To know how, you can probably jump to the end of this post. To those who choose not to skip let us discuss a few common types of Logical Reasoning problems. Type 1: Cube problems A cube is given with an edge of unit N. It is painted on all faces. It is cut into smaller cubes of edge of unit n. How many cubes will have x faces painted? In these types of questions, the first thing that we need to figure out is the number of smaller cubes. For this, we look at one particular edge of the big cube and figure out how many smaller cubes can fit into this. It will be N/n. So, the number of smaller cubes will be (N/n)3 A cube has 6 faces and none of the smaller cubes will have all faces painted. As a matter of fact,...

A Case of Murder by Vernon Scannell

...former action, one that might have had another possible outcome. Vernon Scannell deals with these feelings in his poem: A Case of Murder, in which we follow a young child at the age of 9 that is left home alone. His only company down in the basement is the family cat, a gold eyed black cat. The cat continuously irritates him by the buzzing sound that cats make when purring, he has always hated that sound. So he goes on to hit the cat with a stick, the cat hides away and hisses at him, the child joys in the cats pain, and decides to poke it. As a result that cat runs for the door in order escape this sadistic kid, unfortunately the child literally cuts off the cats escape by smashing the door into the feline, killing it. Frighten by his own excessive use of force against this cat makes him realize what just happened, he decides to hide the lifeless furry body within a cupboard. As time goes by he is beginning to hear strange sounds, catlike purring coming from the cardboard. Throughout the whole text, the cat is surrounded with some sort of evil presence, in a way Vernon Scannell makes us feel that the cat is somehow possessed by a demon of some sort, especially when he describes it; you really get the feeling that the cat is watching you. The same goes for the child, when he describes the evil grin: “He followed...

Spaying And Neutering Research Paper

...The Need for Spay and Neuters The choice of spaying or neutering an animal is an important decision all pet owners have to face. While any surgical procedure can have some risks, pet owners should be aware of the overall benefits these procedures can bring. Because so many animals are fertile, cats and dogs all of the time are born unintentionally. Many of these animals end up in shelters or euthanized. However, this is not the only disadvantage of not getting a pet altered. Many animals can eventually develop medical problems because of the hormones produced from their reproductive organs. These simple surgeries do not prevent all medical issues from still occurring, but they do reduce the risk of getting them. Owners who decide to not spay and neuter their pets risk unwanted future health problems, frustrating behavior issues, and even the chance of offspring....

My Companion

...talk to about your problems and who will listen. A companion is someone who doesn't judge you but likes you for you. I had one such companion. It wasn't your usual companion though. She wasn't another person. She was my pet cat, Squeaky. Squeaky had been a part of the family for as long as I could remember. She was with me since I was two and a half years old. At that time in my life, I didn't see Squeaky as anything but another play toy. But as I grew older, I saw that she was much more than a toy. In March of 1991, we moved. The adults in the family were busy packing things up and transporting them to the new house. My grandma was entertaining my sister and me. After the last load was unpacked, Mom realized that Squeaky wasn't at the new house. My cousins jumped in the car and went back to pick up my very frightened cat. Once she was in the new house, she immediately darted upstairs. She found comfort among my belongings. There she stayed until my aunts and uncles left. When she realized it was only my immediate family left, she began to wander about. She made sure all of our stuff had made it safely. She seemed to understand that this was to be our new home and gave her approval. She wasn't your ordinary cat. Of course she looked like any other cat with her long white fur and patches of brown and black spots. But there was more to Squeaky than her appearance. She had a personality that made her seem almost human. If I ever had a problem and needed someone to talk to, Squeaky...

Cat and I

...Cat + 1 Wanda Wulz 1932 1903-1984 Cat + I is a surreal and superimposed self portrait of Wanda Wulz and of a cat. These two photographs come together and create a face of a woman who is half-feline and half-human. As the picture progresses from the right side to the left, the woman acquires more and more feline characteristics such as fur, whiskers, and a cat nose. Wulz’s primary intention was probably to perfectly match up the facial features of the cat and woman to compose a believable, fluid portrait. The emphasis in this photo is on the woman’s face, specifically on her mysterious eyes. My eyes are first drawn to hers, and then travel down the snow-white and thick whiskers. They finally hop from one blotch of black, to the next blotch of white which cover her body. When I spend time looking at this photograph, I notice how her two eyes are completely negative from one another. This photograph is similar to other photos by Wanda Wultz in the fact that this is a molded creation of two of her others photos, one which is a self-portrait and the other a portrait of a cat. The lines of the white whiskers are extremely focused and brought out by the dark background. Wulz used a very shallow depth of field as she, the subject, is more focused than the background. Contrast is strong between the following: the dark background, the white whiskers, the eyes, the different shades of fur and the hair on her head. Cat + 1 made me ponder for awhile. I thought maybe Wulz was trying to show...

