Bother Going To College

College can be a dreadful place when you do not know what is in store for you. It is difficult to imagine how it would shape your future when you are always trapped in the past. College can also define the type of person one might become for the rest of their life. If a person does know how college would affect them, they why bother going? Personally, I think people go to college mostly because they want to pursue a career when they graduate. Which for the most part, is a great way to plan out your life, but a lousy way to enrich it. In order for a person to get the full college experience, they have to be willing to take risks and step out out of their comfort zone. For example, in the past, when I was studying for the SAT, I would constantly

What Symbolism Mean To Me

...These symbols mean a lot to me, I say this because there are a lot of things that I do in life as a young woman. These symbols represent how I get through things no matter what. I try my hardest to get through things that bother me or that are hard on me. Some things will bother me but I just have to think about Hope, Love, Faith, and the symbol of my horoscope. These symbols of my life they have to do with me and my family. It is easy on me because I know what they go through just by talking to me. The first symbol is the cross in the middle represents me in church. It represents me in church because I’m really big when it comes to church. I like to sing on the Worship team, do offering, or I’m greeting people. My leaders are great when it comes to church I’m blessed to be a part of Victory Outreach Phoenix. Now that I’m a part of VOPHX and also a leader it makes me feel great because I’ve been changed by god. Sometimes I do the kids check in or I’m teaching a class. Fridays we have bible study at my brother and sister in laws house, and I teach the younger kids there. The kids that I teach there they love to hear about god. I’m glad that I make my parents proud...

...most situation in my life. The first step I take is, analyze the consequences. In this step I start off asking myself, What are you procrastinating that’s actually limiting your life, draining your energy, and keeping you from a 4.0? I soon after answer my own question. For example,  If I procrastinate picking your clothes up off my bedroom floor but it doesn’t bother me, then it’s not really a big deal. However, if imp not getting the grades I want, missing opportunities, or disappointing myself and others, I come to the conclusion that it’s time to seriously change my habits. The second step in the process is, knowing my excuses. I pay close attention to the excuses I make to continue my procrastination. Excuses to me are those little voices inside your head that tell you its okay to put something off.  I’ve learned to recognize these and overcome them. A few examples of the many negative thoughts that run through my head are “I work best under pressure” “I’m too tired” “I’m not in the mood” “I’ll do it tomorrow” “Procrastination is a natural part of college” “I can write this paper in one draft”...

My Experience in a New Country

...and allow me to pursue a degree that would lead to a satisfactory career. As a result, choosing a college was somewhat difficult. I had to choose something that was nearby and affordable, while also offering the degree I wanted and opportunities I needed. Naturally, my choice was MIT, and given the proximity to my house as well as the affordability and the great curriculum, I chose MIT easily. Fortunately, for me I made the right choice, as the professors are very courteous and friendly, and the curriculum is not too difficult. When not going to school I usually spend time at the gym, playing various sports, or relaxing at home with my cat. One of the things I had to leave behind aside from my friends and family when we moved was my pet birds. As a result, my house felt empty and a few years after moving here, we got a cat. His name is Bobby, and although he is sometimes annoying, he brings a very positive energy to my household. The number of things going through my mind on the first day of college were uncountable. I was very worried and scared at the same time. I was afraid my professors were going to be mean and strict, who would give a lot of work and not bother to get to know the students themselves. Even good colleges sometimes have bad professors. Anything is possible. I was also afraid that my financial aid wasn’t going to go through, and work. I was scared that I was going to be all alone with no friends. I have yet to make friends at MIT , but I am trying not to let...

Going Back to School

...Why I decided to go back to school I would honestly have to say that my decision of going back to school has to be the most adult decision I have made. So many pros and cons were involved in this decision. Although going back to school can certainly be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, it is not a decision that I could make selfishly. A solid support structure is one of the keys to seceding in this journey. I needed to know that my fiance was willing and able to support me in the decision I made. I also needed my family’s support to know that the decision I made was the right one. A huge advantage of returning to school at an older age is that I will appreciate learning in a way that was not possible before. This life experience will give me a perspective of what life is really about. I fell like this time around I will enjoy learning and my grades will be reflective of this.   I needed to complete what I set out to do when I was younger. That is why I decided to finish school and actually finish something I have started. My parents also had a big part in my decision. I know that they worked really hard for us to go to school. I know that they will be very proud to see any of us finish school and show for it. Another big denominator in my decision was how now a days you are only worth anything if you have a degree. My decision was made because I want to make something out of myself, and I know that I am capable of doing it. I don’t want to have a regular...

