Effective principals are change agents. In order to be effective, principals must possess a wide array of skills. One skill a principal must possess is the Change Master. The Change Master is flexible and motivates others to engage in meaningful change. In addition, principals are visionaries guided by a mission. To improve success for teachers and students, the leader must be willing to identify the problem, generate possible solutions, formulate a plan of action, and monitor the effectiveness of the plan. Traits of the Change Master are evident when results are exemplified by the following benchmarks: instigate changes in challenges, procure funds, motivate change in others, create a positive culture, and provide stability to sustain change. …show more content…
Young is far from being new to challenges. In fact, he deals with challenges on a daily basis. These challenges range from lack of parental involvement, lack of community support, uninspired teachers, and lack of resources. Nevertheless, he believes in the staff and the students. When funds are unavailable for school supplies and other resources, he solicits community members, businesses, parents, and organizations to procure resources. He even utilizes his own money to ensure the teachers and students are successful. Instead of feeling defeated by the lack of materials, he finds innovative ways to utilize available resources. An example of Mr. Young’s creativity was the “Kiss the Goat” activity. The students paid seventy-five cents to witness a teacher or administrator who received the most votes to kiss a goat. Of course Mr. Young made sure he received the most votes and kissed the goat. The student body was thrilled. The money collected was used to support students in the 8th grade who would participate in an educational summer program at the University of
