Summary 5 Mark Edmundson is his article “Can Music Save Your Life,” discusses how the effect of music provides constantly revelation of emotions which seems like a basic human right to everyone which we should exercise for our own pleasure. The author refers to different musicians who built their opinion about the melody of songs on one’s life decisions in his text. He also raises the question about what roles does music plays in peoples’ life or why they listen to that kind of music? And does music save our lives? Can music still kick open a door in our mind? Music helps us think about things differently and helps us through difficult times in our lives. It brings drama in our lives and makes students able to prevent boredom in their lives. Therefore, it is compulsory to listen to music which makes you feel gratified and contented inside as well as outside the world regardless of others liking it.
The author experienced that he had heard different songs before but by listening to Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” he was not only enjoying the melodious tones but also got puzzled about a language of it. He says that he could sense the signer been betrayed by someone and that his words were intense and angry which made author listened to it 50 times or so and helped got over it. On the other hand, throughout the author’s life, he was not sure what things he wanted in his life to satisfy –whether it was a desire to have girlfriend, a motivation to be an athlete, or to have smooth relationship with God- which ended up turning his all inner unstable emotions to radio and came back out making sense of melodious songs. Edmundson shifts his tone to sad songs by referring to Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood” which according to him did not exorcize his sorrows in life, but gave his sadness a benign expression by putting in an attractive box. Sad music makes people feel their sorrows from a distance; it gives harmony to feelings. The author says that music is all about theme and variation that brings coherency in life which he did not find in any of Coltrane’s late work. Later on, he explains question: Do we hide our fears under music? And does music save our lives? by saying music does not save lives, but it may help us think about things differently which made us change our life decisions.
At the end, the author talks about Allen Bloom, who believed music as an experience of drugs and to fabricate joy. Author noticed that his students live inside of music but do not talk about it as much as other subjects of life; it brings drama into their stressful and boring routine. The author talks about two different people: Musicians and silent apostles, and suggest that we should not only spend time-consuming music but also act as a creator because everyone has right to sing music –though no one should be compelled to listen to it.

My Favourite Thing

...to write about. That is music. Music can be used to express yourself. In religion are they also using songs to pray. I am not the greatest singer actually I can not sing. I love to listen to music. I love to listen to almost every genre of music but I do not like to listen to classic music because that makes me fall asleep. The reason I love to listen to music is because music can describe what you feel. Just for example if you just broke up with your boyfriend or girlfriend then there are many songs that can describe what you feel and sometimes it just touches your heart. Music can also be a lifesaver in an awkward situation. It can example be if you are driving a car and there is a awkward silence between you and your partner then music can save the awkward silence. Songs can describe what you feel. When you are sad and tired then you can listen to music so it can brighten up your day. You can deliver a message with a song. A song can be as beautiful as a poem. It can tell you a life story just in 3-4 minutes. For every song there is a certain place where you were when you listened to the song and it can bring memories back. Not all of the songs are great today. Some of the songs are so catchy but the lyrics do not make any sense just like ‘’Gangnam Style’’. Not many people know what he sings but they still sing along. Music is universal and that is also one of the reasons why I love music. Some of the reasons why I love music so much are because it can make you happy, sad, dance...

The Formation and Development of Punk Rock

...conveys its own meaning. Punk formed and developed as a reaction against oppressive figures of authority and as a musical and social outlet for teens that strayed away from the mainstream. Punk rock music has an extensive history. “While punk’s anti-authoritarian and rebellious imagery has its antecedents in both the 50s and 60s, the music itself was very much a product of its environment and decade - the 70s” (encyclopedia). The attitude of punk has been around almost twenty years before the music and the music was able to communicate the messages of athese rebellious teenagers. The roots of punk are disputed constantly. Some believe it started in U.K., while others claim it started in New York City. Regardless of where punk started it still has the same foundation anywhere in the world. John Savage brilliantly explains this concept of punk in Pre-Punk Rock: Strakhov 2 In fact, what became known as Punk during 1975 and 1976 had been floating around in various different guises in several cities during the previous few years: New York, Cleveland, Paris, and London to name but four. It was an international sense of boredom with the prevailing culture that saw misfits of all hues go back to maudit, maladjusted noise and try it on for size. Throw it at the wall, fuck you all: life stinks, it's shit, I don't care, oh woah oh. (Savage) People,...

