Marie uses avoidance and destructive competition instead of resolving the matter in a more collaborative or accommodating way. While Mike wants to engage in conflict to resolve the matter, Marie wants to protect her son by avoiding it, no matter what the cost to their relationship. Marie’s preference for engaging or avoiding Mike can develop into a rigid style, and when this happens, constructive conflict becomes very difficult according to Wilmot and Hocker. I have learned that for each minute of time spent organizing, I can earn a great deal of time. So, every night, before I go to bed, I write down two lists. One that lists the urgent tasks, that have immediate deadlines, that need to be accomplished the next day, and the other with important tasks that, in the event that I’m super busy, can wait to be accomplished a day or two later. On the urgent task list, I include things such as work deadlines, doctor appointments, workout timings, teacher meetings, sports for kids, and of course, pending college assignments.
