2. With the Daisy Ad of 1964, Johnson was able to effectively evoke strong emotions from his viewers. Due to his daring ad broadcasted against Goldwater, thousands of people responded to the ad just as he had hoped. In the ad, the young girl counts the petals of a daisy. As she counts, she skips numbers, and mixes them up unknowingly. By doing this, the producers maintained a factor of innocence and helplessness in the girl. This is integral to establishing a connection between the viewer and the little girl. They persuade the viewer to adore the girl by appealing to pathos (the appeal to emotions). In addition to this, I also believe that the producers intentionally chose a girl instead of a boy to play the role. I believe this is because
