After having the chance to watch the ESPN 30 for 30 Bigger Stronger Faster, it was an extremely eye opening experience. The documentary took an objective stance on the use of anabolic steroids where the National Institute on Drug Abuse defines anabolic-androgenic steroids as, “a synthetic variant of the male sex hormone testosterone and that “anabolic” refers to muscle-building and “androgenic” refers to increased male sexual characteristics.” The use of anabolic steroids for sports/recreation is illegal and is considered by the United States as a controlled substance, however the use of anabolic steroids for medical use is legal. The ethical question I am asking is, “how can the United States “claim” that the use of anabolic steroids for medical reasons be ethical and can “help” someone when they “claim” that the use of anabolic steroids for sports/recreation to be unethical and will “hurt” someone?” In order to take an objective stance I will use three of the five ethical lenses provided in class. These are some of the questions I feel a lot of people can ask themselves after they have seen Jaws. What does this mean? Can the shark in Jaws represent or symbolize something more than just being a hungry shark? I remember watching Jaws as a kid, as you can imagine I was pretty scared. I think I was eleven at the time, and was living in San Diego. So going to the beach looking for seashells and swimming in the water was a regular thing to me, not after that movie! It wasn't till I was an adult that I truly was able to enjoy or appreciate Jaws as a movie. I love the ocean and have been snorkeling, spearfishing, and even swimming with sharks. And there is always that feeling in the back of your mind that at any moment something is going to sneak up behind you or come up from the dark water below you and attack. So where did that fear come from? Ive never been bitten by a shark so why would I be afraid of them? So what does the shark represent or symbolize, if anything other than a shark? I believe that the shark in jaws symbolizes the shear element of fear. You can see how the director captures this element when in “monster mode” by looking at the fear on each victim's face from the sharks point of view. The ocean is so foreign to us. If your script can present such a story, along with a well thought out main character who the audience can relate to then you will all ready have the jump on most scriptwriters. Remember that once you have sold your script how it is presented and portrayed is all in the hands of the director and the actors. If you want the story in your script to shine then your structure must be solid. Think of the story structure as the framework and foundation of your scipt, from which you can create a wonderful piece of architecture. ...Executive Summary: 3D computer-generated (CG) models changed the way the animation industry worked. The traditional 2D animation used frames that were comprised of hand-drawn cels. These required skills of hundreds of people and it took a lot longer to make. On the other hand, 3D computergenerated required less people, films could be made much faster and at a fraction of competitor’s cost. If there was a change needed to be made to a character, 2D would need to change all its subsequent frames, but 3D had mathematical models to redraw each cel and mimic camera angles. Walt Disney is a company that had mastered the traditional 2D animation. Disney’s Feature Animation unit was known as an open, collaborative environment. Leadership relied on all employees to generate story ideas. “Some of the same features that observers credited for Disney Animations’ success – large staff, large budgets, and lots of time – were blamed for its demise” (pg. 2). In the late 1990s, Disney set up a lab to work on their first 3D CG film but it wasn’t as big of a success as their other movies. Because many staff members needed to be retrained for this new technology, movie releases were pushed back.
