...INTERIM REPORT TAX SAVING SCHEMES (ANALYSIS AND COMPARISION) ICFAI BUSINESS SCHOOL HYDERABAD MUTUAL FUNDS AT A GLANCE Mutual Fund is an instrument of investing money. Nowadays, bank rates have fallen down and are generally below the inflation rate. Therefore, keeping large amounts of money in bank is not a wise option, as in real terms the value of money decreases over a period of time. One of the options is to invest the money in stock market. But a common investor is not informed and competent enough to understand the intricacies of stock market. This is where mutual funds come to the rescue. A mutual fund is a group of investors operating through a fund manager to purchase a diverse portfolio of stocks or bonds. Mutual funds are highly cost efficient and very easy to invest in. By pooling money together in a mutual fund, investors can purchase stocks or bonds with much lower trading costs than if they tried to do it on their own. Also, one doesn't have to figure out which stocks or bonds to buy. But the biggest advantage of mutual funds is diversification. Diversification means spreading out money across many different types of investments. When one investment is down another might be up. Diversification of investment holdings reduces the risk tremendously. On the basis of their structure and objective, mutual funds can be classified into following major types: • Closed-end funds • Open-end...

...According to FTSE 100 index, Barclays bank is among the strongest organizations, ranked at the 16th position. From the analysis, it is seen that the performance of this bank is well above average, but its inadequacy is evident among low-income earners. The future success of the company and maintenance of its competitiveness is dependent on increased focus on these areas. The Bargaining Power of Suppliers According to Porter, the power of the suppliers is highest when the cost of supply accounts for a larger proportion of the total organization’s expenditure, the suppliers have no competitors, and when the suppliers are very few. The depositors are the main suppliers of Barclays bank. Deposits from customers account for the largest part of the institution’s working capital. However, the company has global outreach providing it with a huge number of suppliers. In addition, the suppliers still control the institution's interest rates as the world has become more corporate. Therefore, the bargaining power of suppliers is high. The Bargaining Power of the Buyers Customers in the banking sector have more power due to more concentration and availability of knowledge of the market as well as the huge number of alternative financial institutions. The advantage of Barclays bank is founded on the king of products and services it offers. Ratio calculation V. Is the corporation’s stock a good buy or sell? VI. Other information pertinent to the corporation that could affect its future performance and stock price VII. Recommendation regarding the future of the corporation I. Overview of Corporation For our final project I chose to study the automotive company Ford Motor company and to analyze their financials from 2006-2010 which was right before the massive economic recession. Ford was able to stay afloat during these rough years however this economic downturned caused one of largest competitors General Motors to receive billions of dollars in bailout money from the United States government. I chose to study Ford because I actually had started investing in their company in my own starting in 2006 and I wanted to study how Ford’s finances were positioned when I began investing and see if it was a great buy or I should have instead invested at the time in Toyota a large multi-national competitor that is based in Asia and also operate in the United States which I had thought about investing the money in back in 2006 however I choose Ford instead. “Mulally who was named president and CEO of Ford, in 2006, the famous American Ford...

...9-799-019 REV: MAY 16, 2003 CYNTHIA A. MONTGOMERY Vivendi (A): Revitalizing a French Conglomerate After nearly two decades under the leadership of Guy Dejouany, the November 1995 board meeting of Compagnie Générale des Eaux (CGE) marked not only the end of an era, but the transfer of control to a new captain, Jean-Marie Messier. Besides the obvious difference in age between the 76-year-old Dejouany and the 38-year-old Messier, the contrast between the two in terms of leadership style and strategic direction could not have been sharper. In 1976 when Guy Dejouany took control, CGE was primarily a water utility company with some activities in waste treatment. As the 1980s progressed, reacting to what he saw as “unique opportunities,”1 Dejouany used the cash flow from the core utility businesses to expand into a wide range of ventures. By November 1995, revenues were eleven times the 1976 levels and the company had diversified into a wide variety of businesses including real estate, healthcare, and telecommunications. CGE was one of the largest French companies; indeed, it was in the top 100 companies in the world. (See Exhibit 1.) By the mid-1990s, however, CGE had serious financial problems. In 1995 the company experienced a net loss of 3.6 billion French francs (Frf). The company’s real estate investments had collapsed, and debt levels ballooned. The stagnant share price caused investors to question whether the problems were a blip on the radar or reflected...

An attempt has been made to model the principles in a manner consistent with global best practice. Principle 1: Performance Orientation The principal objective of business enterprises is to enhance economic value for all shareholders by making the most efficient use of resources. A company that meets this shareholder value creation objective will have greater internally generated resources, improving its prospects for meeting its environmental, community, and social obligations; pay taxes; reward, train, and retain key staff; and enhance employee satisfaction. A key focus area is a company’s human capital strategy, which is a lead indicator of corporate success. Principle 2: Nomination and Compensation Committees A key success factor is the quality of leadership of an enterprise. A nomination committee with a written mandate and terms of reference...
