Personal and Career Evaluation
Personal evaluations not only help to point out areas of weakness, but also can be a tool to setting goals. I have used the Colorado State Universities (CSU) career center to self-evaluate my personal values and skill sets. This paper will outline those values and skills and areas that improvement is needed. Values
After reviewing the CSU value rating worksheet, I have found a lot of values that I feel are the most important in my career. One of the things that attracted me to healthcare was the variation in day to day work. Having a variety and change in work is very important to me. This change in work helps me to learn new things daily while at the same time keeps me engaged in my work. Working in healthcare has statistically shown a great deal of job security. When I started college I wanted to gain an education and skills that would always be in high demand. Healthcare …show more content…
In my current position I strive to treat patients as I would treat my family. I believe that it is important to always remain ethical in your position. Today’s healthcare demands proficient patient care with quality customer service. One of the most beneficial aspects of healthcare is having the ability to help someone in need every day. Personal Things I Don’t Value
While reviewing the value rating worksheet there was a few areas that I don’t value as much as others. Freedom from pressure and stress is one area I don’t think is possible in healthcare. Personally, pressure and stress pushes me to work harder and focuses my decision making skills to be faster and more organized. When relating to co-workers and staff I don’t value individuals that don’t work hard and contribute their position into projects. It is important in healthcare for the entire staff to have the same work ethic and overall patient goals. Personal Values in Healthcare

Mental Health and Disabilities

...they are dealing with, they also face a deficit in the world around them; a lack of equal opportunity for many when seeking employment. Career counseling for those who have a disability is an essential task that should include the community as well as the client. Zunker (2012) states, “The overarching counseling goal for persons with disabilities is to maximize each individual’s potential for life and work in the 21st century” (p. 268). This is a task that the counselor should undertake with their clients who have added challenges, as well as advocating to the community to assist with acceptance; “Ideally, a cooperative effort between teachers and counselors promotes an effective school program that is supported and recognized by the community” (p. 269), this further supports all continued efforts and opportunities for our clients. Mental Health and Disabilities: “There is a plan and a purpose, a value to every life, no matter what its location, age, gender, or disability” Sharron Angle; American Politician. All individuals with the capabilities and will to work should be offered equal opportunities to do so. Units 4 & 5 Career Guidance Interviews

...Unit 4 and 5 Evaluate the purpose of different types of career guidance interviews Evaluate methodologies to explore the career guidance and development needs of clients Corney and Watts (1998) define information and advice as; ‘providing an immediate response to the needs of clients who present an enquiry or reveal a need that requires more than a straightforward information response. Advice is usually limited to helping with the interpretation of information and with meeting needs already clearly understood by the client…’ Advice and information is therefore concerned with meeting client’s presenting issues relating to information. The OECD (2004:10) definition of guidance is; ‘Career guidance refers to services and activities intended to assist individuals of any age, and at any point of their lives, to make educational, training and occupational choices and to manage their careers’. This reflects the variety of activities that may take place in supporting clients to move forward. Guidance is about helping clients to understand their own needs, set and review career goals, understand any barriers and to produce action plans. Hambly (2008; 16) refers to the iceberg analogy to explain the process of guidance. The top of the iceberg represents the clarifying and meeting of presented needs which is advice and information and the bottom of the iceberg is about exploring additional needs which is guidance. The guidance element may be about exploring high leverage...

Assessment as an Integral Part of Career Counseling

...Assessment for Career Counselor Name: Lecturer: Course Name: Date Assessment for Career Counselor Introduction Career assessment is a process of assessing a person’s interests, skills, personality traits, and values. A person can discover what career suits them best by taking an assessment. If a person’s scores are high in all the areas of assessment, they are assured the job suits them. A career evaluation process involves completing career assessments. These assessments are usually administered by a career counselor. The assessments are not tests since there are no right or wrong answers. The assessment allows a person to see their scores in various careers based on how they answer questions regarding their interests, skills, values and personality traits. Most people use this as a means to make solid career choices (Deborah, 2013). Process of Assessment Standardization is a way to establish uniform procedures to be used in an assessment. Assessment results should be as objective as possible in order to be considered valid and meaningful. Standardized assessment can be ensured by procedures before, during and after testing. (American Speech- Language-Hearing Association, 2015) Before Testing Test developers should provide evidence of what the test measures and the strengths and limitations of the test including the level of precision of test scores. The content and skills that are to be tested are selected and the tests are developed. The students should well prepared...

Student Course Reflection

...would be a good thing to fill those hours between the time my son when to bed and the time I went to bed. Do not get me wrong I always had wanted to go to college but my ex-husband had always told me I did not need to because he was there to provide for our family. Since I have been in school for 9 weeks I see it is so much more than just filling a void, it is so much more that taking up a few hours in the evening. It is a real commitment and well worth it. Completing a degree in higher education opens so many doors for a person. It will allow me to gain the knowledge and skills I need to advance in a career that I will enjoy and be able to grow in over the years. Notice I said career and not job because that is what I will have is a career. Right now without a degree, all I have is a job. There is no stability in a job but there is stability in a career. I think the value of a degree is priceless. I know grade school and high school were mandatory, but college was a choice. It was a choice I made, and when I am finish I get to say “Look at what I have accomplished!” I climbed this mountain, made it over, and I succeeded, and that is worth its weight in gold! That degree has just paved the way to a better future. The assessments in this course showed me what kind of a learner I am (kinesthetic) and then some of our readings supplied tips to help with that certain learning style. Like in Week 3, “Study Strategies by Learning Style said...

Different Stages of Career Development Process Or, Cycles of Career Development Process VI. Career Development I. Career: Meaning & Elements Definition of Career Career is a sequence of attitudes and behaviors associated with the series of job and work-related activities over a person's lifetime. Yet in another way, it may be defined as a succession of related jobs, arranged in hierarchical order, through which a person moves in an organization. As the literal definition of career focuses on an individually perceived sequence, to be more accurate, career may be either individual centered or organization-centered. Therefore, career is often defined separately as external career and internal career. External career refers to the objective categories used by society and organizations to describe the progression of steps through a given occupation, while internal career refers to the set of steps or stages which make up the individual's own concept of career progression within an occupation. For such two different approaches, in organizational context, career can be identified as an integrated pace of vertical and lateral movement in an occupation of an individual over his employment span. Career Research Report

...Preparing For A Career Change Schuylar Robinson, Kerry Wilson, Deborah West, Airyn Vath, Sheila Rone RES/351 January 21, 2012 Richard Dickens Preparing For A Career Change Preparing for a career change can be difficult yet rewarding. A career is the course of a person's life in working to produce an income to make ends meet. A career is also associated with the productive side of life, what a person's goals are and sometimes his or her accomplishments (Cochran. 1994). There are many obstacles that some may consider to be problems when changing careers. Individuals may be looking to change careers from result of too much stress or personality conflicts with their current coworkers or management. Career problems occurs when a current course of action signals a qualitative difference between possible career futures (Cochran). If a person believes to feel threatened by what is happening in the work place and feels that something else should be happening to reach goals or get the job done more efficiently can be considered a problem and the need for a career change. The only way to change one's direction in life is to take that first step into a career change. This means furthering one's education to climb the corporate ladder or accepting a new career that offers more pay, more vacation time, and personal satisfaction of making a difference in the workplace. The purpose of a career change is "to move into a position of greater managerial responsibility and organizational...
