...Come and experience the amazing wonders of Catalina with me! Catalina Mountain Sea Adventure is based off of a strong Christian base with many workers encouraging you to follow Jesus. Catalina Island is very beautiful with many overlooking spots that are breathtaking. You can have an amazing trip and have fun while learning. In this paper I will tell you three things about the Island accommodations, food, and their activities. The accommodations at the camp will surprise you in many ways. The cabins are very nice inside with a lot of storage space and windows that allow a nice flow of fresh air the whole time. The cabins have very comfortable mattresses that have an overlook of all your bunkmates. The bathrooms are very nice with all the accommodations that you would have at home like toilets and warm water. The showers at the camp are used to preserve water. They made the showers like that so when you put shampoo in your hair and body wash you will save water by not using it. They counselors said that they save about one hundred gallons of water a year. The food at the camp tastes so good it’s like eating at a four star restaurant. When it is time to eat the workers ring a loud bell to signify that it is time to eat.The Island is very strict on your...

...us about at our orientation, where all the kids are tired, cranky, unresponsive, and ready to go home. This was the day where the kids would be especially rowdy and try to push the team leaders away. Even in spite of Jamir’s warning, my two other team leaders and I were still not prepared. Our every waking moment was dedicated to taking care of the kids. We woke up at 6 am to go to a meeting to discuss our responsibilities for the day. After a brief breakfast with the other camp counselors, we divvied up who was going to man each station. We had mountain-boarding, arts and crafts, rock climbing, swimming, going to the lake, and various other activities to attempt to entertain the kids long enough throughout the day to completely tire them out by bed time. After the activities were introduced, it was time to go wake up the children. In the first few days, the kids would be up and full of energy by the time we returned to the humble decrepit teepees. The vigor they displayed was inspiring to us counselors, yet wearisome at the same time. They were already extremely hyper even before they received their morning cup of hot chocolate. We had to feign being as awake and excited as they were because we did not want to disappoint the kids. Every morning they got up and begged us to begin the activities. Even though I, as well as my parents, thought I hadn’t paid very much attention to how my parents raised my sister and I and their mannerisms, I must have learned quite a bit from my...

...Introduction: Community based out of school time (OST) programs play an important role in the development of youth and the success of our communities. Though academics are a pivotal part of success, it is also the leadership and social interactions that can help provide real-world experiences (Nicholson, Collins & Holmer, 2004). This process of understanding the transformations that occur within some organizations is one of critical thinking and discovery. In addition, it provides a deeper perspective of how organizational stakeholders serve as change agents and improve the leadership abilities within the community. The organizational change that was examined over the course of this study was one connected to the request by York County SC community members. They wanted assistance in eradicating the high dropout rate. After reports from the SC Department of Education that the dropout rate in York SC was increasing, United Way of York County began to take a harder look at the educational needs of the local residents. This final paper will examine the dynamics of change to include the content, process and context of that change as well as the community reaction toward that change. Finally, I will share some of the conclusions and recommendations of how this change affects the structural configuration of programs and organizations. Significance of the Problem The United Way of York County, which was established in 2005, was previously viewed as a funding agency that provided...

...It was peaceful; the ball was bouncing back and forth, and the conversation was friendly. Then everything fell apart. The ball got launched halfway across the field as they turned on each other, screaming and yelling. What had begun as a simple game of four-square had decayed into a screaming mess again. Over the summer I volunteered at Friendly House as an assistant counselor for their elementary school age summer camp. Part of my job was to assist with entertaining the kids and mediating disputes. I had expected the latter. I anticipated the mild spat between the kids over who would be able to ride the swing next, which would be solved by a simple talk. What I didn't expect were screaming matches over the simplest matters, like four-square....

...Personal Philosophy Paper Sara Hammel University of Georgia Counseling Theory Theorist who have Influenced Personal Theoretical Orientation As a therapist’s experience base grows, I believe a person’s theoretical orientation will narrow, but will also continue to evolve. The core belief system that a therapist begins with is still there, but the platform that a therapist connects most with eventually becomes a therapist’s model. I am aware that my current orientation is rather eclectic in nature. I find a basic connection with Freud and agree that we do have instincts that are innate to every human (Corey, 2013), in essence we are all animals (Freud, 1961) of sorts. Adler was correct when he expounded on Freud’s work and introduced the idea that we are not solely shaped by our childhood experiences. Frankl, May, and Yalom have led me to the idea that there is no step by step instructional book on how to counsel clients. My experience in the military working with a multitude of different people of various religions, ethnicities, and languages has led to my acknowledgement that we are all different and are motivated and driven by many different things. Each person is different; this is what makes us special. No single solution is perfect for any two people, and there are always different variables involved with each person. Also incorporated into my view of human nature is Perls’s concept that places emphasis on what is being experienced in the here and now as being...

