It was a pleasure getting to know Cesar Segura Gonzalez through the interview. We first met at the Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA) first general meeting a few weeks ago. I found that we had many things in common; he is a first generation college student, with family from Mexico, and graduated from high school with an Associate's degree.
Although he was not admitted the first time he applied to University of Texas at Dallas(UTD), he interviewed again and was accepted. He is also part of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, a highly selective scholarship program. He has been paying for school by working and tutoring students in high school. He has taken multiple officer positions in ALPFA, and has also been part of Sponsor for Educational Opportunity (SEO), the Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), which enhances technical and leadership skills, a NOVA Ambassador, and INROADS. Thanks to these programs, he was able to intern in the Financial Service Industry at JPMorgan and Bank of America, and he currently secured another internship in the Investment Banking group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Cesar chose economics as one of his majors because, even though he wasn’t interested in it at first, a personal experience during a study abroad trip ignited his interest. He went to Mexico with a group of Dreamers to meet with government officials, which helped him realize that if he got involved with economics he could make a difference by investing and providing knowledge to people in need. He also chose a finance major because he has always found this subject fascinating, ever since watching Pursuit of Happiness, he has wanted to travel to N.Y someday and pursue his goals.