Abortion Essay Thomson Article

...justification for abortion in cases of rape, and when a developing foetus becomes a threat to the mother’s life. The Impermissibility Argument Much of the debate concerning the permissibility of abortion surrounds the notion of ‘personhood’, specifically whether a developing foetus qualifies as such a being. Opponents of abortion expend much energy arguing for the conferring of personhood to the moment of conception, whilst the proponents argue this would be a misclassification. One would not call a pinecone a pine tree; to label a foetus as a person is similarly inappropriate (Thomson: Page 47). Thomson argues this tact distracts from the primary concern of abortion, for even if one grants that a foetus is a person, one’s work is still ahead of them to argue against the permissibility of abortion (Thomson: Page 48). The argument runs as follows: P1: As a person, the foetus has the right to life. P2: As a person, the woman has the right of autonomy concerning her own body. P3: The right to life is more important than the right to autonomy over one’s body. Therefore, C1: Abortion is impermissible as the right to life of the foetus outweigh a woman’s right of autonomy concerning her body. The Sickly Violinist In response to this argument, Thomson developed a thought experiment known as the ‘Sickly Violinist’: You have been kidnapped by a Society of Music Lovers, and upon waking have found yourself to be surgically attached to a...

Human Recharchers Management

...be Blessed by God James 1:12 We all seek a blessed life. We might not use those exact words. In fact, we probably don’t. Today people talk about the “fulfilled life” or the “happy life.” But the meaning is the same. Question 1. What is it that everyone wants out of life? Answer: Happiness Lest we think that answer light or flippant, here is the second question and answer: Q. 2. Where is this happiness to be found? A. In God only. Here is a basic conundrum of life. We all by nature seek happiness. Some people think they find it in the things of this world. Late last night I was flipping through the TV channels when I happened upon a broadcast of Billy Graham preaching in some great crusade a half-century ago. As the camera panned the crowd, you could hear Dr. Graham say, “You will never find peace, you will never find joy, you will never happiness apart from Jesus Christ.” What a claim we make! I heard just that little snippet, but it stuck in my mind. What a claim we Christians make! We not only say that happiness comes through Jesus. We say that the only lasting happiness comes through him. We flatly declare that there is no ultimate peace or joy or fulfillment in sex or money or power or fame or degrees or buildings or gold medals or big estates or anything else that money can buy. Wealth can do many things, but it cannot buy peace of mind. Fame can do many things, but it cannot give us lasting joy. Power can do many things, but it cannot free us from guilt. Wealth...

Features Explained Laptop

...Processor, graphics and memory Processor (CPU) The processor, usually Intel or AMD, is the main brain of your computer and has the biggest effect on how your laptop will run. Most are at least dual-core - two processors on one chip sharing the workload. Some Intel's processors use 'Hyper-threading', boosting the dual core processor to act like a quad-core one. Processor clock speed (in GHz) has some impact on performance - the higher the figure, the faster the computer. If you’re looking for a high-performance laptop, or something that'll last you for a good few years, go for a faster processor. Memory (Ram) Ram (random access memory) is your laptop's short-term memory, storing information while you're using the laptop (the hard drive is used for long-term file storage). The amount of Ram your laptop has determines how many tasks it can accomplish simultaneously. Aim for as much Ram as you can afford – ideally at least 4GB to make it easier to rip music while you're surfing the net, updating your security software, and sending and receiving emails. With some laptops you can add more Ram later, but it’s more complicated than adding Ram to a desktop PC. For serious gaming, you'll need a higher spec laptop. Graphics card Laptops come with either integrated or dedicated graphics. Laptops with integrated graphics use a chunk of the laptop’s memory (Ram). This is fine if you’re just planning to do basic, everyday tasks, but if you want to play games or use video-editing...

The Role Of Violence In Gangster Rap

...Is there more violence in gangster rap than in regular hip hop music? The answer to that is: there is more violence in hip hop music rather than ganster rap. I know it is may seem a little weird, but, it is true, there is more violence in hip music rather than gangsta rap, but, the number of gun violence has doubled from gangster rap from 2000 to 2014 (Taboola, 2015). On top of this, most people would think that hip hop is the culture of nonviolence and just people singing, to have a good time but, this is not the case now these days (Taboola, 2015). “Violence in the hip hop world really needs to cease...it needs to stop to save people from being influenced to be part of a gang or, go and commit crimes of all sort”. It isn’t worth spending...
