...Model: Amazon.com Amazon has been around for years; 15+ in fact. It’s the world’s largest online retailer. Amazon started as just an online book store but grew exponentially into an unstoppable force for ecommerce! Amazon now sells just about anything you can think of and has dominated the market in many areas. Amazon survives because it has a viable business model built around a market-changing customer value proposition. It promises that if you’re not satisfied for any reason you can return the product for a complete refund. With their automated tools they make it fairly easy too. I know because I have used it before. Amazon has a very dynamic business model. They make most of their revenue off product they sell. However they also have a services revenue model through their “Prime” membership which provides use of their Amazon streaming service and free shipping for a yearly fee. They also purchased Audible not too long ago which is a monthly fee to spend credits toward audio books. Amazon operates in a large market space. Not only do they have a very large B2C component they also resell their product via a B2B proponent. Amazon marketplace or seller central as it’s called; allows for companies to sell their product through Amazon for a standard monthly fee and a percentage of the selling price of the product. By doing this Amazon gets a piece of the companies pie and the company in question gets to use the tools and backing of one of the largest ecommerce company...

...a study method? Perhaps you have noticed recently that everyone, especially in the news media, is talking about something called the information revolution. This term refers to some profound changes that have affected most aspects of our lives and that have been caused by computers. In the workplace, information technology has caused many work organizations to completely restructure themselves. Electronic data interchange has helped companies closely link themselves with their customers and their suppliers. Computers have made mass production obsolete by giving manufacturers the ability to customize the product exactly the way the individual customer wants it. (Look for the big auto manufacturers to have Websites soon where you choose nearly every feature on your car, apply for a loan to buy it, and then specify where it will be delivered, all without having to go to the showroom.) Computers have also automated many jobs, including those of many middle managers. The result of this has been fewer levels of management in large organizations and higher productivity in the production facility. For most products, the cost of the goods on store shelves has dropped dramatically over the last ten years. But this explosion of information technology has its challenges in the workplace, too. Because of it the pace of change has increased. Work organizations find that they must continually adapt as technology progresses. And workers find that they must adopt a new way of approaching...

...Characteristics of Business Management The purpose of this paper is to show a comparison of two successful businesses. Borders Books and Amazon.com are two companies that both sold books but used different methods in operating their businesses. Even though they both were successful businesses, both companies had different leadership styles, visions and goals. Out of the two businesses, only one remain successful and present today. In this paper, I will show how both businesses started, how the leaders differ in leadership styles and techniques, and how Amazon continues to be a great success today. Description of the Businesses I will describe each business and how each business started. I will also describe three main challenges each company faced while establishing or running the business. Amazon.com was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos as an online bookstore. As CEO he has built it into the largest retailer on the web, selling everything from groceries to electronics and shoes. Jeff Bezos was working in a quantitive analysis group at an investment firm, when he saw an opportunity to sell books on the internet. In 1994 he went on a cross-country drive from New York to Seattle to start Amazon. He typed his business plan as he went. And he picked up $300,000 dollars from his parents in Fort Worth, Texas. He set up his business in his garage and began selling books via the internet. His business became worth $4.4 billion according to Forbes' latest billionaire...

