Abstract
Stress is growing problem among adults. I review and summarize the literature on occurrence of stress at different levels and situations that examined the effects of stress on health and characteristic of person with emphasized stress at work. In this research paper, I figure out the variables that differentiate stress effect from person to person. I also try to research out causes of stress and consequence of stress with surprise benefits. At the last this research paper conclude with how to avoid and tolerate stress.

What is stress?
In today’s competitive world, every individual needs to abreast with recent activities in surrounding environment. However, constant flooding of such activities can lead to overload of information on mind. Let’s take example of a manager or a first tier employee in organization. As we know a manager has to deal with his employees as well he has to control the activity with in organizations because he is part of decision making team, but overwhelming such things tether to react over particular event. That’s stress. However, it’s common myth that high level employee suffering more from stress. Stress is a feeling that's created when we react to particular events. It's the sense of preparing ourselves to address a tough billet with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness. According to Angela morrow, “stress is the body's reaction to a change that requires a physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response”. Stressors, the events that provoke stress, cover wide range of situations – everything from outright physical danger to making a class presentation or taking a semester’s worth of toughest subject or convincing your wife/husband for coming late night to home. It can come from plenty of situations and thoughts that might make you palpate frustrated, angry, nervous and/or anxious.

According to Langton, “stress is usually defined in terms of a situation that creates excessive psychological or physiological demands on a person” (Langton, 112). It is important to notice both aspects because situation that’s stressful to a person is might enjoyable or neutral to other person. Biologically it is proved that stress occurs generally in three stages: alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. The alarm stage, which can be further divided into other two stages, one is Shock phase and other is Anti-Shock phase. During Shock phase, the body can indulge changes such as hypervolemia, hypernatremia, the stressor effect. Person might experience some level of shock. When stressor is actualized, the body starts to react and enters into alarm stage. It will lead to activate the nervous system and the fight and flight response. The result is: increase of muscular tonus, increase of blood pressure and increase of glucose in blood. The resistance is the second stage, which occurs if stressor continues, in which “A person feels such symptoms as fatigue, anxiety, and tension due to the body’s attempt to fight the stressor” (Langton, 112). A person will start experiencing a deduction in energy levels. Exhaustion, over tempered, and being forgetful is sign of resistance level. “The exhaustion stage occurs from prolonged and continual exposure to the same stressor” (Langton, 112). When stress continues beyond resistance level person will be now totally tired and drained out of all energy. This stage is responsible for a crumple of body system and physical macrocosm.

Relationship of Stress

Stress has strong relation with habits, anxiety, diseases and situation.

Stress and Habits:

Stress has strong co-relation with eating, drinking, walking habits of the person. Some habits have negative impact on stress and some habits have positive impact on stress. For example, use of energy drink for a spontaneous fillip which contain three time much caffeine than coffee, which might lead to raise of heart beat and sleeping disturbance. However, a person can try a glass of red non-alcoholic wine as an alternative of the energy drink because red wine has heart- protective antioxidants which help to reduce stress by increasing pleasant emotions and decreasing tension. Habit of indulging in classic comfort food like chocolate, chips and ice-cream are the most thirsted food during stress. These foods are linked to weight-gain, heart, and diabetes problem. On other hand, listen to comforting music helps to decrease level of blood pressure and slow the heart rate. Taking a power nap from work and sipping some tea- preferably green help to reduce the level of stress and reduce the anxiety level.

Stress and Diseases

If you are suffering from stress than probably you have significant health problems. Heart diseases could be on the top list of it. Research suggests that type A personality has a more risk if blood pressure and heart problems. Kids of stressed out parents had a substantially higher risk of asthma. Stress has even worse effect on the patient of diabetes. According to griffin,” It increases the likelihood of bad behaviors such as unhealthy eating and excessive drinking; as well stress seems to raise the glucose levels of people with type 2 diabetes directly”. Acceleration of aging could be other serious problem with today’ young generation and this is due to heavy load of stress. Other serious problems like depression and anxiety, headaches, gastrointestinal problems, Alzheimer’s diseases are caused of stress.

Stress and Situations

We have to deal with different incidents that keep our life up and down our lives. However, some of the incidents cannot be avoided and cause us to feel stress. Some of the incidents that cause stress are death of loved one, divorce, moving from a shack to a palace, major illness, and job loss. Job-loss is still major situation among adults which could be cause of stress.

Causes of Stress

A plenty of sources have been investigated, including ”work overload; role conflicts; ineffective, hostile and incompetent bosses; lack of personal fit with a job; lack of recognition; lack of clear job description or chain of command; fear, uncertainty, and doubt about career progress; and prejudice based on age, gender, ethnicity or religion” (Langton,112). Langton also identified variety of changes that add additional stress. These changes are competition and change, technological change, increasingly diverse workforce, downsizing, employee empowerment and team-work, work/home conflict. Financial problems, overload of work relationship difficulties, children and family could be external causes of stress. Lacks of assertiveness, perfectionism, unrealistic expectations, and negative self-talk are the internal sources of stress. “Trying to balance work life and family life is difficult at the best of time, but more employees are finding that their jobs are finding that their jobs are demanding longer hours, either formally or informally” (Langton, 113). For every individual, it is always difficult to manage work and non-work life simultaneously. The situation is even worse for family with children where both parents work and where parents are growing their children alone, have always more stress than normal parents.

Experience of Stress:

People can be deferential according to their mind stability and work-load tolerance. So experience of stress under same situation may vary from person to person. Variables that might affect the experience level of stress for people are views & perception, job experience, social support, belief in locus of control and hostility. Jan Wagner says “Reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it”. Views and perception of reality is different for every individual so reality doesn’t have same effect on every one. ”Experience on the job tends to be negatively related to work stress” (Langton, 114). Social supports from superiors help to plunge down the negative effect of high strain jobs. Langton has also described how personality attributed locus of control regulates the how individuals believe they have control on whatever happen in their life. People with internal locus of control have strong belief that their destinies are under controlled. On the other hand those with external locus of control believe outside forces control their lives.

Consequences of Stress:

The body can not differentiate physical and psychological threats of stress. Langton has classified all symptoms under three categories: Physiological, psychological, and behavioral symptoms. Most survey and research on research indicates that stress can create variation in heartbeat, level of blood pressure and can induce even heart attack as well. That is classical example of physiological symptoms. However Job dissatisfaction is a perfect and most demonstrable example of psychological effect of stress other than tension, anxiety, irritability, boredom, and procrastination. Stress symptoms associate to behavior contain changes in eating habit, increased smoking or consumption of alcohol, rapid speech and sleep disorder. Sometime stress also linked to aggression and violence.

Dr. Jacob, a famous author, says” stress in small doses can improve cognitive function and improve our overall health”. Researches indicate that little stress have significant benefit at workplace. It keeps sense of awake active and directs to work with concentration. Stress also can help to accomplish task effectively and efficiently. Even stress helps to power-up memory capability. Stress also has biological advantages. It helps to increase heartbeat rate and blood pressure to those who have disease of low blood pressure. It helps to prevent colds and flu, to accelerate recovery after surgery, strengthening ties emotional. Short run stress can help to fight skin cancer.

Stress avoidance:

People can avoid stress either by stopping before it starts or by rising stress tolerance. By making some time with friends and family, a person can prevent from stress. Being in a natural routine can also fix your stress. A person can prevent stress by feeding nutritionally his/her brain. However if you look opportunity in challenge then you can avoid stress.
