...adventure because I will get to see the whole meaning right in front of my eyes. I will learn that the meaning to life had to do with the relationships I made with people and how I treated them along the journey. Saint Peter will judge us at the gates of heaven and we will see our life pass before us. Death will come as a surprise to most, which makes it hard to deal with. But for some, people will know when they are going to die which will make it easier to handle because they can say their goodbyes to everyone before the person who is going to die takes their final breathe of life. Death is going to be hard for me to comprehend with because I hate the fact that I am going to have to leave this life behind me. I live such a good life, and when it comes done to judgment time, I really want to get into heaven. I will look back on my life and hopefully be satisfied when I take that final breathe and keep my eyes open for the final time. I want to be able to do things that I have always wanted to do, like travel the world and make a family. I don't want to live a meaningless life that was no final answer in the end. That's why we die, because each one of our lives is going to have a final answer in the end that tells us why we were set on this earth in the first place. I do not want death to hurt because I don't believe that pain should be inflicted on any human being in the world. As long as death isn't painful for me I believe that it will be ok for me. I want to live a long life...

...Diagnostic Essay- Literacy Narrative How many people have thought about their answer to the question of what they want to do before they die? After watching Candy Chang’s Ted Talk, I started thinking about my goals before I die. I decided that my main goal before I die is to take a trip to a warm, tropical place with the people I love. One of the main aspects of this trip would be the people I choose to spend the time with. For example, I would mainly want my family there, including my parents, sister, and cousin. My parents played an important role in this trip since they have been very supportive and helpful throughout my life. Then, I would also invite my friends who have been by my side throughout the years. I believe that it is important...

...eyes looked at the autumn leaves and the red scarf she bought danced in the warm wind. “Wh-What!?” I asked, not sure I heard her right, or expecting her to smirk and tell me that she wanted to see my reaction. I would give her a thorough beating if that was the case. Death was not something to joke about. She finally looked at me, really looked at me, she was serious. “Rowyn, I’m dying.” Those words stabbed me, they pierced through all my defences that no enemy had been able to bypass before. “You-you can’t just joke like that Aeryn,” I gave a weak laugh, that caught in my throat. “You seem perfectly fine to me.” I was so panicky I smiled. She...

...virus. When you look at these factors one would have to ask themselves, even though it is properly regulated, should euthanasia be legalized or not because everyone has the right to die, it has been proven to saves lives, and has been known to encourage vulnerable people to end their lives. First, should euthanasia be legalized or not because everyone has the right to die. There was a story that I read about a guy’s grandmother was suffering from advanced heart disease and during surgery she acquired a bacterial infection, and ended up to where she could not take care of herself. She ultimately did not want to live anymore. Matthew Hayes went on to say that to his grandmother “Life was not worth living, she told me, without autonomy. She wanted to die happy and with some dignity left” (Hayes, 2014). Since she could not end her life legally in New York, she went on to suffer for two years before finally dying a slow and painful death. Oregon passed a law in 1997 called the Death with Dignity act, where “this would allow which allows terminally-ill patients to end their lives through the voluntary self-administration of lethal medications, expressly prescribed by a physician for that purpose” (Death with Dignity Act). I feel like I stated everyone has the right to die, and with the above story, I would want to end my life as well. There is no since in someone having to suffer so much and...

...from a life threatening or terminal disease are not. Euthanasia is currently only allowed in the state of Oregon through the Death with Dignity Act that was placed in 1997 and in four other states as well as three countries. Since that act, only 752 of the 1173 patients actually carried on to kill themselves. An article written by Ryan Wallace on October 7, 2014 titled “One Woman's Quest to Die with Dignity—and What It Means for Us All” is about a 29 year old woman named Brittany Maynard who has been diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma multiform, which is a fast-growing brain cancer that kills its victims. She is one of many that are in favor of assisted-suicide due to her illness. Maynard moved to Portland, Oregon where she would be able to end her life legally thru the Oregon’s Death with Dignity Act (DWDA). Those who are advocates don’t believe it is considered suicide because “aid in dying involves mentally competent people who are terminally ill but would love to live, if possible.” Maynard said herself that “there is not a cell in my body that is suicidal or that wants to die” but she wishes there was a cure. Terminally ill people are given a dignified way to exit life thru assisted-death. In “Joni Eareckson Tada to Brittany Maynard: God alone chooses the day you...

