On September 3, 1940, a bomb was mistakenly dropped on the island of Cairnholm. Due to poor navigation technology and an unfortunate storm, a military target was missed, and an orphanage decimated. All but one resident had disappeared presumably dead. A young Ed Portman found his way to the small town on Cairnholm the next day, and left the island for good.
