...Cash management is a need common to both large and small businesses alike. In its simplest terms, cash management is the assurance that today's receivables plus today's account balances exceed today's payables. Failure to practice this business management process guarantees bankruptcy. Every large organization has a cash management group, sometimes called the treasury. This group's function includes management of such items as investments and borrowing in addition to the organization's daily cash flow. In small to medium businesses (SMBs), usually the chief financial officer (CFO), president, or owner performs the task of cash management. Regardless of a company's size, the important thing is that cash management is practiced on a regular basis—at least weekly—and with sufficient attention to details. In difficult times, when liquidity is "tight" (at a minimum), it should be performed daily. Crucial to organizations' successful cash management are the deals they make with their financial institutions for short-term placements and for borrowing funds. Unlike in other countries, in the United States, a bank account that is credited with deposits does not begin to earn deposit interest until three business days have passed. Furthermore, an American business account specifically may not be overdrawn, which necessitates cash management to be the most important activity of a business's financial management. For all companies—and in particular, public traded companies—major...

Determine the security risks with respect to phishing, smishing, vishing, cloning, and a lost or stolen smartphone that have been experienced by the financial services industry as a result of mobile banking. Phishig – Is when malware is downloaded on to a device and it attempts to obtain personal information. It lies in wait and gathers information from apps such as a mobile banking app to gain your login and password. If you bank does not have proper security in place this can lead to your account getting hacked and loss of money. Smishing- This is where fraudulent communication occurs in the form of a text message in order to obtain personal information. ...Automating your manual (and paper-centric) processes will revolutionize your business—making it faster, flexible, and more responsive Edited and written by Betsy Fanning and Bryant Duhon Introduction Let’s get this straight from the beginning; using less paper isn’t just about “going green” or saving the rain forest. Using less paper in your business processes will revolutionize your business—making it faster, flexible, and more responsive to the needs of your customers. At least since the Sumerians wrote down transactions on baked clay tablets, documents have been the foundation of business. And while we no longer need to lug around those heavy clay documents (and watch out for water); if you’re using paper to manage your business then you aren’t any more efficient—or faster—than a civilization that existed 4,000 years ago. It doesn’t have to be this way. The technology is available. More importantly, the technology works. We have been scanning documents and moving them around business electronically for over 25 years; and that’s a good start. But, to match the pace of business today; content must be mobilized and harnessed for business use as soon as possible. Advances in scanning speeds, declining prices, and imaging and recognition software have combined to dramatically improve the concept of the digital mailroom—converting those inbound paper documents to digital format to directly feed business process; accounts payable for instance. As effective at the digital mailroom...

...I am an engineer by profession, but an artist by passion. I like to think differently, innovate artistically, beautify processes and improve people’s lives. Show business has always fascinated me, for this very reason, I have been working with a Mumbai based theatre group called “Banjara” as their financial advisor. My primary responsibilities at Banjara included gathering & distributing funds. I have also worked with directors, producers and designers to convey cohesive vision of Banjara’s productions. During my tenure at Banjara, I gained both valuable insight and had hands on experience with the workings of the entertainment industry. I gained sufficient practical experience in stage management, marketing and publicity for theatres, venue design and planning, financing, preproduction and facility management. Simultaneously, I have been working for Polaris Financial Technology Limited as a consultant since July, 2011. My job responsibilities at Polaris included optimizing “Business Process Management” product for Barclays and Llyods Banking Group. Altogether this has been a resourceful experience for me since I multitasked and learned various techniques and technologies used in business process optimization. The Ph.D. Program at MIT Sloan would provide the kind of exposure needed to broaden my thinking and undo my insular prejudices that might be still prevalent in me. In an institution of such confluence of people from every culture, nationality, religion and ideology...

...Once the first Business Process Management (BPM) project is completed, opportunities begin to emerge from all corners of the organization. Executives and Line of Business (LOB) Managers soon appreciate the potential for BPM technology to help them radically improve business performance as they drive the organization to achieve its Key Business Objectives (KBOs). Moreover, the cost equation is attractive - development and maintenance of a typical BPM enabled application is between one and two thirds of a custom development.. With continuous process improvement (CPI) as the core discipline of BPM, the models that drive work through the firm evolve constantly. Indeed, recent studies suggest that firms fine-tune their BPM-based applications at least once a quarter (and sometimes as often as 8 times per year). The point is that there is no such thing as a "finished" process; it takes multiple iterations to produce highly effective solutions - even if business conditions do not change. Every working BPM-based process is just a starting point for the future.. This Document is based on a thematic extraction of the content of the source document. ...Business Process Management: Past, Present, Future Wil M.P. van der Aalst Information technology has changed business processes within and between enterprises. More and more work processes are being conducted under the supervision of information systems that are driven by process models. Examples are workflow management systems such as Staffware, enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP and Baan, but also include many domain specific systems. It is hard to imagine enterprise information systems that are unaware of the processes taking place. Although the topic of business process management using information technology has been addressed by consultants and software developers in depth, a more fundamental approach has been missing. Only since the nineties, researchers started to work on the foundations of business process management systems. As a result, many questions still wait to be answered. Moreover, new developments like Web Services pose new ones. Trends To put workflow management in the proper context, it is interesting to consider ongoing trends. In the sixties information systems were built on top of a small operating system with limited functionality. Since no generic nor domain specific software was available, these systems mainly consisted of tailor-made applications. Since then each year new types of product software are absorbing new functionality. Today's operating systems offer much more functionality than in the sixties. Database management...

St.Preux Date: 02 December 2012 ------------------------------------------------- Course: SBE-430 E-Commerce for Small Business Table of Contents The Evolution of Business Process Since The 1990s 3 Benefits of BPM 3 The Evolution of Business Process Since The 1990s After reading this article, there isn’t any direct suggestion of the evolution business processes from the 1990's. However, it can be said that the article suggests that business thinking and practice has changed tremendously over the last decade or so. Many businesses are using more technological software to improve their business practice. The methods of the past are not as successful in today’s e-business dominated world. Almost every organization is now based on technology. A business therefore needs the appropriate software to make them competitive in today's market, or face extinction. BPM allows companies to be more agile and more efficient. Efficiency is key to keeping customers happy. Furthermore, government regulations are constantly changing. In many organizations this constant change is difficult to grasp and incorporate without the appropriate technology in order to make a business efficient. Benefits of BPM The article addresses many benefits for BPM; some of the benefits are: * BPM helps organizations streamline their processes into...

...Raymond Braselman Cisco Systems Case 1. Cisco’s management was very reluctant to significantly alter the structure of their IT system, even though the system was consistently failing. There were a few reasons for this reluctance. First, Pete Solvik, the CIO of Cisco at the time, was hesitant to even consider an ERP system in the first place, because he believed that each functional silo of Cisco should decide which applications it utilized (while also using common architecture and databases to accommodate the disparate systems, which complicated matters). Then, this attitude became pervasive among other managers, because most were concerned that implementing a large scale ERP system would disrupt business operations too drastically for such an implementation to be practical. 2. Once Cisco’s managers realized that their IT system needed a major overhaul, they became very focused and dedicated. One of the first aspects that led to the implementation’s success was convincing the Board of Directors of the need for an ERP system and to commit to the project, setting a “tone at the top” that established the project as a company-wide priority. This led to Cisco being able to develop an implementation team comprised of experts. From the beginning, Cisco leveraged the experience of others, and eventually prompted KPMG to become involved, not only during the actual implementation, but also throughout the drafting of the RFP and the consideration of different vendors...