...suicide. I have never been suicidal. Even in your darkest moment, you never wanted to die. Sure you didn’t want to live, not the life you were living anyway. But how could you’ve wanted to die, when death is unknown? Saying ‘I really want to die!’ is like saying you really want a food you have never tried nor even seen before, just because you’re unsatisfied with the food you’d been given. The reason people want to ‘die’ is never because they want to die, it’s just because it’s the only escape from the feelings they are immersed in. I could explain for hours, but people in their worst state would still never realize. I didn’t. It wasn’t until I’d taken the last of the pills and an overwhelming feeling of immense loss of control which can hardly be explained suppressed me, that thoughts began racing through my head. You stupid girl, I told myself. Suddenly all the pain I’d experienced in life seemed so minor compared to what I thought was going to be an inevitable death. Death seemed so unappealing. It doesn’t matter if you hate yourself, you can try to change that in life, but in death it’s all said and done. You stupid, stupid girl, I continued to tell myself and the walls began to breath and spiders seemed to appear everywhere. Panic stricken, I tried to walk. I darted about all over the place, barely able to breathe. Tell someone! I hurdled down stairs and with my mouth burning from the pills, managed to explain what I had done...

...The bucket list The Bucket List; what can I say? The Bucket List is a movie starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson about the exploits in life they never got to accomplish and set out to do so after discovering they were going to die. It is an interesting take on death and how to deal with death. It shows many different viewpoints on the subject of death not just from the view of Edward (Nicholson) or Carter (Freeman.) This movie really makes you think about how you live your life. The Bucket List was considered one of the most uplifting movies of the year. These men both view death in different ways. Carter in the beginning accepted death; if he did not accept death yet the movie would have been over fairly quick. You can tell he accepted death because he started writing his bucket list as a metaphorical contract that states he has given his life and is ready to die. However towards the end of the movie it seems Carter has no longer accepted death because he refuses to go back home to his family after starting the list. I think he feels this way because he thinks when he gives up on the list that will signify the end. Edward in the beginning does not accept death he refuses to deal with funeral arrangements and the passing down of his possessions. Towards the end Edward realizes that his life has been fulfilled not from completing the list but truly finding a lifelong friend in Carter. It makes you wonder how different these men’s lives would be if they were not to meet...

...possibly die or leave and have many others die is one of the hardest choices you will experience if you are put in a situations like this. The first two years of the American revolution did not go so well. People were dying and getting sick and you never knew if you were next. There were 12 men ,including yourself, that would be crowded into one hut. I have decided to not re-enlist for the three reasons which are trust, family, and valley forge’s conditions. These reasons are only few of the many that are making me want to leave once the 9 months are over. Washington decided to build valley forge for the soldiers to stay and rest. The village was not big enough to be called a village but Washington still decided to call it valley forge. General Washington also marched his army into the capital. There was a victory at Philadelphia before this all started. Valley forge is a resting camp for the soldiers 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Many things happened before...

...prevent a patient from dying if the patient has a terminal disease; all he/she can do is wait for death to arrive. This waiting time can be very painful for both the patients and the people who surround them. Not practicing euthanasia at the request of the dying person is violating a person’s rights, creating an economic burden, interfering with a doctor’s job, and increasing suffering. First of all, deciding if you want to be alive or not is a personal decision. Neither the doctors nor the government has the power to decide if you should live or not. Since it is not their life and they are not in your situation, they cannot make that kind of decision for you. It might sound like suicide, but again, that is our problem, not theirs. They give us the liberty to decide our job, our family, our religion, and even our sex preference. Why should they not give us the right to decide if we want to live or not? That should be the first right before all the ones I have mentioned. It is not logical that we can choose in all those other decisions if we cannot first choose to live or die. The photo is the "Sleeping Angel" carved from a solid block of marble located at Highgate Cemetery in Islington outside London. The Sleeping Angel is Mary Nichols who died in 1909 of diabetes and heart failure. She was the wife of Arthur Nichols. An internet search for "Sleeping Angel" and "Highgate...

