessons and as the weeks, months, and years went by, I grew a passion for the sport and have been practicing it ever since. A map, for me, symbolizes my hobby of traveling. Ever since I drove to Texas from California when I was 11, I grew interested in seeing all the views, attractions, the horizons, and I also love the rush of adventure. My lovely couch basically sums up my personality. I am one of those go-with-theflow kind of people. I try not to stress, and just do what person would do at home on a couch, sit back and relax. A bell, represents my talent for music. I began to play piano when I was little, then started violin and the guitar a few years later on. My last and final object I would use to tell about my personality is a recording device. I have a pretty good long term memory, some even when I was in the Philippines. Listening to people is also a skill that I have, meaning I can give advice, and give an honest input on things. 2. Being able to communicate with people plays a crucial part in a person’s life. We cannot be successful in what we do if we lack the ability to communicate with others. Being a good communicator does not only mean you have to be able to speak “well”. Speak with clarity and articulation, while still maintaing good eye contact. No one wants to be the person at school or work who no one can quite understand because they talk to fast or too slow. A big part of being able to interact is to also take notice of what your peers say. You cannot maintain a flowing conversation if you’re tuned-out on what your peers are saying. 3. I’m not very fond of public speaking in general because it makes me nervous thinking about all those people in the audience looking at me. At times I would avoid eye contact, but I also know that it is a very important part in public speaking. I have a fear of my voice cracking in a middle of a speech. It has happened to me before in the very end and it is not a lovely sound, trust me. This particular “problem”, sometimes I don’t even realize it’s happening until the very end of the speech. I tend to rush, or speed up the sentences on the paper, thinking I should just get over the whole thing. Just before I’m about to give a speech, I panic really bad, my hands start sweating, and I suddenly think of the worst possible thing that could happen during my oration. 4. In this first semester, I have a goal of getting over my phobia of public speaking. When I speak to an audience, my ears usually turn red, and I tend to fidget a lot. It’s an uncontrollable habit. I understand that being able to communicate can benefit a person in a lot of ways. I want to be able to use the skills that I will learn this year to be able to make new friends, and cooperate in group projects. Not only those, but the skill will definitely assist you in the future, whether it is applying for college, a job, or just being able to communicate well with your co-workers.