Samantha

...wanted to murder me in cold blood. Samantha was my cat, and I was three years old. In the early years, Samantha was a regular cat living the typical suburban cat lifestyle. She slept all day and enjoyed being rubbed on on her belly as she purred so softly. With her golden fur coat, she stood out from all the other neighborhood cats. Every once in a while, a dead bird would find its way to our door step. In a weird way, I always thought the dead animals she would bring us was her way of saying thanks for the love and care we gave her. I was too young at that time to understand that these tiny gifts that she brought to me were foreshadowing what would come later. In my little eyes, Samantha was the best cat and friend that any child could dream of having; but then things started to change. As the days passed and changed, so did Samantha’s characteristics that I loved so dearly. Her personality began to fade away from what I had known it to be. Instead of playing with the other cats in the neighborhood, Samantha began to display aggressive behavior and engage in cat fights. One morning she came home limping with cuts covering her face. I attempted to pet her, but she rejected my efforts with a hiss and a bite. As the tears rolled down my face, I could not figure out the reason she was acting this way. My mother hugged me as I continued to cry, still so confused. The next day I put some cat food in the bowl that I crafted for Sam at school....

Creative Writing: Charlie Is Under The Lake

...I sat up in my bed and swung my legs out from under the covers. I slowly walked across the room and down the stairs. Once I was in the kitchen, I looked out the window of the backdoor. Outside were my cats, Tiger, Chito, Pesto, Georgie, Bea, and Bunny. I noticed that one of my cats, Charlie, wasn’t with them. I thought to myself, ‘Maybe Charlie is under the porch.' It was a reasonable explanation. It often got hot outside and Charlie had particularly long, dark fur and probably wanted some shade. With this thought, I didn’t worry too much about Charlie. I noticed that I was the first one up that day. Both my sisters, Ellen and Molly, were still asleep, as was my mom. My dad had to get up early for work. After I ate a quick breakfast, I went...

Warriors Darkest Hour

...Preface: The Warrior Series: Sad to say, I have read a few of them when I was deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. That’s because it’s what they would send me in care packages along with other goodies I liked. But that was another time and story in my life I care to put behind me. So, it has been expressed to me in the past that the ending to the first series was a little weak and I agree. The whole Tigerstar getting batted aside by some little wiener cat from Twolegplace rather than getting his ASS handed to him by Firestar was kind of lame in their eyes. Neither one liked it when a new “Bad Guy” shows up right at the last second and tries to take the place of a long standing relationship with a hated arch enemy, like you’re supposed to be afraid of this guy all of the sudden. Nope. The original Warriors series, released from 2003 to 2004, consists of six books, Into the Fire: Fire and Ice: Forest of Secrets: Rising Storm: A Dangerous Path and The Darkest Hour. Since The Darkest Hour is the last book I read in Iraq, I had to go to the library on Camp Pendleton to look over the book one more time before I started this. The top section in Italic is straight from the final battle in the 6th book, The Darkest Hour, which is my starting point for what you will read below. Anyway, not a great bit of writing on my part, especially the abrupt ending, but according to both my daughter’s, they thought it was a good attempt & agreed that if the story ended the way I put...

A Cat in the Rain

...“Cat in the Rain” is a short psychological story by Ernest Hemingway. The plot revolves around an American couple on a vacation in Italy; there isn't any preface to the story, we know nothing about the couple’s past. The narration starts straight off when the young woman sees a cat hiding from the rain in the hotel yard. At first sight the setting is ideal: a cozy room on the second floor, a lovely view from the window. However, there is one thing which spoils the whole picture, and that is the rain, which is why the couple stays inside. Rain is also often associated with sadness; to bring home this air of melancholy, parallel constructions are used: "The rain dripped from the palm trees. The water stood in pools on the gravel paths. The sea broke in a long line in the rain and slippedback down the beach to come up and break again in a long line in the rain ". The abundance of water is not accidental either; the rain, the sea, the pool – water symbolizes something inevitable; water is everywhere: it is on the ground, it is pouring from the heavens as though the nature weeps for something. This might also be regarded as a case of parallelism, since as the story progresses we realize that the feelings of the girl are not that positive. Here author also uses alliteration of sounds [r], [l]: "Rain dripped from the palmtrees, the sea broke in a long line in the rain", it brings the rhythm to the description of the weather. The conflict starts to unfold when the girl notices a cat in the rain...

Cat in the Rain by Ernest Hemingway

...Cat in the Rain by Ernest Hemingway Summary “Cat in the Rain” is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. The story takes place in Italy, which we know because some persons in the story speak Italian. The main character’s name remained unknown but in the short story she was called “The American wife”. She lived at a hotel with her husband, George. One day the wife stood at the window looking out and spotted a crouched cat under a dripping table at a café across the square. When she saw the poor cat, she decided to go down and get it. On her way downstairs she met the hotel owner, who stoop up and bowed to her as she passed the office. The wife liked him. She liked every single bit of him. She even liked his old, heavy face and his big hands. When the wife went outside the table was there, washed bright green in the rain, but the cat was gone. She returned back to their hotel room, where George was reading a book. She told him how badly she wanted this cat without knowing why. Afterwards she began criticizing herself and told her husband that she wanted long hair, new clothes, she wanted it to be spring and most importantly she wanted a kitty. Her husband did not seem to take her seriously, as he only told her to shut up and get something to read. Suddenly someone knocked at the door, and the friendly maid held a big tortoiseshell cat pressed tight against her and swung down against her body. She had brought the cat for The American wife. Characterization of The American...