Teachers

...or college, they usually get a new perspective about all kinds of things. It takes years of experience and meeting new people to gain a good judgment on anything. Going through life and learning from it makes people more aware of other people and their personality. Also, when graduating, students will have learned to distinguish between the types of teachers. All teachers can be divided into different types, three of them are the strict type, the easy going type and the lazy type. The first type is the strict teacher. Strict teachers usually have the urge to explain every single inch of the book and “leaving no stone unturned”. The never give grades or extra credits unless they think the student really, truly deserves it. So, for most students, that’s another way of saying there is no extra credit. The tests they make are usually the hardest. Because if they’re explaining the whole book, they might as well put everything in the test! Mostly, they are detested and disliked by students. The second one is the easy going type. When it comes to explaining the lesson, they only explain what they deem important or beneficial to the students. They are usually very flexible when giving grades and extra credits, and might even give grades when a student doesn’t even deserves it. For example, if a student is funny and he makes them laugh, he shall be suffocated with extra credits! The tests are usually easy and very straight forward and without unnecessary complications. Easy going teachers...

...insight on how the whole Nike incident began and how it ended. It made me feel sorry for the Nike Corporation at first but when all the details unfolded I started to look at the situation in a totally different light. Jonah Paretti started off the case by trying to order a pair of customized Nikes that he wanted to order from Nike id. What he wanted on the shoe is the word "sweatshop." Nike ultimately denied his request because it represented inappropriate slang. He replied to the Nike Corporation by saying he wanted to put a picture of the 10 year old Vietnamese girl who makes his shoes on the shoe. Paretti never received a response. Before Nike could blink an eye the situation turned into a public affair that would get many colleges and Universities involved. By now the Nike product has become synonymous with slave wages, forced overtime, and arbitrary abuse. An even celebrity like Kathy Lee Gifford was shocked when she found out her clothing line was participating in sweatshops to produce these clothes. Whether or not these accusations were true the turmoil with Nike and their usage of sweat shops for the production of their shoes had begun. Nike was founded by Philip Knight in1964. By 1980, eight years after the company was founded Nike became the largest athletic shoe company in the world. Nike’s factories are located countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, China, and Thailand were the labor cost were significantly less than those in the United States. Nike was...

Copying Isn't Cool

...the dating point of view has changed. Men are out for either lust or love and usually do not mix them up. When a man is out for lust, all that he really desires from her is sex. He does not take her seriously and does not have intentions of ending up with her. He basically is just in it for fun. When a man is out for love, he will wait much longer because he desires more than just sex. He desires her. Then, one of the things a man prefers is purity. The reason why a man prefers purity is because he does have or could have feelings for her. When a man is in love with a woman and she has never been with another man, it will make him feel good. But when a man is in love with a woman and she has been with other men, it will bother him. And the more men there have been, the more it may bother him and the harder it may be for him to accept. The way to tell if a man has serious intentions is if he waits a long time and gives her a commitment. Purity has been important to men from the beginning of recorded history. Several thousands of years ago, the ancient Greeks encouraged homosexual acts among men so that...

Ethics

...responsibility of the second leading operator in Pakistan and add value to its image, other silly campaigns do the opposite. Its recent TVC about promoting the use of internet, though in a very pathetic way, go against our culture and social values. What an unethical way to promote the usage of internet by going after the college girls, only agenda is to make them friends, do not care about your teacher or principal. The entire TVC focuses on making a friendship with a college girl who is the daughter of college principal. This particular TVC reminds me of any Imran Hashmi’s movies in which he doesn’t bother to make fun of his teachers or the principal of his college and instead keep following the girl even she is the daughter of his principal. Telenor, a company that is usually very responsible in advertisements has apparently crossed the line, by having a go on a TVC, which is morally beyond or social values. To sell its newly launched internet bundles, Telenor decided to show a boy spotting a college girl. He then searches her on Facebook using Telenor’s GPRS. He then sends her message to be connected, and then she turns out to be the daughter of principal of that college – in the end, boy and girl get connected, in ten rupees for a day. What happened to the best friend I had 7 years ago who didn't care about what others think? The girl who didn't even bother to think about petty dramas? Binge Drinking Responsibly

...intention of becoming inebriated, happens almost everywhere, especially in college during early adulthood. Binge drinking is especially popular with male college students in fraternities or at social gatherings, and it has developed into an issue for some college faculty and communities. Drinking and consuming alcohol amongst college students is just about as common as study sessions in the library; however not every college student whom consumes alcohol is binge drinking. Binge drinking among college students has been going on for decades, but only recently has it become a widely discussed issue. Many college students who participate in binge drinking do not know the immediate risks in heavy alcohol consumption, or the adverse long-term effects of intense alcohol abuse. According to Wechsler, “A recent study conducted for the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism estimated that over 1800 college students 18-24 years of age died from alcohol related injuries in the past year”(31). These alcohol related deaths do not necessarily indicate that the person who died had been consuming alcohol or let alone binge drinking; this means that any death where an alcoholic beverage was found could be classified as an alcohol related death. Thus rendering drinking combined with any other activity as the “big problem”, but who is to blame when these accidents or injuries occur? Do we blame the college student involved in the accident that may or may not have consumed alcohol...
