...Education 2013 Virtual teams: opportunities and challenges for e-leaders Snellman Carita Liliana* a Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Business, Leiritie 1, Vantaa 01600, Finland Abstract In the globalized world with crucial technological changes, leaders are facing unforeseen opportunities as well as challenges while striving to reach their objectives. Such changes have led to organizational restructurings and implied rethinking of leadership functions and practices. Changing organizational structures, from traditional hierarchical towards lower and more flexible ones, have made leaders organize work in new ways. Teams account for one new way of organizing work and reaching organizational goals. Likewise, globalized markets have made leaders search for new solutions to meet the needs of customers. In consequence, organizations strive for competitive advantages through downsizing, subcontracting, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and other collaborative and network-based alternatives which are typically facilitated by virtual teams. Virtual teams are geographically and organizationally dispersed teams that function over time zones. Due to such dispersion, physical contact in virtual teams is reduced or lacking altogether which means that collaboration is enabled by IT-solutions such as computerbased communication. This kind of electronically facilitated team work is known to imply opportunities as well as challenges for today’s global e-leaders. Research...

Succession Planning

...Running Head: Developing Leadership Capital Succession Planning: The Critical Challenge for Law Enforcement of Developing Leadership Capital in the 21st Century Kelly Hedum University of Central Florida Abstract Succession planning is a critical leadership tool for ensuring organizational growth and continuity by eliminating substantial gaps in institutional memory, knowledge, and leadership through strategic placement of key personnel. One of the greatest challenges facing many organizations in the 21st century is how to affect a well designed change of leadership while maintaining organizational continuity and meeting or exceeding organizational goals. Current research suggests that many organizations will experience a leadership transition crisis in the absence of the implementation of a well designed, functional succession plan for the future. The purpose of this paper is to examine the leadership concept of succession planning and discuss two theories, trait theory and path-goal theory, and their relationship to the succession planning process. Succession planning is a six step process. Three important dimensions critical to succession planning as a leadership development tool include evaluating the future needs of the organization, the identification and development of leadership talent, and the ability to identify and implement results. Historically, succession planning is not part of an assigned role or task in a police agency and tends to get overlooked...

In this assignment we will be going over four main objectives. The first one being what are some challenges and opportunities for Organizational Behavior. The second point we will discuss will be what are the main components of attitudes and how consistent are they. The fourth will be defining the self-perception theory. Some of the different challenges and opportunities for Organizational Behavior are employees aging, corporate downsizing, temporary working employees, and global competition. Managing workforce diversity is a huge challenge now in this day and age. For managers OB offers insights to improve a manager’s people skills, and helps to see the value of workforce diversity. (Robbins & Judge, 2010) The three main components of attitude are Cognitive, Affective and Behavioral. These components are all very closely related. An example of the Cognitive Component would be my supervisor playing favorites. This would be very unfair. The component Affective example would be a feeling of disliking your supervisor. ...Running head: SEMINAR ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT – UNIT 1 Seminar Alternative Assignment – Unit 1 Kaplan University MT302: Organizational Behavior SEMINAR ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT – UNIT 1 1 What do managers do? “Managers get things done through other people,” (Robbins & Judge, pg. 5). This might seem like an extremely simple definition of a manager’s responsibilities, but it is the truth. There are many methods and ways in which a manager can develop their administrative and people skills. By using systematic study, utilizing the POLC and organizational behavior (OB) models, defining management roles, understanding OB challenges and opportunities, and assessing management skills and managerial activities, a manager can empower and motivate their employees, stimulate innovation, and improve customer service, while creating a healthy work environment.
