The stay at the hospital was taxing because the IVs caused numerous bathroom breaks and the side effects of the medication caused tremors. Not to mention that the sleeping arrangements were not very comfortable. Even less so with a pregnant belly I presume. While these discomforts lasted the entire stay, when the actual birthing process started things started to get really hairy. Thankfully, my wife is tough. Combined with the medicine, the contractions were more uncomfortable than painful. Added to that was the modesty, or lack thereof. It made things embarrassing for her. The worst part of this entire process, though, is the actual birth. It was done surgically and, in short, my wife almost died on the operating table. Things worked out in the end, though. Major crisis averted. After that, things started getting better. The new baby made all the pains and discomforts disappear, but added stress and more sleepless nights; which, at that point, were overshadowed by the joy and happiness of a newborn. In the end, everything worked out and the both of us came out of the hospital invigorated and ready to start our new life with this new addition. With the rise of factories and big business, populations in small compact areas were exceeding holding capacity and the quality of life was decreasing. Margaret Sanger, born in New York in 1876, knew from an early age the change that she wanted to make in America. Sanger desperately wished to rise in class and her current education level so she attended Claverack College after which she enrolled in a nursing program at White Plains Hospital. She worked as a visiting nurse in New York City in the 1910s until she began to challenge the Comstock Law and write and mail contraceptive information to women. Through creation of different committees, leagues and publications, Sanger was able to slowly push the idea of birth control into the public. In 1914, Margaret Sanger coined the term birth control and then printed it in the Woman Rebel journal. ...Treefrog7 This was a story unlike any of the ones that I have read before. There was no main central theme of heroism, sensuality, or even a twisting plotline as usual. This was just the story of an average couple on an adventure. Following Treefrog7 as she is pregnant, along with her husband Morituri36, was an adventure that I (as the reader) could follow and really experience the story in a “live-action” fashion through the lens of the diary. One part of the story that I enjoyed was the different field entries of the different bugs Treefrog7 came across in her journey. Instead of just embedding the details of the encounter in line with the text, the author takes a break from the text in order to create the feeling of an actual diary/log. The story also is filled with hyperlinks to these entries, which makes it feel more like a journal. The story follows with the very “mortal” Treefrog7 as she is constantly bothered by terrible sleeping conditions, pesky bugs, and eventually has a messy birth scene for her daughter. The entries following her labor are very detailed and descriptive, and allows the reader to relate because it is something we experience in life. Since the end of the Civil War, Flora has noticed several black soldiers in the area in the past few months harassing her family and other upstanding families. Gus forces Flora closer and tries to kiss her. In a panic, Flora slaps him and pushes him away. Flora flees into the woods.