In research, a body of literature is a collection of published information and data relevant to a research question. The research question. Often referred to as the research problem, the research question provides the context for the research study and reveals what the researcher is trying to answer. The paper must answer clearly, "What is the problem?" and "Why do I care?" At the same time, stating the problem precisely limits the scope of the research project by focusing on certain elements. It lets you show why those variables are important. The statement of the problem is the first part of the paper to be read after the title and abstract. It's like a lead on a newspaper story. It hooks the reader and gives context to what follows. The literature review. A review of the literature is an essential part of your academic research project. ...to Successful Strategy Execution | Book Review | | Introduction: Gary Harpst was one of the founder and CEO of The Lord’s Business Inc.(TLB), aka Solomon Software, very popular software back in the 80's and early 90's when the PC industry was very young. He grew his business from startup to achieve great success, finally selling the company to Great Plains Software (since purchased by Microsoft) for a hefty sum (Bergin Tim, An Interview with GARY HARPST). Gary’s book, “Six Disciplines Execution Revolution: Solving the One Business Problem That Makes Solving All Other Problems Easier” was published in July 2008. In Six Disciplines Execution Revolution, Harpst details the elements of a complete strategy execution program, explains why it could only have happened now, and clarifies why such a program will become a mainstream requirement for successful small and midsized businesses in the future. Summary: According to Harpst, excellence is the enduring pursuit of balanced strategy and execution. Strategy requires choosing what promises to make to all stakeholders and a roadmap for delivering on those promises. Execution requires getting there, while overcoming unending surprises. Excellence is a journey – not a destination. A business excellence model tells organizations as to how they should operate relative to the two dimensions of strategy and execution. (See figure 1, Exhibit 1) Quadrant I: Strong Strategy/Weak Execution: In this quadrant, a business has a strong strategy...

...The story “Bullet in the Brain” by Tobias Wolff narrates the last minutes of Anders’ life. Anders is a scrupulous book critic, who is killed by a bank robber. The character, plot, and symbolism Wolff uses help the reader decipher the theme of the story: The flaws and mistakes of something give it singularity, thus making it beautiful. Anders, the protagonist, is a static character (he doesn’t change) but as the story goes on, the reader’s thoughts on Anders change. At first, Anders is arrogant and sarcastic; it is this attitude the reason why he loses his life. But, as the story goes on, the narrator tells us parts of his life that help the reader develop sympathy for Anders. From the beginning of the story, the reader senses Anders’ bad personality, an example of this is “Anders—a book critic known for the weary savagery with which he dispatched everything he viewed.” (Wolff, pg. 1). This quote provides us with a negative image of Anders; as the story continues, the narrator tells us of events in Anders’ life that have shaped who he is. The reader sees Anders in a different light, helping develop sympathy towards him. The protagonist does not suffer any changes but as we review his life we realize he was not always arrogant and rude, but...

The abundant use of symbolism in Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye is of such significance that it “proclaims itself in the very title of the novel” (Trowbridge par. 1). ...companies, this is often the best way to think about marketing. Things change, people leave, markets evolve, and customers come and go. In many respects, the Marketing Plan is the most important document produced by marketers as it not only helps to justify what has occurred in the past, but is critical for explaining where a company intends to go in the future. The first step is the Situation Analyses. The purpose of the situation analysis is to indicate to a company about the organizational and product position, as well as the overall survival of the business, within the environment. This allows for the evaluation of the company's objectives, strategy and capabilities. These areas indicate to an organization about the strength of the product or whether there are areas for improvement, as well as how well an organization will fit with the external environment. I will take as particular case, one of my company’s products, namely, the book I’ve written “Unique and Different”. Considering the concept of the entire project we are carrying and that is to start making some changes around, to start, step by step, being satisfied by the world we live in, we begun by outlining our own experiences and perceptions in our first book. If we look at the things around us from a reserved point of view, the situation is difficult enough due to the external factors, such as: - Continuous change - people deal every day with novelty and need to keep up with the changes and often forget...

...series ‘An Idiot Abroad’. The book not only re-tells the TV series, but also sports new, unseen parts from the series and offers a fresh, simple perspective on the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’. I think it’s reasonable to say that those who find themselves reading this book will have seen the Sky1 series, ‘An Idiot Abroad’ of which this book accompanies and thus, not much of an introduction to Karl is required. However for the purpose of this review, Karl Pilkington is an English television personality, actor, author and former radio producer. Karl met Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (Whom sent him on his travels) through gaining prominence as the producer of their show on XFM. Karl tends to be the butt of Ricky’s practical jokes. The book begins with an illustrated conversation between Ricky and Steve that was filmed for the TV series and sets up the entire premise of the project. The book comprises of seven chapters, each consisting of one visit to a ‘wonder’. Countries visited in the book are: China, Jordan, India, Egypt, Peru, Brazil and Mexico. The chapters are presented in chronological order which differs from the show, but makes sense from a narrative point of view as you see Karl’s attitude to each trip change. He goes from careful excitement to irritation and exhaustion as he finds himself having to take part in cultural activities, living their ways of life and quickly wanting to go home. I’ve never read any of the other Karl Pilkington books, but after seeing the series...