...Now, in retrospect, I wouldn’t change anything for the world, because I know that if I hadn’t struggled all those years, I wouldn’t be able to understand what students are going through when they say, ‘I don’t know why I’m here,’” said Dr. Banerjee-Stevens. When asked how she decided to become a counselor and help students, she quickly responded: it was a total accident. Prior to taking the route towards becoming a counselor, Dr. Banerjee-Stevens found herself working different types of jobs. “I worked as a secretary, I did lots of different jobs and then all of a sudden I found myself working as a research coordinator for a study, working with women with bulimia,” said Dr. Banerjee-Stevens. Part of her job was to call these women and make sure that they were doing well everyday. That was when Dr. Banerjee-Stevens realized that she genuinely enjoyed working with these women. “I had to call them and check in on them every day and as I was doing that I was like, ‘this is kind of awesome, I’m talking to these women and getting to know them and just by talking it seems to be helping’, and then someone told me that it was a job and I was like, ‘really?’” said Dr. Banerjee-Stevens with a...

...This book shows us that there is indeed hope, and that everyone has a purpose in life. There is nothing that can change what will happen in the end. However, a person is left with two options. You can deny and fight it the entire way, or accept it, learn from it, and move forward. A Lesson Before Dying shows what it is like to accept what is given to you and how to make something great out of it. A Lesson Before Dying takes place in a small community, there is a trial for the murder of a white store attendant. The defense is Jefferson, a poorly educated black man. His appointed attorney tries to spare Jefferson’s life from the death penalty. His attorney states, "Gentlemen of the jury, be merciful. For God's sake,...

...the Championships with two gold medals: Ané 400mHurdles & 4x400m Relay and Angus 110mHurdles & 4x100m Relay. After these excellent performances it came as no surprise when it was announced that both Ané and Angus were selected to the ASA Junior Team to compete at the IAAF Junior Championships in Barcelona in July 2012. At the World Junior Championships Ané and Angus struggled and didn’t reach the finals of their individual events. Ané and her 4x400m Relay team finished 9th in the final of the event. Although they didn’t perform as planned at the Championships, I believe they learnt a lot about international competitions and I think it made them enthusiastic about their athletics futures. Tiaan Smit was selected to the ASA Youth Team to compete at the CCA Southern Region Youth Championships in Zimbabwe in May 2012. Tiaan trained hard for the Championships but unfortunately a few days before the event all the hurdles athletes in the South-African team were advised that all the hurdles events had been cancelled due to insufficient entries. 2012 ended with both Tiaan Smit and Ané Fourie ranked on the IAAF top 50 ranking list for the year: Tiaan B.u.18/Youth 4th in the world 110mHurdles Best time 13.61 Ané G.u.20/Junior 25th in the world 400mHurdles Best time 58.65 At the Western Province Primary School Championships in February 2013, athletes from our training group won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 9...

But they don’t allow me because they think I am old. b. What age do you think you will consider yourself as being old? Ans: (She smiled and looked at researcher calmly) I don’t know what age I think I will consider myself old. But when I feel it, I will know. May be I will say when I am 80 years old or more, then I will take myself to be old. Age is in the heart. c. What make(s) you feel you are getting old? Ans: What makes me feel I am getting old? (She paused for a while). I think when I can no longer feel anything or see the need to live again. I think I will say when I can’t do anything for myself, like clean my own back, then, I am really getting old. Until then, I am not that old. d. How do you feel when you are treated as being old? Ans: I don’t like to be treated as being old. I am not an old woman. When these children try to make feel like one, I tell them I am still current. (Touching her hair) She said, I still make my hair. I like to look good. So when I get treated like an old woman, I don’t like it. But they all treat me like one. My children feel that I am old and need to be here, in a nursing home.
