The conures came from a small area in the Andes mountains and northern Peru. The parrots of Telegraph Hill were imported from South America and Bittner believed that they were shipped to America to be sold as pets.. He noted that some of the parrots had leg band numbers but he was never able to come to a definitive conclusion of where exactly the parrots came from. I believe that Parrots may not belong in an urban environment but I do not think they cause a concerning level of disruption or harm. According to the book and also some information I found on OwlCation.com, the main “harm” that these urban parrots cause is just their noisiness, they are not known to displace native birds species or take food away from native birds. Judy Irving who made a film about Bittner, ended up falling in love with him and they married shortly after. Bittner’s own passion about parrots made other people attracted to his passion and as a result many media outlets began covering Bittner’s story. Admitting he had been a hermit for a while, he enjoyed putting on shows for tourists and other visitors when they came to see the flock. He came to the conclusion that animals have emotions that are very similar to human feelings.. He proposes the idea that animals are afraid of death and injury as we are, and perhaps a reason we treat animals poorly at times is because we don’t understand this. He went on to say that animals have similar relationships as we have with other humans. Due to Bittner’s own research, he came to the conclusion that animals are built up from a bunch of chemicals as humans are, and that fact alone makes us both very similar. Animals were cut from the same cloth of the universe as humans and it is important to understand they deserve to live and be treated as fairly as humans are. From pondering the thought of anthropomorphism, Bittner came to the conclusion that everything is one and he makes this point when discussing how all religions are preaching the same thing.