...CRITICAL REVIEW OF AN ANOREXIA NERVOSA RESEARCH Institution: Name: Tutor: Date: TABLE OF CONTENTS INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW 3 PURPOSE STATEMENT REVIEW 5 RESEARCH METHOD REVIEW 6 RESULTS ANALYSIS 7 DISCUSSION ANALYSIS 8 SUMMARY REVIEW 8 REFERENCE 10 INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW Factoring that AN is fast rising disease that cannot be treated by common medicine, there is a great need for further information on what it entails. According to the research, the project seeks to further understand what fosters the development of Anorexia Nervosa. This disease is a behavioral disease, meaning that it can be treated and stopped and the research is proving that significant steps can be made towards eradication or maybe just simply minimized. It is terribly sad that this is a disease suffered by women and it is proving very hard to deal with due to the exaltation of the human being physical and thus making people with little self esteem grow up knowing that. This research will prove instrumental as it seeks to create an alternative approach to the said disease. The literature review was not very thorough and comprehensive factoring the number books, references made in the entire book. Some may be of the opinion that a lot of literature material was used in the research, but the fact one uses the same types of book and material doesn’t make them to be thorough but rather biased (Halawi, 2005). The researchers and the literature review were thus biased as the books used in...

...1. What does it means to have the mission, “the earth most customer-centric company”? How well is Amazon achieving this mission? The concept of customer-centric and its benefits has been discussed for more than 50 years. Drucker (1954) wrote in his book, The Practise of Management, that “it is the customer who determines what a business is, what it produces, and whether it will prosper.” Levitt (1960) proposed that firms should not focus on selling but rather on fulfilling customer needs. Gavan ( 2012) further elaborate that customer centricity doesn’t mean doing everything customers want. It means focusing on what they value most, in line with overall business strategy and brand promise. For example, the most important thing for a budget airline customer is price. While passengers might like extra leg room, they don’t want it at the expense of low airfares. Danish (2006) summarised the characteristic of an organisation with customer-centric as below:- Basic Philosophy | Serve customers; all decisions start with the customer and opportunities for advantage | Business Relationship | Relationship Oriented | Product Positioning | Serve customers; all decisions start with the customer and opportunities for advantage | Organizational Structure | Customer segment centers, customer relationship managers, customer segment sales team | Organizational Focus | Externally focused, customer relationship development, profitability through customer loyalty; employees are customer...

...This document is under development. Input and suggestions for improvement are welcomed by at this address. This revision: 1997. Your Obligation to the Reader. The author of a book or paper has an obligation to give the reader something beyond what the reader could obtain directly from the source materials. These services to the reader may include: Research and investigate. Seek out obscure and hard-to-find material, and unify it into a clear presentation. Synthesize. Draw together diverse things to show patterns and relations. Organize. Give logical continuity and structure to diverse materials. Analyze. Provide critical analysis in which arguments are examined for evidence, validity, logic, and flaws. Clarify. Make evidence and arguments clearer to the reader. Elucidate difficult material. Examine in a broader context. Show how a specific subject fits into a broader context, relates to another field, or relates to historic precedents. Select and distill. Weed out fluff and irrelevancies to get at the main issues of a complex subject. Adopt a point of view. Show how the preponderance of evidence and reason favors one side in a controversial issue. Research Materials Before sitting down to write you must have ideas, a plan in mind and genuine understanding to communicate. That comes from reading everything you can get your hands on related to your subject. How much? Well, I'd feel a bit insecure writing about anything until I'd digested and understood anywhere...