...TermPaperWriter.org Abortion The subject of legal abortion has lead to a nationwide, often emotion-filled, debate that has endured for many years and will for many years to come. People are decidedly in either in the ‘pro-choice’ or ‘pro-life’ camp. There are no compromises to 1 be negotiated: one concerned with the life of a child; the other, the freedom of choice and woman’s health. This paper will first present the ‘right-to-life’ then follow with the ‘prochoice’ argument. The right to choose is the foundation upon which this country was built. Those who are pro-abortion trumpet this slogan while proclaiming a woman’s ‘God given right’ to make her own choices without government interference. This simple ideology is embraced by some but the arguments are flawed when the realities of abortion are examined. Studies have shown that most women are coerced into committing this murderous act of a living human and that there is no such thing as safe abortions as many are led to believe. There is little freedom of choice for women who are experiencing an unwanted pregnancy. The women themselves usually wish to bring their baby to full term. Other powerful influences in her life such as husbands/boyfriends, parents and friends are generally the forces that exact pressures on her to terminate the pregnancy. “Eight out of 10 women surveyed after abortion said they would have given birth if they’d had support and encouragement from family and friends” (Reardon, 2002). It’s the abortion...

...Group proposal project: Support group for alcoholic young adults Ashley Lanier Liberty University Introduction and Rationale Type of group The group is a group for young adults struggling with addictions to alcohol. The location of this group will be near Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. With a major portion of the population being military it is obvious after looking at statistics that individuals who are in the military are at a higher risk to abuse alcohol and the majority of them are young adults. Reason and need for group A report done in January of 2012 found that 43 % of active duty soldiers had a history of binge drinking a month before. Among these soldiers 67 % of them were between 17 and 25 years old (Hlad, 2012). Studies show that soldiers have an increased risk for alcohol abuse because they have been exposed to combat and may have a risk for other mental disorders (Clinton-Sherrod, 2011). This study also found that soldiers are likely to be referred for mental health problems than alcohol; however, the study found it likely that alcohol abuse often resulted from mental disorders (Clinton-Sherrod, 2011). By understanding the risk factors it is understandable why young adults in the camp Lejeune area would need an alcohol support group. Another problem in the military is the risk for people struggling with alcohol problems to be discharged. According to one article, individuals who have an E1-E4 may be allowed to remain in the military after the...

...Theory Paper Holistic, CBT and Spritual Theory Approach Introduction Client’s are expecting that counselors will treat their spiritual concers, as a result many mental health professionals are now considering the healing potential of a holistic view of mind, body, and spirit when it is incorporated into the therapeutic process (Morrison, Clutter, Pritchett & Demmitt, 2009). Learning a clients spiritual history, faith preferences, and commitments is a critical assessment priority (Greggo & Lawrence, 2012). As a counselor I find it very important to focus on the clients behaviors, thoughts and spiritual needs. I would address the clients thoughts and behaviors by using pieces of Adlerian therapy while using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help the client learn new behaviors. I also find it important to address the clients spiriautal needs and how beliefs play a role in their treatment. When working in a secultar setting, I believe it is hard for counselors to know the best way to incorporate a clients spiritual delimas and needs while working in a therapeutic environment. I personally value and prefer this particular cognitive-behavioral orientation because I believe that it helps the client focus on the therapy as a learning process. The client learns new ways to cope with problems more effectively. Cognitive-behavioral theory stresses the role of thinking, deciding, questioning, doing, and re-deciding (put in own words) I chose CBT because it is the...

...Programmatic Assessment: Treatment of Conduct Disorder The author currently works with adolescents in a level 14, locked down group home facility. Her experience has been working with clients with various mental illnesses and the majority of the population display danger to self and danger to others behaviors. Many of her clients display conduct disorders as a result of their severe neglect and abuse they suffered as a child. Her clients who have Conduct Disorders do not respect authority, have little regard for others, and breaks major rules; they also exhibit aggressive behaviors that threaten physical violence, theft, property damage, or attempting to run away. Often times their continued AWOL behaviors and being a flight risk is what gets them place in a level 14 facility. A client with a Conduct Disorder is often times resentful and short-tempered. The basis of Conduct Disorder is a combination of genetic susceptibility and environmental factors. Treatment plans should include behavior therapy with the client, family therapy, if they family is involved and medication support from a psychiatrist. In this paper the author will discuss treatment and intervention strategies to work with people who have this disorder. In addition, the author will describe the theoretical basis for the approaches, present how the counselor would work individually with the client, and discuss outcome research. Current approaches Children who display conduct disorder behaviors should obtain...
